presentation of the 850 TRX 1999

tubular trellis frame, twin-cylinder engine, sporty styling - you're thinking Ducati? You're looking at a Yamaha. The TRX is a truly original model. It takes its engine from the 850 TDM, a parallel twin whose timing has been modified to 270°. While the mill is more expressive than on the Yam trail-roader, it suffers from a lack of suppleness and an excessively long first gear. Above all, it lacks the playful, captivating character of L-twins. Hardly recommended for city use, the bike proves more interesting and efficient on secondary roads... Provided you get the hang of it. The machine tends to rise when braking on a corner. Efficient, the double disc may require some attention if applied too forcefully. No worries in standard use. The trellis frame is reminiscent of Bologna productions. The TRX is fun to ride, although it's not as lively as machines with more "Japanese" geometry (aluminum perimeter frame and in-line 4-cylinder). The front axle is solid, but can be confusing for those not familiar with this type of motorcycle. This "special" sports bike is a pretty good one, but its ambiguous position, lack of image and more marginal riding style have isolated it quite a bit. Originality doesn't always pay off when it comes to temperamental machines.

Brilliant bike brought mine 95 jdm spec had over 6 years now

A motorcycle with character. Note that the description indicates a slightly long 1st gear, but this was only the case on the very first models, and was quickly corrected by Yamaha. It's a lightweight bike that doesn't waste power on weight. This makes it efficient in acceleration, in small bends and in the mountains.
Reliable, well-proven engine from TDM. It's not an Italian, a little less characterful, so they say... yes, but so much more reliable on a daily basis. I've kept it and it's always a great pleasure to take it out.

This is the bike that gave me the most smiles when I rode it, and I already have a lot of bikes in my history. But I have to admit that the oil consumption was crazy. Rating : 5/5

I've had one since 2007, before that I had a Tl1000s, I wouldn't sell it, what a pleasure
I tried an r7 a little while ago, it's pretty close, a little less powerful where you get to 220 very quickly with the Trx, the r7 stops a little before that. It's not as lively as a Trx, it's not as sensational, but it's pretty close.

very nice machine that I bought after visiting the Mondial de la moto in 1995. I hesitated with a 900 ss, but the random reliability of the red beauties at the time had cooled me down a bit. I had so many good memories of riding this machine, and what was surprising was that it didn't have any staggering torque at low revs, but once you got past 4,500 rpm, it became a bit of a pushover and revved endlessly, the chassis was very decent and the machine was light. What was surprising was that it had rather limited success on its release (Yamaha quickly lowered the price from 5000 francs at the time to hope to sell some! ), but it became very popular as a second-hand model.
From memory, the only fault I noticed in 20 mkm was a slightly weak clutch, but the rest was trouble-free. A good machine, not too exclusive, perfect for the road.

32 years old and 12th bike... and my TRX will stay in my garage come what may!
i couldn't sell it, especially since it only has 18,000 original km! the rare pearl.
i've had 4 cylinders, mono, 3 (speed triple 1050) the trx is a connoisseur's bike. It's a motorcycle that can be ridden, and becomes a weapon in the corners.
it's not a Ducati (or I'd never have bought it), but it looks like one, and it's reliable ;-)

Hi everyone!
Trixie is a marvel. Torque, handling and the satisfaction of wiping the smiles off the faces of many a pedant with countless unexploitable hair .... for them at least.
An endearing motorcycle with a touch of oil from time to time...so what?! So even after almost 100,000 km, it's charming with its sharp efficiency and rarity, making it a ride that's deserved and cherished over time.
Even if I were to ride others...I would never sell it. It would be a heartbreak as intense as the pleasures it brings me!
Bises a tous!!!

I'm sorry, but my TRX needs to be completely overhauled for me to have fun with it. First, all the geometry needs to be changed. Rear arm and complete fork to be changed. It's really not a bike to go looking for sidewalls in the original comfiguration.... Rating : 5/5

i've been dreaming about one ever since it came out, even before my precious sesame rose, and i finally found one! what a marvel! never before had a becane given me so much pleasure! it's true that the first one is a bit long as soon as you get to town, but with such a torquey forest tractor, that's not really a problem anymore! 2 IXIL pots, 2 horns, and the pleasure of the highways becomes a real pleasure! a dream come true! all that's left is for yam's engineers to pull their fingers out of their asses and make us a little 900 TRX (it can't be that complicated to redesign a TDM engine again!) and for the sales team to do the same! with a little willpower on their part, it should be a hit!i'm not going to say "forza TRX!!!", that would sound too ducat', but i don't think less of it! pouah!!! ducat'!! these bikes are ideal for going from home to the nearest dealership to have the electric part rebuilt, or from one café terrace to another! in short, a kéké's bike! at least the TRX is a real bike for the "roule-toujours"! bonne route à tous!! ;) Rating : 5/5

I had the opportunity to buy a TRX in January, from 2000 with 26000kms, in great condition, a pure marvel, I fitted it with 2 Scorpion mufflers, it's nothing but happiness. I've already done 6000 km since then, with no worries, apart from 1 tire every 2500 kms.In the mountains, it knows how to place itself at the head of the ploton, and leaves behind it a good number of machines style R6 03' (a salute to coco). Very handy, I'm not ready to part with it
Bonne route à tous.

