before buying a bike, you try out several... and that's what led me to test the best-selling model in France. The Yam's physique is plain and unassuming (that's going to change with the 2002 vintage). However, reading the specification sheet, it seems to have some serious assets. Let's take a ride to find out. Contact: the 4-cylinder engine, derived from the Thundercat, emits a muffled, pleasant sound (if you like Ducat-style noise, you'll get the impression that the engine is a castrato). The riding position is excellent, but the oversquare fuel tank is a bit hard on the knees. Steering is smooth, as is the engine, but it's hollow at low revs (4 legs 600 cm3, that's normal!). Very comfortable in town, we'll see what happens as soon as the road clears. Here, a good straight line... GAS! Its (slightly muted) sporty heart awakens, and the brave city car turns into a little bomb that sends you to 200 in 2, 3 moves. It climbs high in the revs and its high-pitched scream is exciting... The braking system is derived from the R1, and has nothing but praise. User-friendly, playful and powerful, the Fazer is half-angel, half-demon, and all-purpose!

The only noticeable and systematically pointed out faults are the lighting and the slippery seat, and the width, which means that even though it's a little lower than average, my "legs" are further apart, so I don't see any advantage in it. But as I'm small and have trouble with almost all bikes, I can live with it. Rating : 5/5 Respond to FLO33

On the other hand, the suspension is soft, and despite changing the fork oil and increasing the rear preload, the intake pipes dry out and crack, and can let in air that's not great. The seat slips, and the duo has its limits, especially if you're going for a spin, as it quickly goes into a wheelie Rating : 4/5 Respond to Fzs38
i must admit i prefer phase 1 with its angular shape
i've done 175,000 kms with the first two and apart from the usual maintenance and an 85,000 clutch, it's a bike for everyday use, good for everything
i've taken over a phase 1 and since I don't ride much anymore (ah la santé) it's going to last me a long time!
the small annoying points a very dry gearbox (especially 1 and 2) the original seat, that it slips... and a carburation which requires precision, a good fingering for the adjustment otherwise this block is indestructible

I see we're the same age
I wanted to switch from a custom to this bike for more protection
Is the bubble high enough for good protection?
There height and position more or less advanced knowing that I measure 1.68m
Sincerely
See you soon

Otherwise great bike. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
You'll need a slightly higher bubble and a handlebar riser for the 1m70 and - otherwise good protection!

Alone or with 2 people, the pleasure remains the same.
Generous engine, powerful brakes.
I recommend this really affordable bike. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Franck14
the engine seems to be worn out at 41000km in your opinion? Rating : 1/5 Respond to konozos
Maybe air intakes at exhaust pipe level?
With kind regards. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

215000 odometer but 219000 real
no breakdowns, daily use 90kms all year round in all weathers and this summer 3000kms across france as a duo.
in 15 years just changed the front discs, 1 battery, exhaust manifold, rev counter cable mileage outside the usual
original clutch and timing.
therefore a very good economical machine with no faults
only fault: poor lighting at night and braking in very bad weather.
bonne route

A quick question for the experts es-virolos. I live in the Pyrenees and straight lines are not my thing. What set of tires would you recommend for my 600 FZS-SP (version with the bubble). It's about time
Thanks in advance for all your advice Rating : 5/5 Respond to Raph
accessories are a dime a dozen on the web, and even though it's 14 years old, Yamaha still supplies a heap of parts
on outings, even as a duo, it lives up to its reputation, and the passenger is really happy with the position
in touring mode (average speed 90km/h), the 17-liter fuel tank ensures a trouble-free 300km
in short, it's just the kind of bike that low-budget riders love! Rating : 5/5 Respond to imatt

Even if a little hollow at low revs and light a little fair at night (but some have already written), it remains a real jewel for riding on all types of roads !
More of a "vireton\" (bend) enthusiast, I'm enjoying it !

Originally I would have liked a twin because of my prejudices about 4-wheel households, but in the end the chance of a second-hand bike led me to a Fazer.
I don't regret my choice at all.
First of all, it's a real camel: at the beginning I was doing 5 liters, now I'm turning a bit higher in the revs for better grip, and I haven't made any new averages, but it shouldn't climb that much higher). Say hello to a minimum range of 300 km!
Then I'm tall (1.86m), and feel very comfortable on this bike.
Last but not least, the engine is a pleasure to ride: smooth at the bottom, pleasant in the middle, mean at the top!
It's always a pleasure to ride, and can turn into a machine that demands to be steered if the mood strikes you.
The only drawback was that, as the first motorcycle to be insured, my car insurance refused to insure me (even though I've had my licence for 4 years without ever having had an accident, and I've done 2 years of accompanied driving...). Nothing serious though, as I quickly found another insurer for 450 euros for third-party cover.
Happy driving! Rating : 3/5 Respond to Jonathan 07
