presentation of the 1133 Scout 2021
At Indian, every year brings a new batch of colors, and regularly improvements. Not in 2021, but previous years were richer. In 2020, the Scout received a new ignition key, Sport seat, passenger footrests and improved braking: floating discs, new master cylinder and new calipers. 2019 also saw the addition of a USB socket, grafted near the speedometer. Nowadays, this is virtually indispensable for powering GPS, smartphones and other electronic gadgets.
In 2018, the Scout invited itself to share. Footpegs and a passenger seat were fitted as standard. A new cartridge fork and Pirelli tires were fitted as part of the improved chassis, continuing the positive trend from the 2017 upgrade, when this Indian already benefited from a number of little touches that everyone will appreciate on a daily basis: revised shocks, better-integrated wiring for improved aesthetics, improved steering lock, a set of covers for the swingarm axle and revised exhausts for a better riding position. Small bonuses for this successful model and heir to Indian's history. The Scout has also been available in an A2 version since 2017; but for this, the engine had to be toned down, losing 6 horsepower. Penalizing? You won't feel the difference.
As the twentieth century began to take hold, the first of history's terrible wars was being fought, and the motorcycle industry was pulsating around the world, Indian decided to enter the medium-displacement market with what was to become a huge success: the Scout. Almost a century later, this model is back on the market. With conviction, style and modernism. The Indian 1133 Scout may be the youngest model in the range, but it is nonetheless the lightest, the most powerful, and the most surprising.
In terms of power? Let's see... The Scout makes 94 horsepower, a good ladleful more than the manufacturer's other models. And yet, its twin discharges only 1133 cm3, and is likely to pale in comparison with the big 1811 of the Chief and Roadmaster. Forget the numbers and take a look at this block. A ribbed, taut, modern piece, rather out of place for a nostalgic custom. V-twin of course, looking like it was cut by Laser and not in a Kansas foundry; no fins; a big radiator making no effort to hide itself. There's no need to speculate: this new engine runs on water to cool itself. A first for Indian, and yet another culture shock. 15 years after Harley-Davidson, Indian is also introducing liquid cooling for a production model. And 40 years after the Japanese adopted it...
The brand is thus seeking to appeal to a new segment of motorcyclists, with this machine halfway between the power-cruiser and the custom classic. The engine delivers 98 Nm of torque at 5,900 rpm. Driven by 60 mm fuel injection, it distributes watts through a 6-speed gearbox. Also (above all?), this block transpires a concern for finish: looke at the cavities dug into the cylinder heads, like anfractuosities in a cyborg's skull; pay attention to the carved initials; grasp the protrusions of a delicate milling cutter on the metal. The beast wants to be beautiful.
Modern engine, similar chassis. The Scout is built on an aluminum frame adorned with a classic 41 mm fork and a pair of side shocks. With 130- and 150-mm tires, the tire set-up favors a certain liveliness rather than the muscular style of certain products. Braking feels light, with a 298 mm front disc clamped by a 2-piston caliper. Same diameter at the rear, but with a single-piston caliper. The brand doesn't panic, pointing out that the Scout, at just 244 kilos dry weight, is a lightweight. Well... Well, many American machines before it have done the same, and others will too. And then there's the ABS. It won't increase power, but it will prevent you from having a spill.
The wheelbase is long (1562 mm), the seat low (643 mm), the styling extended, and cornering allowed up to 31°. The pleasure it provides seems to be shared solely with the rider. The Scout is originally designed for one rider only, with a seat in aged Havana leather.
With its return, the Indian Scout slips into its CV the memory of its performances: the conquest of the "Wall of Death", a production record in 1920, speed records with the famous Burt Monro in 1957, 1962 and 1967. The 1133 Scout is also a good pebble thrown into the competition's pond. The charm of originality and the pride of riding an Indian will more than tip the scales.

But 12.... never. Rating : 5/5 Respond to matieu
The only downside is that at around 110 km/h, you get the feeling that your tires are deflated, and that you're wiggling a bit. Accustomed to the BM's absolute rail, this is surprising at first... Maybe a modification to the fork cartridges..
I've got a feeling I'm going to rack up a lot of miles on this machine. On the other hand, 230 km on a tank, I don't know how to do it, I don't even reach 200 before pushing! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Frapec

given the Scout's fuel consumption, you reach an average of 215 km before the warning light comes on, so it's not bad at all, or your neighborhood is very large ;) my last trip with this bike was 1200 km of mountain riding over 2 days, but yes, you can ride this thing... Comfort. Grip. It's a machine I'm going to keep for a long time, after a good twenty years of riding and 30 years of driving. I don't have a car.
To try it is to adopt it. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
I saw on the site the reproach of only one disc. Is it possible to add a second disc and also a passenger saddle as an option?
Best regards Rating : 3/5 Respond to Guille

Yes, there is an optional passenger seat in brown or black Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
If your bike isn't equipped with one, you'll need to add the price of the passenger footrests, which are 199 euros a pair Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
According to the estimates we have, the range is around 200 kms, but it can change significantly (depending on the way you drive) in the right or wrong direction. Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
for the lucky ones who ride it, I hope to see some on our roads Rating : 4/5 Respond to Jaythefrench
The engine isn't very smooth, but the gearbox is docile.
The only problem is that delivery is painfully slow...April, May...?
