Motorcycle specifications BMWK 1200 LT 2008 Long-haul luxury

Touring

no doubt scalded by the arrival of the Goldwing 1800, BM is dusting off its long-haul cruiser. Always with calm and pleasure, because the K 1200 LT is one of the most incredible vessels in motorcycle production. Little has changed in the BM's classy, majestic lines; the front mudguard has been modified, the chrome pack is now standard, and the BM signature (the double bean on the front, also found on sedans) has been replaced by an additional headlight. Gone are the counters borrowed from the brand's cars - an all-new, ultra-complete instrument panel sits right in front of the rider's eyes. A new look and the addition of a multifunction digital dial (not far removed from the i-drive system on the 5 and 7 series).

It's all for the better, but the biggest job is the one you can't see. The engine benefits from a number of improvements, and its power is increased to 116 hp. A touch more torque, a revised gearbox, increased caster and a new shock absorber:BMW K 1200 LT the K is ready for long adventures with even greater serenity and comfort. Even the seat has been redesigned to enhance on-board comfort. At Münich, we like to innovate. And for the big, heavy baby, a new electro-hydraulic center stand makes maneuvering much easier. Compared to its great rival, the Honda 1800 Goldwing, the BM doesn't offer the same velvety engine. Lacking a little torque, the 4-stroke is not as seductive as the Japanese 6-cylinder. It makes up for this with superior comfort and a more attractive (if substantial) price tag. The LT gains 9 kg for 2004, and the list of options has grown even longer. There's everything you need to find yourself at the handlebars of a road-going 747.

Tires wear out very quickly. What kind of tire should I get for my k1200lt? Rating : 4/5
French Eric Model 2009
So for me, I sold my 2003 1300 Pan at 120,000 km and replaced it with a 2009 12 LT at 55,000 km. I'm 1.80 m tall, and I can hear the radio "correctly" up to about 110 km/h. Otherwise, it's a pleasure to ride, and I swallow up the kilometers without getting tired. Other than that, it's a joy to drive, you can swallow up the kilometers without getting tired. 66,000 km today, I'm thinking of selling... But to take what?! Good road to all & all Rating : 4/5
French Model 2008
no comments I've just bought it and I've ridden it very little, at the start vibration noise from the fairings at the front but faded when riding not violent but given my age (71) it suits me I've been riding for 52 years with various bikes like 1500 Goldwing ,1300 venture harley electra glide etc....... so I think this is the last one, I don't ride much just for pleasure having ridden a whole career in all weathers and so on.....except that now my windshield is scratched and I can't see much of it I'm looking for a way to make it new thanks to all and gently with the handle in the corner the parent points quickly bon vent les vrais motards Rating : 4/5

I had a k1200 lt of 2007 until July 2019 I replaced it by a k1600 gtl I have just resold it to repurchase a k1200 lt of 2009 I will finally find the pleasure of the piloting Rating : 5/5
French jope Model 2009
I had a 1200LT, which I almost sold 2 years ago in favor of a 1200RT, but after trying it out, I gave up. This year, I bought a 1600GTL, and my 1200LT was sold. After a 1500 km ride with the 1600, I'm starting to miss my LT. If I find a good second-hand 1200LT (year 2008 2009), I think I'll come back to it. Sure, it's got less HP, but for comfortable riding, there's nothing better. And the reverse gear is a real plus, as is the electric stand. I'll keep an eye on the classified ads, and maybe I'll find what I'm looking for.... Rating : 5/5

Very surprised by all the qualities of this bike. Brakes very well, torque braking (front-rear) perfect. Holds the road very well, electric center stand (a must). Very low fuel consumption, I've never managed to reach 6l/100. Nervous, you have to rev it up #8500 rpm. Good wind and rain protection (German so), plenty of storage space. Top passenger comfort (according to my passenger). So the wolf? City driving and low-speed maneuvers. You'd better be 1m80 tall, because the seat is 770 high and the bike is wide. The center of gravity is too high, so maneuvering the beast isn't easy. Still, I'm delighted with it, the best of my 25 bikes in 45 years... Rating : 4/5

Hello everyone
I have braking problems and it's not easy to find an authorized repairer !!!
The electric pump works then lights up and loss of braking: we no longer hear the electric pump!!!
I turn off the ignition and put it back on: it starts again but very dangerous!!! Do you have a solution?
Another acknowledged problem: radio failure: only works on one side: it's not a problem with the connections, but the amp is out of order on one side: it's not normal for BMW to remedy this problem free of charge!..
Less trouble with the PAN EURO 1300 ..

hollow motor, weight too high, and finally a general breakdown that forced the replacement of the main electric harness - although it far exceeded the warranty (3 1/2 years) BMW took full responsibility for the repair, thank you. i sold it right after, no more confidence! Rating : 1/5

For me, it's the ideal bike for long rides for two. It has a very interesting range of equipment. Personally, my bike is also equipped with a GPS. It's a top-of-the-range motorcycle, with very reasonable fuel consumption. I don't regret my choice. Rating : 5/5

60000 km on my K1200LT ... all kinds of roads and in all weathers !!! except snow !!! ( Greece, Croatia, major Alpine passes, Corsica, crossing France etc. . ) nothing but happiness. I've got a high bubble (I'm 1.87 m tall) and it's royal, especially for my wife. We always ride together, and with a luggage rack on top of the body. Just a clutch problem at 30,000 km, and a broken gearshift (bad alloy), but otherwise nothing serious. Extraordianire on long journeys, just be very wary of slow downs and parking lots. I'm going to change it next year for the same model
Best regards bikers.

