Motorcycle specifications HondaGL 1500 GOLDWING 2000 A 6-cylinder palace

Touring

As the 90s approached, Honda presented the most fabulous motorcycle limousine ever produced. An extraordinary machine made to measure for America. A liner with royal comfort and a unique engine: a 1,520 cm3 flat 6-cylinder. Absolute storage capacity, a radio-cassette as standard, and you're all set for the journey. The engine is a velvety delight, and its positioning gives the bike a low center of gravity. The same applies to the seat. Comfort is on a par, and everything has been designed to make it unforgettable: compressor-adjustable suspension, cruise-control, night-lit controls, electric reverse, integral braking, beyond-perfect protection, car sedan lighting... and the list goes on. The bike has good roadholding (a tad uncertain in long curves) if you keep below 160. Should you persist, the appalling fuel consumption will quickly calm you down. Such a machine inevitably takes up a lot of space, is hard to improvise around and requires a hefty budget. These are minor shortcomings compared to an imperial traveler, but above all to a staggering motorcycle. Now it's up against the K 1200 LT, a very accomplished and serious Teutonic rival.

i'm considering buying a used 1999 Goldwing 1500 with 57,000 kms I would just like to know if this is a good or bad year and if 57000 kms is not too much?
Please tell me if this is a good idea or a bad one
I had the 1000 Goldwing when I was young and since then I've had a lot of BMs, especially the K 1200 LT FL, but it's too heavy and above all too high.

I may be a little late answering! But don't hesitate for me j\'ai un Gl de 1990 mod Us elle a 110000klms. I'm travelling the length and breadth of France now that our children are grown up, a real pleasure and uncommon reliability, the only thing is to keep to the revisions and off we go 😀 bonne route Rating : 5/5

the comment is simple the motorcycle has 21 years always relatively clean I make all myself in reality little thing oil change, consomable, distrib by respecting the kms.only breakdown more important the rupture of the splines d\'shaft of transmission by lack of greasing (greasing could be envisaged grease nipple on arm occilant) replacement of all the bearings by SKF reinforce (pivot, wheels, arm occilant has 12000 the motorcycle totals currently 376000 kms since RAS.the gearbox is starting to hang 3/4 but not bad, electicitée totally original (not sapin noel) alternator faiseau ok.le moteur/boite jamais ouvert ni sortie du cadre je fais régulièrement le Mans-Bayonne pas de problemes de dos donc je ne changerai pas jusqu'a casse définitive pour une autre 1500 GL en réalité je dirairai que c\'est la moto qui revient le moins cher en rapport au Kilométrage efectuer bien sur en achat a long terme... I own a jade green GL 1500, a color that suits this palace wonderfully.
I've been a winger since I was 20, and I'm not at all tired of the Goldwing.
Like Loulou 67, I appreciate the 1500's portability?
What's more, the sound is magical, without the hiss of the latest 1800s.
For me, who loves motorcycle touring, it's the ultimate.
In fact, I'm keeping it and hope to equip it with a trike in the near future.

this is my second Gold 1500 (1995 and 2000).44 years of motorcycling and I regret only discovering the Goldwing 8 years ago. No room for error or fantasy, but what a treat.
To try it is to adopt it.

hi everyone,

i've owned a 99 Gold 1500 for 3 years, but before that I owned a 2006 bm K1200LT.
My personal opinion beyond the seat height bm 4cylinders for 6 cylinders for the Gold, t\'a not photos better torque for the Gold.

Now the strong point of the K1200LT is better handling on wet roads.

Au plaisir de vous relire.

can anyone tell me if they've had alternator problems. I can't find the data sheet for a 1500 from 05/1994. Do you know if it has a built-in regulator or (and) a rectifier? I changed the battery 2 years ago and I find it dry at the beginning of the summer. Rating : 5/5

Having travelled the length and breadth of France with this carriage, it has brought me nothing but happiness. Shared with the whole family (3 children, Mrs. driving a 1100 virago), I remember the extremely magical crossing of the Cévennes.I've been a motorcyclist since I was 8 years old (I'll soon be 50), I do my own mechanics (maintenance, repairs, etc.) and I love the road and meeting new people.

i'm coming out of a 1989 1500 gl with 310000 kms, the 1999 gold has nothing to do with the first models, lower, road holding, power, engine sound, exhaust, shame it's not in stainless steel, 45 watt us lighting, small modification to go to 55 -60 watt Rating : 4/5
French Loulou-67 Model 1999
What can I say? 162000 km, no electronics, so it's reliable enough to drive with the missus and trailer
A hell of a 6-cylinder, which can still be tinkered with, and phenomenal carrying capacity, more than the 1800
Think about it, you can fit a total of 8 helmets on the bike,
I'm not changing
Look for my loulou-67 blog on the net..........

