| Presentation | |||||||||||||||||||||
One of the most famous names in racing is back: MANX. This bike was a weapon, and its longevity on the racetrack was exceptional (from 1932 to 1963). Norton had created what was to become a huge chapter in the sport, and a legend in its own right. Introducing the Manx R, the successor to the 1200 V4 SV. Why R? Because there's a new nomenclature for the English brand. This letter is there to identify the sports bike; otherwise, the name refers to the roadster. In short, it's already getting complicated. A slip of styleIt's a stunner! The 1200 Manx R is a complete departure from the SV, as it is from Her Majesty's style. The design is smooth, too smooth. It's as if the pencil had seized upon a Ducati 1098 to modernize and streamline its silhouette. It's impossible to distinguish here the art of British style, ousted by a pencil stroke that's modern and refined to the point of limiting its consistency. It's not ugly, nor repulsive; but you could stick any Chinese or Indian brand logo on it and you wouldn't know the difference. It's almost as if Jaguarboss Rawdon Glover and his woke break-up ideas have given Solihull's design team a few ideas. However, we're grateful to Norton for not giving in to the fin craze. The Manx R refrains from this type of appendage, to maintain fluidity of body and mind. In the same vein, the exhaust is remarkably well integrated underneath the bike, so that the view of the rear wheel is perfectly unobstructed. ![]() Physically, there's plenty of room for controversy and debate. It's also a gain of 21 horsepower since the V4 SV. The technical effort is definitely there. But performance is nothing exceptional. A CBR 1000 RR-R or an S 1000 RR will give you even more grunt with 200 cm3 less. The Manx R develops the same horsepower/liter ratio as a 2004 Yamaha R1. Sleek on the outside, distinguished on the insideHowever, Norton doesn't present its sports bike as a circuit killer (any more than its predecessor, whose virtue was only exercised at the Tourist Trophy). It's more of a road-going hypersport for distinguished riders. Riders who are sensitive to mechanical expression, but also to high-end attributes. That's where the Manx R comes into its own, with carbon sidewalls and front fender, a superb swingarm, Hypure brake calipers, a huge 8-inch color TFT touchscreen, a striking open-work fork crown and suspension of a certain level. Öhlins? No, it doesn't. The Manx R prefers to buy from Marzocchi, who installs an inverted fork and a monoshock with semi-active electronic management. The suspension adapts automatically to the road profile, according to the riding modes available. At the end of these suspensions are BST carbon wheels shod with Pirelli Supercorsa V4 SP - agility and grip are boosted to the max.
As with any high-performance motorcycle, electronics are at every stage. Norton has taken just about everything off the Bosch shelf: IMU inertial unit, traction control, engine brake management, wheeling control, ABS cornering, drift control, anti-stoppie, cruise control, shifter, five Riding Modes, hill-start assist, Bluetooth connectivity, triple-sequence LED lights, keyless start and a locating system. To stop its 204 kilos, the Manx R can count on 330 mm front discs. With Brembo in action, this is about as good as it gets for a production bike. Above that, it's all racing gear. A new challenge for British sportNorton hasn't said all there is to say about this Manx R. It itself still retains some secrets, and has yet to convince an incredulous world that another dimension of the brand has already begun. Except in terms of price, which is sure to be in line with its premium segment. M.B. - Manufacturer's photos |
Norton is making a double impact with its new Manx R. First, it creates a visual stir with its distinctive silhouette, which is sure to spark debate; second, it takes onlookers by surprise with its relatively affordable price tag for a motorcycle of its caliber. Previously, a hypersport from this manufacturer, like the V4 RR, cost over 30,000 euros. Then 50,000 for the SV version (the one that preceded the Manx R). Now, the price sits somewhere between a Japanese and an Italian bike. This leaves room to introduce better-equipped versions. Because the base model might leave you wanting more. The Apex version is the second trim level for this machine, featuring forged aluminum OZ wheels, a weight reduction of 3 kilos, and semi-active suspension. Norton has chosen Marzocchi for its suspension components, featuring a 45 mm inverted fork with DLC-coated tubes and an RSU-type monoshock. Using a set of sensors and potentiometers, the onboard electronics update every 3 milliseconds and continuously adjust the suspension. Compression and rebound are adjusted automatically based on the bike’s response, the road profile, and the selected riding mode; preload remains manual. Never before has a Norton employed this level of technology, though it is now widely used in the realm of sport bikes and large touring machines. Except that the company highlights a more advanced system featuring independent linear potentiometers and separate control of the fork and shock absorber. Pure track riders will prefer a mechanical adjustment system, but the Manx R isn’t designed for pure performance and competition (it’s impossible to compete with its 1200cc engine). It’s a thoroughbred hypersport, built for the joy of riding, with a massive 209 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque, Brembo Hypure brakes on 320 mm discs, Pirelli Supercorsa SP-V4 tires that grip like Velcro, 5 riding modes, a dozen rider aids, a large 8-inch color TFT screen, a single-sided swingarm, and a design aesthetic so refined that it becomes more than just a signature.