Hello everyone, and in particular Pascal 71, I'm about to buy a BMW K 1200 LT, as I really like this bike, I already own a 1340 Roadking Harley Davidson and a Kawasaki 1000 GTR, i read that you had a clutch problem, what was it, is it a fault on this bike, because on the various ads for sale especially among pros, it seems that this is frequent with low mileage, 48000, 64000 or e\"ncore 88000 kms.....ma 1000 GTR has 155000 with its original clutch and also weighs 340 kgs fully loaded, are there other repetitive faults like audio depending on the year and vintage? Thank you for answering
Sincerely and happy new year to all. Wolf

i've just swapped a 2003 for a 2005 bought in Germany for 4000 euros less. Fully equipped, I'm waiting for the snow to melt before picking it up from my dealer, who is preparing it for registration in France. Power in Germany higher than in France (too bad) Is there a 184cm biker who drives with the windshield up? I'm curious to know if it actually protects us big guys. I do 20,000kms a year with unequalled comfort too bad this bike won't be replaced by BMW.... Rating : 5/5
French GERMINATOR Model 2004
This K1200 LT is a real winner: comfort, engine, safety, ergonomics, easy to ride on the road (on the freeway... you can sleep!!!), fuel consumption, reasonable maintenance compared with the Japanese, insurance rates..
Only downside: be careful when stopping and in town
This is my 17th bike; I owned a K1200RS just before; this one is of course the best, and my wife agrees completely, although she's a bit confused at first, due to the position of the back against the top-case
The only problem is... I don't know what to buy now... I've done 13,000 kms in 8 months... only good memories
Best regards to all motorcyclists... the real ones who ride... cyclos, mopeds, motorcycles, sides, etc..

Comfort, handling, braking, fuel consumption
Nothing but happiness. It's almost too good, because I realize that I tend to drive a little too fast!
Which is a bit annoying
The engine below 2,000 rpm lacks torque for its displacement and vibrates, creating resonances in the fairing. The rear brake, which screams when it's hot and you brake gently with the pedal in town
To compare with the 1500 Gold I had before
The + safety (roadholding and braking), comfort (seat, "heating" and especially suspension), fuel consumption (6.1 L over 12,000 Km doing city riding every day. Never less than 8 L with the Gold)
The - Enjoyment of the 6-cylinder (silence, smoothness and torque), trunk volume, sound quality, ease in town at low speed (turning radius and center of gravity lower on the Gold).

French Many Model 2004
Hello,
What happiness this bike despite warnings like: "you're a girl, it's too heavy, too high...."
The only complaint so far is the noisy rear brakes, despite BM's replacement of the rear discs and pads
The saddlebags, too, are less practical than on the 1150 RT. Nothing fundamental and a real pleasure to ride in all weathers
Bonne route à tous

After owning a k1200lt for 2 years and a gold1800 for 1 year, I bought a 2004 model k1200lt. Why such a comeback? The plus points compared with the gold: build quality (equipment), finish (plastics, fittings, paintwork), braking, shock absorption (comfort, great handling on rough roads), fuel consumption, cheaper tires. The minus points: engine (noisy, vibrating at low speeds), riding position for grown-ups, BMW overhaul prices. Having travelled the length and breadth of France with the 2 biggest motorcycles on the market, I've come to the conclusion that the BMW is the most comfortable and the most suitable for everyday use. So, journalists, reedit your tests and your copies, because the gold 1800 is certainly not the limousine and the magic carpet so often described in your articles. Try and take a close look at a k1200lt, and you'll see the difference. Rating : 5/5
French carrera91 Model 2004
I've just come off a K 1200 GT, so I'm bluffed by the comfort, and also surprised by the handling and pick-up of the engine, which makes a nicer noise than on the GT. As someone who rides a motorcycle every day (including in the Paris suburbs), I'm going to have a hard time changing bikes. A few shortcomings: noisy rear braking (BMW is waiting for parts to change the disc), beware of the weight when stopping, noisy center stand when handling, very practical access to the tank, and of course the price, which is still less expensive than a GOLD. Rating : 5/5
French Gilles 29 Model 2004
13,000 km since purchase in June. Heavy in town, easy to handle on the road. Caution: side stand too short... They all come down... Capricious electric center stand. Lots of noise at idle and at low speeds. Noisy rear brakes despite overhaul. Impractical panniers (I preferred those on the R 1150 RT) but top case great. Engine great, braking ditto, comfort and protection ditto, lighting ditto, good range (over 350 km), build quality average - overall satisfaction score 8 out of 10. Rating : 5/5
French Totof Model 2004
The torque of a custom, the handling and agility of a sports bike, the comfort of a Gold, the ease of riding of a trail bike. What more could you ask for? More than versatile, it's perfection on every level. I've had one of these, and no other has ever seduced me as much. Maybe the Rocket III, but I haven't tried it yet. Rating : 5/5
