presentation of the 600 FAZER FZS 2001

The Fazer is a real success story. Behind its unassuming looks lies a motorcycle of rare versatility. Released in '98, the machine took advantage of the transition to the year 2000 to improve its range (+ 2 L in the tank), the duo, and complete its dashboard. The engine is that of the sporty Thundercat, but with a revised cylinder head, camshafts and carburetors. Remarkably designed, this medium-displacement roadster can do it all. City racing, weekend fun and Sunday racing. The FZS is as much at home in the city as on mountain roads, titillating Magny-cours in the morning and Grenoble-Marseille in the afternoon. A multi-faceted machine, there's nothing extraordinary about its design: a 95hp 4-cylinder engine installed in a classic double-cradle steel frame. Yes, but add torque beyond 4,000 rpm, good suspension, comfort, a protective fork head, a center stand, brakes derived from those of the R1, and you get the best-selling big cubes. And at less than 5 grand, the fazer gives you a lot of bang for your buck. Such a combination of talents doesn't come along very often.

600FZS from 2001, 85,000 km 2nd hand and a pleasure to ride, reliable, inexpensive in insurance and maintenance, cool and powerful if need be! Solo or duo, no worries. The only downside is the slightly improved LED lighting, but otherwise it's a great bike. Rating : 5/5

Extraordinary motorcycle. Simple and efficient. I bought it to take care of my S4R (a violent and impractical bike for everyday use), and I'm not disappointed: I'm really surprised by the power of this little 600 cm3 engine. It's supple, picks up nicely, is furious in the revs, and has a very decent range of just under 300 kms, so it doesn't consume much, less than 6 liters on mixed trips, and without being delicate with the handlebars...it's so practical, simple and intuitive that I have to relearn how to ride my ducate when I take it out..

The only noticeable and systematically pointed out faults are the lighting and the slippery seat, and the width, which means that even though it's a little lower than average, my "legs" are further apart, so I don't see any advantage in it. But as I'm small and have trouble with almost all bikes, I can live with it.

French Fzs38 Model 2000
My first motorcycle, bought in a limited Black series with carburetor, radiator scoop and engine mount. Pleasant to ride, with low fuel consumption, it can do everything, from cruising to riding off-road and other fanciful activities
On the other hand, the suspension is soft, and despite changing the fork oil and increasing the rear preload, the intake pipes dry out and crack, and can let in air that's not great. The seat slips, and the duo has its limits, especially if you're going for a spin, as it quickly goes into a wheelie

i've just bought a 600 fzs, 18 years old, 42,000 original km, in perfect condition and overhauled and tuned, very good machine, I'm having a lot of fun, a bit confusing at first because of the torque, if I don't push it hard I'm quickly in 6th gear without realizing it, comfortable, I'm going to put a handlebar riser on it to be able to ride more calmly in hairpins, the rear braking isn't great (maybe a repair kit and aviation hoses),if you take your time to find THE right second-hand bike, you can get good stuff for cheap,of course I'd recommend it even as a duo, this bike has plenty of power, and let's face it ....I deserve to have my license revoked every day, so I'll see you around, maybe.... depending on the deer crossing the road Rating : 4/5
French Model 2001
i'm on my third
i must admit i prefer phase 1 with its angular shape
i've done 175,000 kms with the first two and apart from the usual maintenance and an 85,000 clutch, it's a bike for everyday use, good for everything
i've taken over a phase 1 and since I don't ride much anymore (ah la santé) it's going to last me a long time!
the small annoying points a very dry gearbox (especially 1 and 2) the original seat, that it slips... and a carburation which requires precision, a good fingering for the adjustment otherwise this block is indestructible

i have a 2000 Fazer, my second, and I'm very happy with it in that it starts without a problem, without the choke, just a matter of warming it up before riding, which seems normal to me. i had the seat improved and the material changed by a saddler. When I say "seat", I mean just a rim that holds the back of the buttocks, but otherwise it's a very good tourer if I've also fitted a higher visor, which is very pleasant to ride, especially for 500 km. For the moment, I find it very versatile, even for city driving Rating : 5/5

