at the end of 2007, Subaru was rumored to be planning a medium-displacement motorcycle. The Japanese manufacturer, famous for its wheel-drive cars and its flagship Impreza rally beast, was said to have a sporty single-cylinder 500 in the pipeline. Named HS 500 sa, the bike featured a 50 hp block, an aluminum frame, a beefy swingarm, and a manufacturing process in China to keep costs down. This Subaru doesn't seem to have gone beyond the rumor stage.
this foray into the world of two-wheelers would not really have been unprecedented, but rather a return to basics for Subaru. Its parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, was formerly called Fuji Sangyo and produced a small two-wheeler after the Second World War. This was a scooter called the Rabbit, which was produced for almost 20 years.
