Motorcycle specifications HondaNC 700 S 2014 Let's be reasonable

the NC 700 S isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The 750 is slowly pushing it out the door, but my 2013 models are still on offer. However, even if the 700 is perfectly suitable for A2 license holders, the only version available this year doesn't have the attractive price tag we saw when this model first came out. The reason: it's equipped with a robotized gearbox and ABS.
in creating the NC 700 S, Honda is offering more than just a motorcycle, but you won't realize it when you see it or try it out. This roadster is the face of the A2 license, and a new definition of the urban utility motorcycle. This is one of the indirect descendants of the CB 500 and NTV 700.
simple, pretty but no more than that, almost serious, the NC 700 is no streetfighter. Its design already expresses its vocation. It's always on the move, never showy, but always ready to go. With this model, Honda returns to a niche that has been neglected by manufacturers: that of the first motorcycle, inexpensive, not too powerful, easy to access, like the CB 500, Kawa ER-5, Suzuki 500 GS and Yam XJ 600. That's not to say it's just a low-end, off-the-shelf machine. Everything about this machine is new, starting with the engine.
Honda has developed an all-new twin-cylinder engine, which also powers the X version (cross, don't think of anything else...) and the Integra scooter. A very modern engine, and one that goes against the grain of the motorcycling genes of yesteryear. Not so long ago, technology was galvanized by the quest for horsepower, for overflowing power per liter, for pulling out your arms and catapulting you to Mars. Forget that with the NC 700 line. These are the forerunners of reasonableness, the children of the crisis, pollution and consumption. Here, twin knows only one word: economy.
First of all, there's no question of overdoing it. There's no hustle and bustle on the way out, with a claimed 35 KW, or 47.5 horsepower. This is exactly the limit imposed by the A2 license. Not only does the NC 700 offer measured power for new riders, it also complies with European regulations. But it's not bland: watts peak at a very reasonable 6,250 rpm, and maximum torque is reached before 5,000 rpm. There's no need to rev the mill to get the most out of it. The 270° timing will add a little character to the whole.
Technically, it has been designed to do its job well, allowing several choices to be made at the same time, always with the aim of avoiding wasted energy. The cylinder head contains just one camshaft, which not only drives the valves but also the water pump. The balancer shaft also has a dual function, dampening vibrations on the one hand, and driving the oil pump on the other. The number of parts is also limited: a single injector, a single outlet at the end of the cylinder head for the exhaust gases, which will only travel about ten centimetres before reaching the catalytic converter. Placed so close to the catalytic converter, it heats up more quickly, making it more efficient.
This block rivals the competition for fuel economy. Honda claims 3.6 liters per 100 km. Incredible! The fuel consumption of a 125. With its 14-liter fuel tank, you're ready for 400 kilometers of riding. But let's put these figures into perspective: they're obtained with the dual-clutch version, and on D mode, as sporty as a Homer Simpson.
Double clutch? You mean that....? Yes, the NC 700 is equipped with a robotized dual-clutch gearbox, as on the VFR 1200 and the Crosstourer. The perfect copilot for cruising around town, with a choice of an all-auto gearbox, featuring a sport or quiet driving mode, and an impulse mode where the rider shifts gears at the flick of a switch. The dual clutch, one controlling even gears and the other odd, enables ultra-fast, super-smooth gear selection.
halfway between utility vehicle and roadster, this machine doesn't need a hypersport chassis. Instead, the manufacturer offers a classic but sufficient steel-tube 'diamond' frame. At the front, a single disc takes care of braking (adequate for performance, but surprising for a machine of this size and displacement), and is backed up by C-ABS - an anti-lock braking system that activates the front brake when the rear is applied.
Importantly, the engine block is tilted forward. Not only does this lower the center of gravity and enhance agility, it also frees up space in the frame. Instead of a fuel tank (the real one is under the seat), there's a storage compartment for a full-face helmet. An ingenious trick, already used on the Aprilia 850 Mana, also equipped with an automatic gearbox.
For the first time, the instrument panel is fully digital, displaying speed, two trips, a clock and, in the form of a bar graph, engine speed and fuel gauge. The bike is also equipped with HISS immobilizer, an engine block, petal brake discs, a low seat height of 790 mm, and a not-so-svelte weight of 227 kilos.
the NC 700 S embodies the ideal of a genre that has all but disappeared: the all-rounder for everyone, especially beginners and urbanites. But don't expect furious acceleration or bleeding arsouilles. Even with the bridle on, only 52 horsepower will be available. Barely a year after its launch, the NC 700 S has seen the emergence of a formidable rival: the CB 500 F. New enemy brothers in the same kingdom.