I have the 1998 model, red and black, 70,000kms on the odometer. After a good engine overhaul at 50000kms following the acquisition, it no longer consumes oil. I took the opportunity to have the camshafts re-trimmed at POWER in Besançon, and the engine became rougher, a real treat on the roads of the Jura, where I live. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait to get my license back after it was revoked for speeding (let's be careful!)
As for the styling, there are adaptable accessories like the double-optic fork head, which makes it look very nice
i'm sorry for the former owner who sold it to me to buy a 1000 VTR that he didn't keep for a year, and who is now looking for a bike that could make him forget his mistake
I salute and thank him and all the TrixiDrivers!

In fact, it all depends on what you're looking for. If you're into horsepower, this is not the bike for you. I'm not interested in horses I don't know what to do with, and my 1997 TRX is more than enough for me to have a great time. Now, to all those who talk about it without knowing it, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. My life as a motorcyclist has changed radically since 1988, after V4s and other big monos. thanks to YAM despite everything........ Rating : 5/5
3 years, 35,000 km (70 in total), I'm having a bit of trouble parting with it, I'm a bit afraid of losing out (especially since its former owner offered to buy it back from me! apparently a bit disappointed by his new acquisition, made in Italy (and no, not a ducat))

Not many remarks to make, minimal maintenance, ridiculous even, apart from the oil (at this mileage, the beast is starting to get greedy :-))
A small comment on the fork, which is a little soft, and the brakes, but with avia hoses, dot 5, and A3 pads, NICKEL!

Its thing is small roads, mountain passes, curves, tracks - in short, wherever it takes an angle, brakes, and springs back hard! TERRIBLE! Even on the ring road, you're blocked by 50 scoots, because it's so narrow! (since I'm missing a rear-view mirror, it goes even better ;-) and yes, gravel!)
It pulls low, very low if you put a small pinion, horns and pots, and it climbs high (it grows, even in the red)
Well, I won't go on and on about its assets, because I'm not done yet :-) lol

In short, as I said above, it's a shame that Yam didn't take responsibility for its choice to make an original bike, and that the press condemned it as a copy-cat as soon as it came out (well, it's true that in red and white...)
The worst thing is that everyone thinks it's ugly (okay, they could have invested a bit more in the design of the lights, especially the DIVERSION-style headlight...) and when you lend it out, a few days later, you see them in the classified ads... MDR
Rating : 5/5
a great bike,
unlike any other, and especially unlike a Ducati (I invite all .... who ride a Ducati to give it a try!)
Riding a trx is a perpetual pleasure, with one small drawback (for those who like pure speed): top speed is a bit limited. on the other hand, the 80 hp are pure blood
A great bike to buy right away.

"Above all, it lacks the playful, captivating character of the L-shaped twins."

Dead funny... That's the whole problem with "trying" without trying. We write big c.....ies

The only problem with the TRX is that it was scuttled by its own manufacturer; Had it been presented in "Gauloise" blue, black or dark green from the start (and not in red/white frame), its commercial career would have been all different.
What wankers those Yam' salesmen are... And what idiots those journalists (well... most of them) who fall for it.

What a bunch of two-bit scribblers who say "Ducati" every time the TRX is mentioned..
The same journalists were less than eager to compare the VTR and TLS with the Bolognese brand's ironclad productions. Yet these are V2s..

The TRX doesn't need to be a copy of anything. It stands on its own and deserves to be inverted. It's a true departmental sports bike, and a real pistarde
Are there any other places where you can enjoy motorcycle sport?
Ah yes... Troquet terraces..

i love it
it's super torquey, it pulls in any gear
and as soon as you hit half throttle, it's a slap in the face. It's a very good bike, too far ahead of its time, and the cafe racer taste is still with us today, so many people ask me what I know about it. I rode it 400 kilometers to find it, so don't give it a try

Hello to all TRX lovers

I'm green... First of all, I'm green because I ride a WR-F 250 (an incredibly easy enduro machine), but above all because I was lucky enough to cover 5,000 km on a TRX and it's no longer in my garage
Trained as a salesman and having worked in a Yamaha dealership, I've been able to try out the whole range, and of all of them, the TRX is the best! Unaccustomed to bi bikes, it took me about fifty kilometers to get the hang of this characterful engine, which knocks a bit at low revs, but becomes a real pleasure to ride as soon as you hit the mid-range. And what about its chassi? It's a bike you can ride with your fingertips: just look at the chord point and it'll come to you without the slightest effort. If this bike didn't work out, I think it's mainly due to the fact that the sports jap clentele only swears by the race for power... and yet on the road before you can get 100% out of 80 horsepower..