The Norton Manx R Apex is here to let you appreciate the intensity of its riding experience and discover its rich philosophy without veering into excess. Because that’s reserved for the Signature version, which is more high-end and borders on snobbery. For the aristocrats, the Solihull brand keeps a dose of prestige in reserve with the First Edition. Norton’s revival of the hypersport bike is making a lasting impression—on people’s minds, in its time, and in their memories. Dubbed the Manx R, it represents a new direction. Highly technical, streamlined, and still powered by a 1200cc V4 engine, it heralds a new era for the Indo-British manufacturer. But the Manx R knows that premium features and exclusivity build a reputation and a customer base. Above the "Apex" and "Signature" variants, here is the "First Edition," the most exclusive of Norton’s machines. A touch of classThis limited edition allows you to choose any color in a Carbon finish and comes with additional features:
A beautiful package that complements the multitude of features found on all other versions, namely Rotobox wheels and carbon fairings, semi-active Marzocchi suspension, Brembo Hypure brakes, an 8-inch color TFT screen, electronics throughout, and a massive 209 hp V4 with 13.3 kgm of torque. The Norton Manx R First Edition is also the lightest in the lineup. Thanks to carbon fiber and machined aluminum parts, along with the Akra’ exhaust, the weight drops by 9 kg, bringing the bike’s total to 201 kg on the scale. M.B - Manufacturer photos |
You don’t buy a Norton like you would just any everyday motorcycle. It’s a little piece of legend that finds its way into your garage (or collection, or even your living room) simply by virtue of its name. Although the British manufacturer’s new generation of bikes no longer quite has the same aura as those from the 2010s, it still embodies a sense of uniqueness and prestige. A Norton is discovered before it reveals itself. Sport is a core value of the brand, which it embodies at the highest level with this“Signature”version of the Manx R — the pinnacle being the“First Edition.” After incorporating the 209-horsepower V4, the die-cast aluminum frame, the single-sided swingarm, and the R’s advanced electronics, and then adopting the Marzocchi semi-active suspension from the Apex version, this more refined model leans toward exclusivity with a series of bold modifications:
It’s worth noting that it’s not just the rider, the engine, and the road. Norton has equipped the Manx R with Cornering ABS, traction control, an Up&Down shifter, Launch Control, active cornering cruise control, anti-wheelie, 5 riding modes (two of which are customizable), a 6-axis IUM inertial measurement unit, rear-wheel drift control, hill-start assist, and a system that suggests the best gear to shift into to get the most out of the engine. Norton offers its Manx R in enough versions to appeal to both casual riders and enthusiasts. This approach is not intended to make the brand more mainstream but to open up a market for new riders. The Signature, meanwhile, revives the high-end spirit of the classic V4 SS models. M.B - Manufacturer photos |