A few shortcomings: the rear suspension is a little stiff, causing some bouncing on uneven surfaces, and above all, the chromework is of poor quality, but fortunately WD 40 takes care of that. Rating : 4/5 Respond to macchi32
It's got 19000kms on it, and I've added hand protectors, white luminescent rim edging and a higher windscreen with a deflector.
I thought I'd made the right choice, but I'm worried about the clutch... Dear owners, can you confirm or not?
Thanks for your feedback Rating : 3/5 Respond to POCHAGNOL
I've owned an NC 700 S for 6 months. It's a great bike, supple but hard-working when I need it to be. I ride it every day, and I've fitted additional lights (indicators, positions and stops) on the top-case. I'd like to install fog lights. I'd like some advice on the most ingenious and easy-to-fit connection.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

on mine, bought new and 4000km old
the clutch started to feel unpleasant to drive and to handle, and then started to seize slightly...
On closer inspection, I noticed that the cable sheath ran past the stem, and was also held in place by a metal bracket on the frame. As a result, the sheath was at a 90° angle (thanks Honda!)
By passing it in front of the stem (in the extension of other cables), it's a whole new ballgame! day and night!
I had to untwist the sheath a bit (as best I could), a bit of oil and degreaser to relieve it all (it still helps) and voila, I've got a brand-new clutch! ....Used to 80% I'd say....!!!
In fact, the problem with the cable (I think...) "smoked" the clutch, because it prevented the cable from releasing (at times), and so the clutch slipped without you really noticing...(!!)
So the bike runs fine with all that, but I plan to change the clutch and cable very soon!
So for those who have repeated clutch problems, -maybe- this will help.
Best regards

I've just come back from my dealer who charges me 250eur for the 12000km service. He then tells me that I have to change my front tire because of the roundabout effect, and with the brake pads that also had to be changed, the bill exceeds 400eur... Is it just me, or does it say pigeon on my front? Rating : 5/5 Respond to Djidji
- The trunk is very practical, so you always have your rain gear, repair kit and U with you.
- There's plenty of torque: Winding roads are a pleasure to ride, even as a duo.
- It's a pretty quiet bike (too quiet for some, but with an Ixil LX3 the hum is tip-top), and you'll be on good terms with your neighbors.
- The headlight is bright.
- Even with a single disc at the front, the brakes have plenty of bite and are easy to modulate.
I personally had no clutch problems, nor did the previous owner (I bought it at 12,000km, and it now has 17,000).
The only "weak points" for me are :
- The digital rev counter: I much prefer analog rev counters, so it's not a real weak point
- The 6400rpm breakers. But on the other hand, they protect the bike from the red zone, so they're not a real weak point either :D
Ground clearance is rather low, so this bike is clearly not for the hardened sportsman, but you can still take mountain bends without scratching your footbraces!
In short, a perfect bike for the price! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Sabich
i'm reporting problems with the clutch, three clutches worn out at 18,000 km in 1 and a half years of use, i.e. one every 6,000 km, and Honda France has only taken one in warranty, an internal note has been sent to the dealers to warn them of this problem, Rating : 2/5 Respond to rush

The seat height is normally 790mm. I don't know if it's possible to lower this height, but I strongly advise you to go and see another dealer to get his opinion, because I find it very expensive !

I leave the battery in the motorcycle since it's a dry battery. At the 2 terminals I placed a cable with a female plug that can be connected, respecting the polarity, to a battery charge stabilizing charger. -50â'¬ . I leave it plugged in all the time. This way, you'll find your bike fully charged for the start of a new season. My bike is 7 years old with the same battery. Of course, you need electricity in the garage Rating : 3/5 Respond to Saro
i would like to know how to remove the battery from the honda nc700s motorcycle because i can't find it??? knowing that i bought it last september and do i have to remove the battery knowing that i live in the mountains and that it stays in the garage all winter season?? Rating : 5/5 Respond to angie
It's a good idea to at least remove the battery if you're not riding for several months. You'll probably have to give it a quick recharge before setting off again, but this will help you preserve your battery over the long term.
To access the battery, please refer to the technical documentation supplied with the bike.
As I don't own this bike, I won't be able to say much more about it, but perhaps the owners ...

thank you for your advice. I'm convinced now. I rode one with a bulltex saddle. Impressive comfort (a real armchair). A few more sessions of motorcycle school before the licence and let's go to Honda.

