presentation of the CB 125 R 2021

Make no mistake - the new CB 125 R looks just like the 2018-2020 version. But as with identical twins, the differences are as real as they are hard to discern. For the smallest Neo Sports Café, that means a new engine and new suspension.

This bike is a CB 1000 R in miniature. Same type, same presence, adapted to the size of the Cub Scouts. The little curmudgeon was fed up with his engine, borrowed from the CBR 125 R. For 2021, he wants his own block, possibly more modern, so as to have a more convincing CV. He needs it. The competition is far from gentle.

This mono has twice as many elements in its cylinder head: 4 valves and 2 ACTs, for better breathing. Its internal dimensions are less oversquare (57.3 x 48.4 mm instead of 58 x 47.2 mm), its compression ratio is higher, and the airbox and resonator have been redesigned. As a result, the CB 125 R II's engine is 1.6 horsepower more powerful, for a maximum of 15 hp (within a hair's breadth of the segment). Torque has also improved, with an additional 1.2 Nm delivering a total of 11.6 at 8,000 rpm. With this more peppy mill, the CB is better armed in a category where the offer has become much denser in recent years. Kawa and Suz have returned to this segment after years of abstinence.

With its design clearly setting it apart from the trend, the Honda can now treat curiosity with its pedigree. At less than 130 kilos fully loaded, it is one of the lightest 125s on the market. A Katoche or a Yam is 5 kilos lighter. As for the chassis, the little CB offers a new argument. Its inverted fork is now a 41 mm Showa SFF-BP, with large internal pistons and separate functions - a technology that arrived on sports bikes less than 10 years ago. More efficient and offering greater feel, this is the first time this model has been installed on a 125.

Honda CB 125 R apart from the fork, the CB 125 R has not changed any of its chassis components. Composed of pressed steel tubes and elements for both frame and swingarm, it does the job with satisfaction and action. A 4-piston radial caliper around a 296 mm disc calms the bike's velocity. The rear caliper measures 220 mm and has just one piston. Braking is reinforced by ABS, itself associated with an IMU inertial unit. Its job is to fine-tune braking distribution between front and rear.
The weight is up by 4 kilos; is this due to the new engine or to Euro5 adaptations?
The level of quality is more refined, with a gold-bronze finish on the forks, rims and crankcases.

Beneath this facade, neither neo nor retro but a little of both, the bike benefits from technological inlays that are sure to hit the mark. Digital instrumentation and a bulging headlight enhanced by rows of LEDs. It's still all there, but the next generation will have to switch to a color TFT display to avoid being left behind in the high-tech stakes.
Frugal, the roadster claims to make do with just over 2 liters to cover 100 kilometers. With 10 liters in the belly, a full tank should take you well over 400 km (according to the figures provided). The reality will be a little less. But the range will still be excellent.

Honda continues to keep its tough little roadster in the 125 class. The CBF lacks the necessary punch; the CB 125 R is there to crack shoulders. The battle goes on, with each manufacturer having its own slingshot.

French Nathan Model 2022
Hi, this motorcycle is really awesome—I’m having a blast. I have the 2022 model, but even so, when I’m riding, I rarely manage to go over 110 km/h. Also, I sometimes feel like it uses a lot of fuel. When I’m riding, I’m in 5th gear at 110 km/h and I can see that it hasn’t hit the rev limiter yet. Plus, I always have 6th gear left to shift into, but if I shift into it, I lose top speed. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this normal? Thanks and have a great day. Rating : 5/5

Bjr, je me présente Philippe 57, j'ai acheté une cb125r neo cafe neuve DE 2023 15 CV, suite à la reprise de mon scooter 125 Honda. Today after 2 years 8000 km ... I ride almost every day to work ... small weaknesses on this bike the 2 keys of the mini digital dashboard ... Not practical ... the kickstand a little short and sometimes you lose the gears on the dashboard. Strong point for travel, light handling, fuel consumption very correct ... Rating : 4/5

I bought this bike 2 years ago, in January 2022, and at the time it had 4200km. Today it totals 34333km, I ride with my son who has the same bike and almost as many km, I'm very happy with it and I think I could do at least double that. Rating : 5/5

Sure, it's a 125, but you wouldn't know it from the way it looks... Good acceleration, great handling and roadster looks! Originally purchased with a view to "quickly" passing my motorcycle driving test, I found myself going on a road trip this summer (~2500km) with this reliable, easy-to-maintain bike. Yes, you have to avoid freeways, but in and around town, it's perfect! Not too noisy, but it avoids the "toy" noise of some 125s. Starts to lack pep around 90km/h, but this bike has to have a flaw! Hello, sorry to bother you with a question that may seem strange, but we bought this model for our son and we have a model problem with the insurer. Could you please tell me which model is stipulated on your registration form because I'm afraid there's a mistake for us.... It says CBF125NAP-ED ROUGE for a CBR125.... I hope the dealer didn't do anything wrong or that we've been ripped off....well, I'm thinking more of a document error, as we do have the cbr125 model! maybe the young salesman got the serial number wrong....the insurer on the phone with the registration number and commercial name gives us a CBF125NA..... I'm afraid we've been fooled... thank you in advance for your help Rating : 4/5
French Did 35430
Hello, I'm on my 4th 125. The first two were used, Yamaha SR and Virago, followed by a small CBF bought new and finally the CBR I fell in love with. I'm just finishing the break-in and am surprised by the popping noises when the engine is under load. Starting in 1st gear, I don't need to pull hard on it before I hear these popping noises, which remind me of the piston vibrating in the liner. At steady speed (5 to 6000 rpm), the same refrain... I mentioned it to the dealer, who told me that there was a resonance in the cylinder head... The bike is obviously under warranty, and I'm going back to the garage so that they can solve these "popping noises" for me.
If anyone has an explanation for these noises, which I've never experienced on any of the other bikes I've ridden (over 50,000 km with my SR), thank you. I'm happy with this bike in terms of handling and so on, and I hope Honda will take my request seriously. To answer Finette's question, the CBF is the right name. I had the same surprise when I received my registration, so don't worry about it.

