in the early '30s, a group of engineers decided to create a motorcycle in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). The facilities were set up in a metallurgical plant, where the L-300 was born. Ahead of the Ural, Dniepr and Izh, the L-300 was the first mass-produced Russian motorcycle. It was powered by a 293 cm3, 2-stroke, single-cylinder engine. Production figures are uncertain. Some sources put the figure at around 1,500 models, while others put it closer to 20,000. Today, very few examples of the Krasny Oktyabr (translation: Red October) remain.
