presentation of the XSR 700 Legacy 2023

For the XSR 700 Legacy, Yamaha has added a little more nostalgia to its neo-retro-Faster-Sons range. Lacking a true scrambler in its line-up, the manufacturer is shifting the average XSR towards a more rural identity. A story of heritage, where accessories are more present than arguments.

This XSR smells a bit like moss growing on stones, dust from an old book and a plaid shirt. The Legacy's chassis and mechanics are no different from those of the standard 700, so Yam dresses it up in a grayish hue, with bronze-gold rims and the iconic "Speedblock" motif to distinguish it.

This feeling is reinforced by the presence of gussets at the top of the forks, handlebars lined with a reinforcement bar, a grille over the headlight, off-road-style grips, reinforced footpegs, a flat (but slightly curved) seat and Pirelli MT 60 RS block tires.

It' s very close to factory preparation. Far from Yard Built concepts; closer to trendy cosmetics.
In the final analysis, this Legacy follows in the footsteps of the X-Tribute, with the same accessories - only the extra headlamp cover and the color make a difference.

A good dose of frivolity on a machine that just needs a good laugh. The 73-hp twin is one of the most sparkling in current production. The riding position is more relaxed than on the MT-07, making you less inclined to attack and more inclined to enjoy. Its large handlebars make cornering easier, and its dynamic behavior promises to be just as sound as the other XSRs. Except for the suspensions, which are released when the rider sets the pace.

The XSR Legacy is also available in mini format, with the MT-125 engine. It's a pity that, unlike its little sister, the 700 didn't opt for spoked wheels. The charm would have been more striking.