Typically the motorcycle that didn't interest me (Mr. Everyman's normal Japanese) and left me cold when I tried it out (me, the Ducati enthusiast), the Fazer 600, bought to ride with the local motoclub, totally convinced me when I used it, and after three and a half years together, I don't plan to part with it one day. Incredibly easy to handle, despite its respectable size and weight, responsive and powerful, agile and precise, decent protection (even better when you've only known roadsters and Supermotards), well-equipped (the center stand and watch are really nice), reliable, extremely versatile, in a word very intelligently designed and with no major weak points (except for that stupid under-seat anti-theft system, a nightmare on a daily basis, the archetypal false good idea), all at today's ridiculously low prices (less expensive than a Bandit, or even a Diversion!), it would be a real shame to miss out. After a while, you even end up finding it pretty! Not as rakish as a Hornet or a Mostro, but balanced in line and meticulous in detail. A revelation, and proof that a motorcycle isn't always judged at first glance! Rating : 5/5

Hello, I've just got my A2 licence and I'm looking into buying my future bike. I was wondering if the Yamaha FAZER 600 FZS (2001 model) is suitable for an A2 license? Knowing that it makes 95hp and that the bridled motorcycle must not exceed half the original power, if the fazer is bridled it comes to 47.5hp and that's what I'm allowed to ride in theory? Thank you for your answers Rating : 4/5

40 years old and a young biker, this first bike is a delight. I love the retro styling, the lightness, the low fuel consumption, the capacity of the tank, the ease of use, the power, the fluidity in traffic... all that's left is to test it at night to check that the headlights suck, and with 2 people to see that it lacks torque... but personally, it suits me perfectly for the moment and I'm delighted! I highly recommend it!!! Rating : 4/5
French imatt Model 2000
very versatile, very comfortable; even when approaching from time to time, fuel consumption doesn't exceed 7.0L/7.5L per 100km; despite the carburetors, the engine remains very smooth and supple at all speeds

accessories are a dime a dozen on the web, and even though it's 14 years old, Yamaha still supplies a heap of parts

on outings, even as a duo, it lives up to its reputation, and the passenger is really happy with the position

in touring mode (average speed 90km/h), the 17-liter fuel tank ensures a trouble-free 300km

in short, it's just the kind of bike that low-budget riders love!

French Model 2001
Very pleasant motorcycle, whether in town or on the open road. Excellent fuel capacity and low fuel consumption on the open road. Good protection provided by the bubble (and side fairings on GT*), except at shoulder level at around 130-140km/h. Despite its 600cc and almost 100hp, the engine is very usable and easy to handle in town, but once you're in a duo, it's a bit of a pain to pick up again, forcing you (sometimes) to downshift to the passenger's dismay if you're too brusque on the throttle. The only disturbing detail is the handlebars, which lock your hand against the fuel tank when you're doing small maneuvers*.
* a small detail that characterizes mine.

I have the Model 98, my first motorcycle

Originally I would have liked a twin because of my prejudices about 4-wheel households, but in the end the chance of a second-hand bike led me to a Fazer.

I don't regret my choice at all.
First of all, it's a real camel: at the beginning I was doing 5 liters, now I'm turning a bit higher in the revs for better grip, and I haven't made any new averages, but it shouldn't climb that much higher). Say hello to a minimum range of 300 km!

Then I'm tall (1.86m), and feel very comfortable on this bike.

Last but not least, the engine is a pleasure to ride: smooth at the bottom, pleasant in the middle, mean at the top!

It's always a pleasure to ride, and can turn into a machine that demands to be steered if the mood strikes you.

The only drawback was that, as the first motorcycle to be insured, my car insurance refused to insure me (even though I've had my licence for 4 years without ever having had an accident, and I've done 2 years of accompanied driving...). Nothing serious though, as I quickly found another insurer for 450 euros for third-party cover.

Happy driving!

