To illustrate: AUDI 1100 Z02
In the mid-70s, Audi created a fairly accomplished motorcycle prototype. To be more precise, a small group of engineers and mechanics worked on the project discreetly. The motorcycle used a 1093 cm3 4-cylinder engine borrowed from the Audi 50 (a car the size of a VW Polo).
With 70 horsepower and a very Germanic look, the Z02 could claim to be a match for the BMWs of the day. In fact, it was built on an R 90 S chassis, to which elements from various players in the segment were added (Norton gearbox, Yamaha footbraces, Ronal rims, etc.).
Perfectly roadworthy and having completed thousands of test kilometers, the Z02 had the misfortune not to please management, and the project was abandoned.