Hello, in reply to Finette, CBF125NA is the name of our CB125R NEO SPORTS CAFE. Be careful not to confuse the CB125R with the CBR125. 1 letter out of place and we've got another model. Rating : 4/5

Opinion after one year and 9,000 km. I ride it all year round for work (city, 4-lane, departmental), in all weathers. I'm 1.87 m tall and weigh 74 kg. High-quality motorcycle, to be compared with its very high price: - Very effective braking, with ABS that's a bit intrusive, but indispensable for urban use on wet roads - Excellent handling, easily avoiding last-second uncivilized p*/@%^ obstacles - Reliable, long-lasting tires.
- A fairly high driving position, allowing good control of traffic and good anticipation (much more so than in BARs) - Comfortable, 200 km outing on it with no pain anywhere - Garage maintenance every 6,000 km, inexpensive - Average fuel consumption of 2.6 L/100 for me.
- Of course, I'm thinking of the A2 very, very soon, but this CB125R is really pleasing and safe, and I see it as my "accompanied driving" period at 15 hp before the 47 hp to come.

CB125R 2021 bought used in April 2023, used daily for 40 km of city riding, a real pleasure. Compared to a 2008 CBF125 that I kept for a few years, the feeling of safety is much greater, stiffer, better braking, more powerful, better suspension, better comfort. The frame, braking and suspension could easily cope with a more powerful engine, which is very reassuring. I've had medium-displacement bikes in the past (kawa zr7, suzuki gsx750) but for my daily commute, mainly at 50 km/h (sometimes 70, sometimes 30), the 125 seemed more appropriate, less frustrating and more economical. I'm delighted. The purchase price is undoubtedly too high for a 125, but I don't feel I've got a 125 with this bike.

My fuel consumption is under 2.5 l/100.

I sometimes take the freeway home on a whim; for short distances it's perfectly feasible, but a bit tiring because of the noise and vibrations.

I also use it to do "gymkhana" type exercises in a parking lot, to get the most out of it. The ABS works really well, you can brake forwards and backwards without a second thought, and the bike stops in a really short distance (compared with other bikes I've known, in any case). With a little practice, you can further shorten the braking distance by braking optimally to delay ABS activation.

Hello I'm still breaking in my 125 CB. When I chose it, it was for motorcycling pleasure, its design, and a top speed of 120km/h. Is this correct? because people are starting to tell me 100 km/h max. Otherwise very pleasant. Rating : 4/5

I laugh at the guys who gawk at this bike's low fuel consumption. 43 years ago, my 125 Twin was just as fuel-efficient. I bought it new for 6500 Fr and with its 16.5 bhp I regularly managed to hit 145 on the odometer. I suppose that must have corresponded to the 130 lap times claimed by the manufacturer. There's not a single person here who objects to the price of this 125, however modern it may be. Almost the same price as my first Z 1300. No kidding... Rating : 1/5
French Pierrot 39 Model 2022
Bought at the end of October 2021 in Besançon from the Pro Bike 25 dealership (which I recommend) and 1000 km covered in three months. This little bike is a real pleasure to ride, very easy to handle, economical at around 3 liters/100, but probably less so in quiet conditions. Although I've just completed the recommended 1,000 km of running-in, the engine shows good will at low revs, and very decent power and responsiveness at higher revs for a 125cm3 bike. The gear indicator is very pleasant, and the clutch is very progressive in 1st gear. The only small regret would be the absence of an engine temperature gauge, which would be useful for better use during the first few kilometers. Otherwise, I highly recommend this little jewel, as much for its looks as for its great qualities. Rating : 5/5

French Méduli Model 2022
Ordered early August 2021, received early December. It's looonnnggg but once in hand it's so booonnn! :)

It's my only vehicle for getting to work. 70KM round trip in all weathers (2600km on the odometer on January 23). It's all departmental road and a little bit of communal road, all through the Landes de Gascognes nature reserve. I had a SW-Motech crash-bar and SW-Motech fog lamps added, to get a better view of the wild animals that abound in the area, and a givi windscreen to reduce my exposure to the wind. Many people turn around when they see it go by, and my friends and family compliment it (matte black color) and find it hard to believe that it's a 125

Riding it is pure pleasure. Very maneuverable, economical (3L/100 at 90/100km/h), responsive with good acceleration even at low revs, a 6th gear that's really usable, an engine brake that saves on brake pads, and a riding comfort that makes me feel really good. I'd taken it on with the idea of taking the A2 in a year's time, but for the moment I'm giving it up, because this bike fits me like a glove

If you're not sure, give it a try and get ready to crack!

i'm not giving it the last star! I'd like to see what this new model looks like in real life and on video
i'm waiting to see a real test bench video and see what it's like with the 15 hp 2021 model (new engine with 2 more valves!)
i think it'll be more powerful, plus a gear ratio correction, which should make it a good 125 cm3, in any case better than the old version
More torque too!
But it's all on paper. I'm waiting for a real video test of the old one, and the 2021
would be ideal
2.5 l or 400 km with its 10.1 Litre not bad! (data for 450 km to be seen? )

I hope that the new125cm3 honda cbr displays the klm/hour value at the GPS value, which wasn't the case with the old one, because the higher the speed, the more obvious the difference was, up to 10 klm/hour compared with the GPS value, which isn't very reassuring when you're overtaking.
