presentation of the 125 Shadow VT 2004
- Its lines: majestic from every angle, it's one of the most elegant in its category. Over time, its success has led to a very wide choice of colors and finishes, complemented by a large number of options offered by Honda (leather bags in various finishes or color-matched plastics, top cases, footrests or bubbles in a variety of styles, heated handles, etc.);
- Its size: very imposing, it often passes for a larger-displacement machine, which is not unpleasant, an impression confirmed by the sound of the engine. It's one of the few 125cc customs that can be ridden by taller riders who know what it's like to get the handlebars in their knees at every turn;
- Handling: strangely enough, its wingspan doesn't make it any less manoeuvrable than any other bike in its class, and it can even be recommended to beginners. What's more, the riding position is quite comfortable for a custom bike, and the distance between the rear-view mirrors gives good visibility for a motorcycle;
- The engine: once again, the best in its class. Highly resistant, it maintains a cruising speed of 120 km/h (130 with the wind at your back).
Nonetheless, the Shadow 125cc does have its shortcomings:
- The finish: given the very high price for the category, you'd expect to find more chrome. Instead, you'll find mostly aluminum and plastic, which looks like crap when you look closely;
- The fuel tank : apart from its imposing volume, which requires a wide pelvis or a rather flexible straddle, a gauge is sorely lacking;
- Wheels: given its weight and volume, one wonders, after a few emergency braking maneuvers, whether the width of the original wheels is really sufficient;
- The side stand: the total impossibility of adding to it or replacing it with a straight stand makes parking in town difficult, especially in spaces reserved for two-wheelers.
In short, despite a few minor flaws, the Honda Shadow 125cc is truly the star of its class, and a real pleasure to ride, whether in town or in the country.

MANY PEOPLE SAY THAT YOU CAN REACH 100 KM/H... AND some, like you, say at least 120? Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
It still runs very well. Maintenance not expensive. Above all, use the right oil ... and check the front brake caliper seals and steering bearings .... term. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Patrick

Merci de vos réponses. Rating : 5/5 Respond to PATOCHE
The Leo Vince makes a nice noise compared to the original, which you can barely hear when they're close together. They don't sound like the same bikes. Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation

Sensational motorcycle, 20,000 km in three years, rides all year round, every day, alone (work) or in a group (Amicale Shadow Bretagne, touring, exhibition, in short, nothing but pleasure with a reliable, sober, fun motorcycle, sufficiently responsive on country roads, just a little short on some overtaking and depending on the weather conditions on expressways (strong headwinds)
Ridiculous maintenance costs
low fuel consumption
Multiple modifications possible on this bike!
All in all, a real pleasure to ride!

There are several kits available from Upower
https://www.up-power.eu/modification_170cm3 arbres_a_cames__version_a_carburateur_-shop_view-3-1548.html
The first one improves the air intake nozzle size
The second is a re-bore to 170 cc
The last one adds a modified Honda camshaft to the re-bore.
This is the same kit as on the Varadero
From 15 to 22 hp with increased torque (legally reserved for the track)...

I've just bought a 1999 Shadow125 with 5600km on the clock
As much to say new little driven
The problem is supposedly there, it makes a ragging noise while driving
Honda tells me that it's the kalamine in the pot and that it needs to be replaced 750â'¬ than the part ðŸ˜3 Did you have another obtion?
I have the impression that the noise comes from the front of the engine
They also tell me the bearings of the arbracam to change at 6000km is normal?

I had a Daelim VT 125 and now it's much better! Of course, I don't have an A license
I started late with the 125 (54 years old)
4 years later, I'm still pretty shy on curves (I live in Lozère....)
So, can we lean the beast? Follow the high bikes that take curves with a maximum of angle? Thanks for your advice

(as a final solution, I think I'll have it overhauled from A to Z and tuned for double output by pros... but that'll cost 500/600 euros)
i'm doing between 110 and 115 km/h with the original pots, but I can't hear myself driving
Thanks in advance Rating : 4/5 Respond to geoffrey
It's got looks and style. Low fuel consumption. Very good braking. A little difficult to find neutral.
Too bad we don't see more of them on Brittany's roads. TIP: 125cc enthusiasts, treat yourself to one of these! You won't be disappointed. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Merlinette

I've had a shadow dating from 2000 for 2 years
I'm more into cars, but for a first-timer, it's really great. From what I hear and see, it's the most luxurious and reliable of the 125s. Maintenance is very reasonable, and original parts are easy to find in Marseille
Bonne route a tous au moins les radars avec elle on ne crainte rien... Rating : 5/5 Respond to niko
A real motorcycle, robust, reliable and comfortable, I've crossed France several times without any problems or apprehension, and sometimes in one go (800km) at the pace of a small car. Performance comparable to that of a 2cv6 (for those who have experienced it), but with better acceleration. Comfortable and pleasant to drive, thanks to advanced controls. I don't even see the need to get a driver's license. All I'd gain is power and speed. Is that really reasonable?

I have a Shadow 125, equipped with backrest and saddlebags... it looks great. Living in Switzerland, it's true that mountain passes are a bit tricky... it's just a 125... plus, if you lean too far out, you hit the footrest, whereas the machine doesn't move a muscle, which is its biggest flaw..
Otherwise, what a great way to get started on a Chopper :-)

More like a moped! Comfortable, with plenty of power. But small engine that runs very fast!
Ridiculous moped noise

It's a great machine, very easy to handle and fun to ride
It's just a shame that it's missing a few useful little features, like a fuel gauge, a trunk and a clock
i think that for the price of the bike, the manufacturer could have made a little effort
See you soon, biker friends
