presentation of the SV 650 Café Racer 2017
It's no longer enough to have a good, fun, versatile bike with an exciting engine. Personality and/or a certain level of preparation are the order of the day. Ducati demonstrates this very well with its Scrambler, which is available in a variety of flavors. The SV is no different. Eager to give its career a boost, Suzuki has launched a number of special series, in line with the trend. After the Scrambler edition, which has only the name and not really the function, the roadster is now a Café Racer. An urban racing accent that's been heard everywhere for some time now. But how does Suzette fare in the exercise?!
last year, a customization contest crowned the Kikishop workshop for its Café Racer interpretation of the SV. We thought Suz would use it as inspiration for a new vintage SV-S, with its old-fashioned fork head, single-seater seat and matching pot...
Lost! The manufacturer's Café Racer series is far less striking than the Kikishop creation. And it lacks any real impetuosity. Admittedly, we find some of the codes of the genre, with half-quidons and footrest plates set back, resulting in a (slightly) sportier riding position, as well as an exhaust that frees up the musicality of the twin. But... the spirit, the Saturday-night thrill-seeking, the desire to do battle, isn't there. The eye interprets it more as a tuning prepa than a true CR, where spoked rims, low-positioned bracelets and a sporty rear end would be in order... In short, can this accessorized SV justify the title?
the 100 purchasers will be the only real judges, because only that many SV 650 Café Racer models will be produced. Each model is equipped with a whole series of parts from Gilles Tooling, including handlebar halves, remote controls, driver and passenger footrests, frame-mounted protective pads, radiator scoops, steering nut and handlebar ends. This SV also nods to racing with its number plates. As for the special dual-outlet exhaust system, which looks like it's taken from a NineT, it would look great on a Scrambler; we're more dubious about its presence here.
This SV limited series is offered at a revised price. At 7999 euros, it costs 1300 euros more than the standard SV. The price of style. Dynamics are beyond these considerations, with a still pleasing 76-hp twin, a neutral, simple, efficient and proven chassis, and the fugacity inherent to miss Suzette.
