presentation of the 850 TRX 1999
tubular trellis frame, twin-cylinder engine, sporty styling - you're thinking Ducati? You're looking at a Yamaha. The TRX is a truly original model. It takes its engine from the 850 TDM, a parallel twin whose timing has been modified to 270°. While the mill is more expressive than on the Yam trail-roader, it suffers from a lack of suppleness and an excessively long first gear. Above all, it lacks the playful, captivating character of L-twins. Hardly recommended for city use, the bike proves more interesting and efficient on secondary roads... Provided you get the hang of it. The machine tends to rise when braking on a corner. Efficient, the double disc may require some attention if applied too forcefully. No worries in standard use. The trellis frame is reminiscent of Bologna productions. The TRX is fun to ride, although it's not as lively as machines with more "Japanese" geometry (aluminum perimeter frame and in-line 4-cylinder). The front axle is solid, but can be confusing for those not familiar with this type of motorcycle. This "special" sports bike is a pretty good one, but its ambiguous position, lack of image and more marginal riding style have isolated it quite a bit. Originality doesn't always pay off when it comes to temperamental machines.

wanted one since they came out back in 95
Not the fastest but if I want to go fast I have other bikes for that has alot of character have done trackdays on it and it holds its own in the tight stuff Rating : 4/5 Respond to Danz
Reliable, well-proven engine from TDM. It's not an Italian, a little less characterful, so they say... yes, but so much more reliable on a daily basis. I've kept it and it's always a great pleasure to take it out. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Pierre
I tried an r7 a little while ago, it's pretty close, a little less powerful where you get to 220 very quickly with the Trx, the r7 stops a little before that. It's not as lively as a Trx, it's not as sensational, but it's pretty close. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Hono
THANK YOU Rating : 5/5 Respond to DAN
From memory, the only fault I noticed in 20 mkm was a slightly weak clutch, but the rest was trouble-free. A good machine, not too exclusive, perfect for the road. Rating : 4/5 Respond to krs
i couldn't sell it, especially since it only has 18,000 original km! the rare pearl.
i've had 4 cylinders, mono, 3 (speed triple 1050) the trx is a connoisseur's bike. It's a motorcycle that can be ridden, and becomes a weapon in the corners.
it's not a Ducati (or I'd never have bought it), but it looks like one, and it's reliable ;-) Rating : 5/5 Respond to starflyer
Trixie is a marvel. Torque, handling and the satisfaction of wiping the smiles off the faces of many a pedant with countless unexploitable hair .... for them at least.
An endearing motorcycle with a touch of oil from time to time...so what?! So even after almost 100,000 km, it's charming with its sharp efficiency and rarity, making it a ride that's deserved and cherished over time.
Even if I were to ride others...I would never sell it. It would be a heartbreak as intense as the pleasures it brings me!
Bises a tous!!!
GAAAAAAAZZZ!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Turbo
it's not a girl's bike... the best thing is to go back to riding your CB500 :-) Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Bonne route à tous. Rating : 5/5 Respond to juju
As for the styling, there are adaptable accessories like the double-optic fork head, which makes it look very nice
i'm sorry for the former owner who sold it to me to buy a 1000 VTR that he didn't keep for a year, and who is now looking for a bike that could make him forget his mistake
I salute and thank him and all the TrixiDrivers! Rating : 5/5 Respond to LaDem
Not many remarks to make, minimal maintenance, ridiculous even, apart from the oil (at this mileage, the beast is starting to get greedy :-))
A small comment on the fork, which is a little soft, and the brakes, but with avia hoses, dot 5, and A3 pads, NICKEL!
Its thing is small roads, mountain passes, curves, tracks - in short, wherever it takes an angle, brakes, and springs back hard! TERRIBLE! Even on the ring road, you're blocked by 50 scoots, because it's so narrow! (since I'm missing a rear-view mirror, it goes even better ;-) and yes, gravel!)
It pulls low, very low if you put a small pinion, horns and pots, and it climbs high (it grows, even in the red)
Well, I won't go on and on about its assets, because I'm not done yet :-) lol
In short, as I said above, it's a shame that Yam didn't take responsibility for its choice to make an original bike, and that the press condemned it as a copy-cat as soon as it came out (well, it's true that in red and white...)
The worst thing is that everyone thinks it's ugly (okay, they could have invested a bit more in the design of the lights, especially the DIVERSION-style headlight...) and when you lend it out, a few days later, you see them in the classified ads... MDR