I bought this bike 1 and a half years ago. I have to say that when I read the article, I really rediscovered the qualities of my bike: really roadworthy after changing the seat, and when you need to, you can use its hidden side above 7000rpm. From then on, you really discover another bike (a sports bike). On the plus side, maintenance is not expensive. And at +45,000km, it runs like clockwork (100% original engine). In short, I love my Fazer and won't change bike until the engine fails or I destroy it. Rating : 5/5

It's the best bike I've ever owned, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to replace it? I ride it every day, in town and on the freeway. I often go on vacation on my motorcycle. I used to have a 500 suzuki, but I bought a 600 fazer model 2001, a super machine, powerful, easy to handle with good brakes. You have to measure out the braking, which is surprising, especially after the 500. I thought the bike was too powerful for a woman, but it suits me perfectly. Rating : 5/5
French etxe Model 1998
an exeptional machine!!! I first bought it in 34 hp, where, admittedly, despite an excellent clamping system, it's a real pain in the ass... but after an hour's assembly and disassembly (changing the carburetor bushels, needles, springs and diaphragms... a very, very simple operation that's within everyone's reach... if you want more details, consult me at etxedesign@hotmail.com...)you end up with a truly impressive little monster, endowed with extra ordinary versatility, a very good riding position and despite the little imperfections of the seat, the slightly low bubble, and....? it's perfect... charming fzs 600 owners, be careful, it's one of the last motorcycles that's so great and that can still be tinkered with, something that's tending to disappear with the advent of electronics and injection.... good riding to all Rating : 5/5

at first, I was hesitating with a 600 bandit, but fortunately, some fellow bikers guided me towards this machine; and now, I'm really not disappointed!!! one word only: extra!!! I ride a lot in the mountains and in the passes, it's amazingly easy to ride and the engine revs with delight; in short, a great tool to recommend. Rating : 5/5

Great bike! This is my second bike after a 125 NSR and I've been riding it for 5 months. I've done 7000 km on it alone and as a duo. Electric motorcycle. The big problem is the gearbox, which I find woefully too noisy! Especially when shifting into second gear and downshifting into first. Lack of torque (but it's a 600!) When riding a duo, the passenger tends to slide over the rider under braking, but a comfort seat immediately corrects the problem. Otherwise, it's got plenty of strong points! Terrific braking! Sporty, pwoooaaa, it pushes hard from 7000 rpm! The bubble is very useful and effective. It's a real sporty roadster, ideal for beginners, a real bike with an engine! But be careful, don't unplug your brain, you'll hurt yourself very quickly! Rating : 5/5

i've got the 99 model, and apart from the clunky gearbox and slightly limited lighting, I've got no complaints. It's easy to handle, easy to angle, with good torque for a 600, and although you have to play with the gearbox in the mountains, you're really enjoying yourself. In short, it's a good machine for beginners and experienced riders alike, and can do it all. Rating : 5/5

i bought a 2000 model in 2004, and discovered the beast after studying every detail in all kinds of magazines. In practice, everything's confirmed, it's great fun to ride, but you have to drive it with moderation. comfort-wise, we've seen better, but it's bearable, the only hitch is the gearbox, which is a bit noisy. you had to find something for it... It's a great bike!!! jcb Rating : 5/5
French kameleon d Model 1998
I've had one for 1 year now and to sum it up, it's TOP for a 600, it has everything you could want Good acceleration and the same for top speed, the only criticism is that it lacks a bit of torque at 2 The fuel consumption is correct, around 5 to 6l per 100km Super easy to handle (ideal for a young driver and for others) Personally, I prefer the 98 model to the new one, which lacks reliability and a little something I can't find! ( who knows what ??? ) I highly recommend it to everyone !!!! @+ on the road Rating : 5/5
French Boony Model 1998
There's nothing to report on the negative side, apart from a slight lack of torque when riding a duo. The slippery original saddle was quickly replaced by a comfortable one, and off we went for 750 kilometers of pleasure in the bends of the Massif Central!!!!! Never needed more fishing. Super bike Rating : 5/5
French fredysand Model 1998
Super machine! Very playful engine, very sound chassis and exceptional brakes (those of the R1!). It's an ideal compromise for having fun, and very inexpensive. Reliability is unquestionable and fuel consumption is very low (less than 6l). To try it is to adopt it! Rating : 5/5
