presentation of the Desmo250 MX 2026
Ducati entered the motocross scene with a 450 that was highly competitive right from the start and has since been making rapid strides in the off-road sector. Now it’s the 2½’s turn to make its debut, with some compelling features.
Like all Ducatis, the Desmo250 MX has its roots in racing, where the Borgo Panigale-based manufacturer tests solutions that are then made available to enthusiasts on production bikes. It was developed on the tracks of the Italian Prestige MX2 Championship by Alessandro Lupino and inherits the strengths of the Desmo450 MX: precision, control, and reliability—all put to the test in the most competitive segment of motocross, where the bike makes all the difference.
A desmodromic single-cylinder engine that revs to 15,000 rpm
At the heart of the Desmo250 MX lies an engine that is entirely new down to the smallest detail: compact, lightweight (24.7 kg), and powerful, it delivers 44.5 ch at 12,500 rpm. It was designed based on the experience gained with the Panigale V4 R, with which the Desmo250 MX shares the same bore and stroke dimensions (81 x 48.4 mm) as well as some of the most advanced technical solutions. Fluid dynamics, intake and exhaust port geometry, valve timing profiles, and flywheel mass were developed to meet the specific demands of motocross: an engine designed to deliver power at every stage of riding. The goal was to achieve a sustained and balanced torque curve across the entire rpm range, with responsiveness at low rpm and high-rpm power capable of leveraging the advantages of the desmodromic system at all decisive moments of the race: the start, corner exits, and over-revving. Situations where every tenth of a second makes a difference.
Here, the desmo system reaches its full potential on the Desmo250 MX. Titanium intake valves, steel exhaust valves, and a level of control precision that allows the engine to rev up to 15,000 rpm. A new benchmark for the class, allowing riders to stay in each gear longer.
The engine is fed by a 44 mm Mikuni throttle body. The exhaust system is entirely new, designed to optimize performance and handling while complying with international competition noise regulations. The package is rounded out by a 5-speed transmission developed specifically for the Desmo250 MX, equipped with a quickshifter (upshift only), and a hydraulically actuated Brembo clutch with a 7-disc clutch assembly and a disc spring. This solution ensures consistently precise and progressive acceleration, capable of withstanding and adapting to the wear typical of this discipline.

Greater confidence on every track
The Desmo250 MX’s chassis is based on the 450’s perimeter frame and aluminum swingarm. Ducati engineers have meticulously optimized stiffness to achieve the best riding feel and offer the rider maximum confidence in all conditions, especially when the 250 is performing at its best: under braking and in corners.
These objectives were also achieved through targeted modifications to the suspension. The Showa fork and monoshock are equipped with a hydraulic system developed specifically for this model, designed to achieve a neutral balance that minimizes weight transfer during braking, acceleration, and cornering. The result is an intuitive motorcycle capable of performing at its best on a wide variety of tracks and surfaces, thanks also to a dry weight of just 103 kg
Handling is enhanced by the standard Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tires, which, in addition to offering high grip, ensure optimal responsiveness during direction changes and when entering turns, thanks to the 100/90-19 rear tire.
The braking system is identical to that of the 450: a Brembo system with 260 mm Galfer discs up front and 240 mm discs in the rear. Uncompromising power and modulation, even for 250 riders.

The Italian Touch of Electronics
The Desmo250 MX is equipped with an electronic system directly derived from the one developed for the Desmo450 MX, calibrated and optimized to bring out the best in the 250’s characteristics. Two engine maps, customizable via the X-Link app, allow you to adjust the throttle response. Ducati Traction Control can be set to three levels of intervention, engine braking to two levels, and launch control to three. This allows each rider to adapt the bike to their riding style, the terrain, and racing conditions.
Traction control, in particular, is the most advanced component of the electronic system. Drawing on its experience in MotoGP and Superbike, Ducati has developed a true traction control system, which is covered by a patent. This system enhances rider safety and helps conserve energy while riding, all while contributing to faster lap times. Unlike systems currently available on the market, the Ducati Traction Control (DTC) integrated into the Desmo250 MX modulates power reduction based on the actual slippage of the rear wheel, thus ensuring effective, rapid, and linear intervention.

Predictive Maintenance
Drawing on its racing experience, Ducati Corse has developed a specific algorithm that calculates an engine stress index in real time, based on operating parameters and usage conditions. The system then updates maintenance schedules based on this information, which can be viewed via the Ducati X-Link app.
In this way, inspection and maintenance schedules are tailored to usage patterns, with more frequent service intervals for professional riders or those who ride intensively, and less frequent intervals for amateur riders—going beyond traditional static schedules.
Maintenance for the Desmo250 MX includes two types of service, referred to as “MID” and “FULL.”
The MID service includes checking valve clearance, performed after 45 hours, and replacing the piston, which may be necessary at intervals ranging from 45 to 60 hours, depending on the calculated load.
“FULL” maintenance, which consists of a complete engine overhaul, can generally be performed between 90 and 120 hours, again depending on track conditions and the rider’s riding style.
Availability
The motorcycle will be available at select European dealerships starting in October 2026.