unlike any other, and especially unlike a Ducati (I invite all .... who ride a Ducati to give it a try!)
Riding a trx is a perpetual pleasure, with one small drawback (for those who like pure speed): top speed is a bit limited. on the other hand, the 80 hp are pure blood
A great bike to buy right away. Rating : 5/5 Respond to dge
Dead funny... That's the whole problem with "trying" without trying. We write big c.....ies
The only problem with the TRX is that it was scuttled by its own manufacturer; Had it been presented in "Gauloise" blue, black or dark green from the start (and not in red/white frame), its commercial career would have been all different.
What wankers those Yam' salesmen are... And what idiots those journalists (well... most of them) who fall for it.
What a bunch of two-bit scribblers who say "Ducati" every time the TRX is mentioned..
The same journalists were less than eager to compare the VTR and TLS with the Bolognese brand's ironclad productions. Yet these are V2s..
The TRX doesn't need to be a copy of anything. It stands on its own and deserves to be inverted. It's a true departmental sports bike, and a real pistarde
Are there any other places where you can enjoy motorcycle sport?
Ah yes... Troquet terraces..

i love it
it's super torquey, it pulls in any gear
and as soon as you hit half throttle, it's a slap in the face. It's a very good bike, too far ahead of its time, and the cafe racer taste is still with us today, so many people ask me what I know about it. I rode it 400 kilometers to find it, so don't give it a try

I'm green... First of all, I'm green because I ride a WR-F 250 (an incredibly easy enduro machine), but above all because I was lucky enough to cover 5,000 km on a TRX and it's no longer in my garage
Trained as a salesman and having worked in a Yamaha dealership, I've been able to try out the whole range, and of all of them, the TRX is the best! Unaccustomed to bi bikes, it took me about fifty kilometers to get the hang of this characterful engine, which knocks a bit at low revs, but becomes a real pleasure to ride as soon as you hit the mid-range. And what about its chassi? It's a bike you can ride with your fingertips: just look at the chord point and it'll come to you without the slightest effort. If this bike didn't work out, I think it's mainly due to the fact that the sports jap clentele only swears by the race for power... and yet on the road before you can get 100% out of 80 horsepower..
Well, in life you can't do everything, and I've chosen dirt over asphalt. Nevertheless, it's with great pleasure that I read your "loving" comments on the trixie. Keep on keeping this bike alive, it deserves it and will give it back to you. Rating : 5/5 Respond to victorio
So, for those of you reading this who are hesitating to become a "twix" owner... go for it!
bye bye Rating : 5/5 Respond to Pierrot
so two years ago, as soon as i was freed from the yoke of the "34 ch", i gave up my xj to buy my dream bike
everything would have been perfect in the best of all possible worlds if the bastard who sold it to me hadn't been a big fat shit, so after three months the engine slammed (2000e), the carburetors had to be rebuilt because the dynojet stage 7 was uncontrollable (200e because everything had to be redone) and I still had to rebuild the gearbox because the third one had a nasty tendency to jump if I pulled on it too hard
However, if I'm doing all this it's because this bike is fantastic, it's not her I'm angry at, it's the asshole who messed her up and forgot to tell me she was rinsed
in short, if you find a TRX in good condition, the pleasure must be even greater, because I repeat, this bike is marvelous. Rating : 5/5 Respond to felix