you're at 4000 rpm in the red zone 6250 rpm at 5500 rpm you're at 170 so don't worry and be happy. On the other hand, look at my previous comments and you'll see what needs to be done in the future to have a little more comfort in any rainy situation etc... (I do 140 kilometers a day to get to work, so 80 on the highway between 130 and 160 an hour, so I can tell you no worries.) i'm going to get my license soon (I still have to pass the driving test). I stopped by Honda today to see the beast for myself. It looks great. I was able to get on it and start it up. You feel good right away (perfect riding position: neither too high nor too low). Nothing to do with the ER6 from the auto school (too reclined for my taste). In short, I can't wait to get my driving licence, I think I've made my choice. Just one question: for those who drive on the freeway, is it powerful enough, and do I really feel safe? By freeway, I mean 50kms max. (I'm afraid it's a bit light, but that's just an impression, perhaps). Thank you all, and bon route! Rating : 3/5 Respond to franck41
I'm very happy with my purchase, no more pushy bikes.
The only drawback is the seat, which is a pain in the butt after 100 kms. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Julesnc7
Already six months rather urban and extra urban a few passes to his credit and my time I must say that this bike pleases me enormously.
Good handling, precise braking, efficient ABS.
The downside is that the shifter always comes as a surprise, and the noise coming out of the exhaust is a little too muffled.
A motorcycle to recommend to beginners and fifty-something bikers happy to have survived the 100 hp craze.
Safe riding. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Dan
i've been riding it for two days now and it's already: in hand, pleasant to ride, not too heavy 227kg, very economical. I'm planning to fit it with a suitcase but it's not compulsory as there's a boot on top instead of a fuel tank, which is under the seat. So far, I haven't ridden it enough but I'm very happy with it Rating : 5/5 Respond to papa2047
Nice two-wheeler, direct resale : it's a nice piece of dirt from Honda.
Cheap but that explains it ! Rating : 1/5 Respond to Marco50
Only one real trip so far in the mountains, and I had to use the sport mode or, even better, the manual mode, which had a negative impact on fuel consumption (from 2.8l/100km to ..... 3.5l/100km, no kidding!!!)...
I wasn't expecting it, but frankly I'm amazed! Rating : 5/5 Respond to zouzou
we're really happy with it, it's easy to handle, etc.
Rating : 3/5 Respond to caci
All in all, it's an easy, comfortable, very well-balanced bike, with good braking and sufficient thrust, much more enjoyable than an er6, whose chassis is fuzzier, braking not as good, comfort not as good, and above all, whose engine behaves like a 4-cylinder. I like the muffled sound of half a vfr too.
and let's stop saying that it cuts early and that it has a car engine, you really have to be soft in the head or only do freeways and straights to be so out of touch. That's the original definition of a motorcycle: two wheels, one engine, and you ride till you drop on roads that are as unknown and lost as they come.
for the rest of you, take your 4-cylinder and get out of the freeways and cities for a while, it'll do you good (especially the journalists)
Rating : 5/5 Respond to roug
First impression: a great toy, torquey engine, easy handling, super compact, light.
Even if the engine isn't a thunderbolt, it's enough to keep you on the highway, but it's true that the protection isn't top-notch at 120/130.
I'll say that I didn't know it, I won't buy it (I've just bought a VFR), but I love it enough to recommend it to a friend! Rating : 5/5 Respond to nikosvtt
it's really amazing
it's a bike with enough power for those who aren't looking for pole position.
city, road and freeway, there's plenty to enjoy
fYI: thanks to the competitor who criticized me so much without knowing what I was looking for, he made me want to buy it
a motorcycle for a new way of riding, a new generation...
bonne route

very good looks, but engine....le vide astral(worse my xj which is not a war thunderbolt)
i thought I'd at least find the engine of my ex 883R, but not even that; moreover, it's borderline dangerous when overtaking (breaker cut-off). For me, it's best suited to city driving or "little" Sunday rides, otherwise steer clear! Rating : 1/5 Respond to KATA49

A real bike, with enough power not to drag you down the road or overtake.
Super comfortable and really nothing to say about the handling or braking.
Three minor faults:
-Slippery seat
-No gear indicator
-Bubble not high enough (I'm ordering the high bubble tomorrow)
OTHERWISE A PLEASURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the price of the Honda NC700S ABS model is 6090?, I just bought it from the Honda dealer "Jump Motos" in Lucé 28110.
Unless I missed something in the meantime there is a 100? difference.
Compared to my old 600CBR Honda, it sure packs a punch!
But I'm looking for simplicity, and if this model really is a glue, we'll move on to something else.
What I regret about this 700 is the choice of colors (white, gray and black), which is largely inadequate. These are bland, sad tones, lacking bright, striking colors!
In short! Still, I'm glad I got this model, and when you're waiting for a new bike, it's always okay!
See you at .........

My opinion of this bike, after 300 km on the road:
Nice little utility, easy to handle for the beginner that I am. Ergonomics, flexibility and saddle comfort are all there. Engine available at low revs, smooth and linear. No blistering acceleration, no torque to rip your arms off, but it's quick enough to reach forbidden speeds. The 6th gear is very long and obviously more suited to driving on main roads or freeways. Fuel consumption is measured (approx. 3.8l/100Km). Stunning handling in town (just like a bike!). Safe thanks to its ABS C Dual. It rolls around corners with disconcerting ease! I got my license on the ER6N and 1 year on the Varadero 125, tried the VStrom 650 and transalp 700, and I think it handles better than the only 4 models I currently own!
The trunk is undeniably practical, especially in town.
In short, personally, apart from the lack of protection for a rider of my height (1.81m), I find it just right for me. Frankly, I'd advise you to give it a try. after all, 50hp is more than enough to get you around... On an equivalent basis, that would make a 344 hp car for 1.5 T... Everyone knows that small cuckoo clocks are looking for big pistons, but these days, with all the speed cameras lining France's roads... Maybe it's better to have it small after all...