hello, as the owner of both models (1800 and 1500), I can confirm that three points are superior on the 1500: comfort, the radio and the larger saddlebags. apart from that, the 1800 is more accomplished. as for aesthetics, that's debatable, I like both models.my 1500 went from 405 kg to 501 km (on the scale) because of the many dinosaurs sculpted on it. hey yes it's the jurassic;see on journal du motard ° 84 of november.my 1800 will stay in its juice.on bad road I prefer the comfort of the 1500 the suspension is much softer.amitiés à tous Guynosaure. I've been riding a 1992 GL1500 SE for 10 years now, and my wife and I do around 25 to 30,000 kms a year. Every year, we go on vacation - we've toured Europe several times - with camping equipment and no trailer, and we travel between 3,500 and 5,000 kms without any problems, in total comfort... We can easily do 900 kms in a day without getting tired, thanks to the engine, the smoothness and the silence... So bon route to all 1500 and 1800 owners! Rating : 4/5

One 1100 and two 1500s; the 1500 really is the Rolls of the Motorcycle! 1000 Kilometers in a day and be ready at the finish line! Not easy to do much better ! On the other hand, when you stop... you'd better have both feet on the ground! otherwise you'll have to gently accompany the fall!! and provide a buddy to lift her up!! but that's hardly a drawback....you just have to know about it!!! Bonne route à tous !!!! Rating : 5/5

I own an '88 GL1500! I bought it new just for one season... and 21 years later it's still in my garage. Incredible motorcycle in every way. I've also ridden an 1800, but I don't think it's a GoldWing anymore: comfort, handling and braking aren't in the same spirit. So I'm keeping my 15! In 200,000 km, almost no breakdowns: one fuel pump, one alternator and that's it! Rating : 5/5
French Model 2000
I'm 50 and have a gold 1500 after a 1000 and a 1200. What a change between the 4 cylinders and the six! Unique and fabulous engine. Fuel consumption? Personally, I'm always under 7 litres/100 in mixed city and highway driving. That's right, I ride my Gold every day in town. Complaints? Braking lacks bite, bulk, weight. Even if it's said to be a relatively easy bike, it's best reserved for experienced riders, otherwise young riders risk putting it down a lot when maneuvering at low speed. I tried the 1800: great bike. I don't like its look compared to the 1500 and the loss of a little comfort. Otherwise, its biggest drawback is its price and the absence of an automatic gearbox. after almost 20 years of sport bikes of all kinds( cbr929,stinger,hayabusa,etc,etc) i switched to LA gold after a thunderbolt... of course,it takes some getting used to when you go from a bike weighing less than 200kgs fully loaded to one weighing more than 400kgs! my girlfriend, who wasn't really into motorcycles (discomfort, rain, cold and fear!), won't get off one, whatever the weather! in short, even though I hear at least once a week that I'm riding an old man's bike, I'm delighted! (37 years old) and after a test ride of a few dozen kilometers with the 1800, I'm still clinging to the 1500, even if the "new" one has made great progress in braking, handling and maneuverability... it's lost a soul in the process! bonne route a tous, et toutes... superb quite simply, happy owner of a 1500 for 1 year and a half, everything is easy. After owning two 1100s (goldwing of course), it would be very hard to go backwards and unlikely to go forwards (1800) Rating : 5/5

I've been riding a Gold 1500 for over 5 years and I wouldn't trade it in for the 1800, or any other for that matter, just for its looks and comfort. It's true that the windscreen is a problem when it's raining, or you have to go over 140 km/h on the freeway to see anything, but the danger and the radars are waiting for you lol

Yes, it's a great bike. I've owned it since 1989, and I'm still delighted to ride it. We've now done 155,000 km together, and there's more to come. The only modifications, change of front suspension springs (progressive) + air kit, and inflatable rear suspension (kit) => road holding on rails (no more waves)
We often leave with tent etc... (Sylger-Design trailer) without fatigue or stress
After trying it out, the 1800 has an excellent engine/frame combo, great braking, but comfort and protection are a step down => I'm keeping the 1500
I wish you all a pleasant ride.

It's not a bike for the young and impetuous. It's a machine for older riders who like to ride, enjoy the great outdoors and are comfortable. There's plenty of room for luggage and unrivalled comfort for the passenger. Few people with a Gold go to see another brand, and the few who do come back. This is the best proof. Rating : 5/5