Well, in life you can't do everything, and I've chosen dirt over asphalt. Nevertheless, it's with great pleasure that I read your "loving" comments on the trixie. Keep on keeping this bike alive, it deserves it and will give it back to you.

it's unfortunate to say that as soon as you have a trixie you have trouble parting with it and well it's true I've had one for 3 years and nothing will make me change it for sure at the moment it has 67 000 km and no problem it's really the machine to have fun and for the endurance of its engine and for the assholes who say it's because we can't afford a ducat, well they can go to hell Rating : 5/5

Well, I'm not going to be very innovative in my comments... For me, the "twix" (I prefer to call it that...) is a great and endearing bike. Maneuverable on small roads, comfortable on freeways, its engine and frame give it a character and personality all its own. What's great about this machine is that you don't get bored with every metre you ride it, because you're riding it at 200%. I've been riding it for 3 years, and it's still my best machine yet!
So, for those of you reading this who are hesitating to become a "twix" owner... go for it!
bye bye

i've been a trx freak since i was 15: the first time i saw one, i said to myself "this one will be mine! lol
so two years ago, as soon as i was freed from the yoke of the "34 ch", i gave up my xj to buy my dream bike
everything would have been perfect in the best of all possible worlds if the bastard who sold it to me hadn't been a big fat shit, so after three months the engine slammed (2000e), the carburetors had to be rebuilt because the dynojet stage 7 was uncontrollable (200e because everything had to be redone) and I still had to rebuild the gearbox because the third one had a nasty tendency to jump if I pulled on it too hard
However, if I'm doing all this it's because this bike is fantastic, it's not her I'm angry at, it's the asshole who messed her up and forgot to tell me she was rinsed
in short, if you find a TRX in good condition, the pleasure must be even greater, because I repeat, this bike is marvelous.

Well, I say... What happiness! What's more, my little wife is so uncomfortable sitting on the rear mouse pad that she lets me ride it up the Swiss, Haute-Savoie, Savoie etc. passes all by myself, and then it's bliss. The guy who sold it to me bought a 2004 R1 and regrets it a bit, too bad for him... :o) On the other hand, I ride it every day (summer and winter) in town and I can't find anything to say about it, it weaves in and out of traffic really well. On that note, I'd like to wish all motorcyclists good luck on the road, and good riding (I saw one this summer in a T-shirt on the freeway), there really are some badgers out there. Cheers and good luck. Rating : 5/5

this becane is a real beauty!!! those who call it a cheap ducat' haven't understood a thing. unfortunately, it's very hard to find second-hand or at too high a mileage. I've just bought a TRX and I'm getting the sensations I'd expect from a real motorcycle. on the other hand, in town (low revs) it bumps a bit and eats up oil. it's a character bike, but there are easier things to live with. Rating : 5/5

I'm the HAPPY owner of a '97 "trixie" (as it's called), and it's the best bike I've ever owned! A big, manly bycylinder that tears up the asphalt on every corner exit and at every red light! (no more 4-legs ahahah) Just like xspider, I have a blast on mountain curves. What a joy to live in Savoie...and to leave the "big" hayabusa type far behind! A word of advice, as the original 1st is too long: change the 17-tooth sprocket for 16 or even 15, otherwise everything's perfect...or almost, because of the duo! Rating : 5/5

it's the best machine I've ever had (I've been riding it for 4 years), I've had some mean 4inchers like the 1100gsxr 600strad 97 ...but none of them gave me as much pleasure in curves, and on twisty roads, it's a real head-scratcher...i remember climbing the col du grans st bernard from the bottom of the vallee d'aoste in italy towards suiisse, we set off with 2 buddies who had tdm and a bunch of inline 4s (hayabusa zx9r 900cbr...) we ate them all up and had time to take photos at the top of the pass and buy souvenirs before seeing the inline 4s show their faces... (note that we had really ridden the jobar :) but still!!! it leaves you breathless so to all the idiots who criticize this bike, to all the ignoramuses who talk without knowing and to the yamaha firm that didn't have the courage to continue imposing its choices in terms of motorcycles poor cararteres of you...
