presentation of the FTR 1200 2021

The FTR has understood that to appeal to roadster enthusiasts, it needs to be more incisive. The key is tires. So, the American motorcycle is moving away from its trail-road dimensions to something sportier. All 17 inches, with a good 180 in the rear. She also gets a pair of Metzeler Sportec tires on her feet, but that's not enough; she also changes the geometry of her chassis. Suspension travel has been reduced to 120 mm, the caster angle has been reduced to 25° (-1.3°) and the damping is now fully adjustable. As a result, the FTR is more dynamic and agile.

In addition to the modifications required to pass Euro5, the engine gains the function of automatic deactivation of the rear cylinder at idle to limit overheating. What's less limited, however, is on-board access. With the new suspension, the seat height drops significantly, to 780 mm from the ground. The handlebars are also 40 mm narrower. As a result, the 1200 FTR becomes less of a Flat Track Spirit and more of a roadster. However, the idea of transposing the spirit of the FTR 750, winner of the American AMA Flat Track Championship, into a perfectly wicked road bike is still alive and well. The FTR is another surprising model in Indian's range, a bike that owes nothing to the others, using only the Scout's engine. And even then - with a healthy dose of modifications.

Indian FTR 1200by lengthening the piston bore from 99 to 102 mm, the engine-makers have boosted cubic capacity to 1203 cm3. A good dose of magnesium to keep the weight down, an optimized intake via an air box above the engine, a compression ratio greatly increased to 12.5:1, high-flow cylinder heads, twin throttle bodies and a crankshaft with reduced inertia all change the dimensions of this berlingot. Under the hand, 123 horses are ready to be unleashed, supported by a peak torque of 12.2 mkg. It doesn't yet have the ardor of an Italian or Japanese production, but we're witnessing a real new approach to power. Decades of torque and low-speed pounding will now coexist with watts and high revs.

This time, there's plenty of power in the right hand. But the chassis has to be just right. This is where Indian comes into its own: a completely new chassis. It was out of the question to think of any kind of fun with a custom chassis. So, we put away the knick-knacks, warmed up the grey matter, and voila, the FTR 1200 gets a brand-new tubular steel trellis frame. The stern features a swingarm and suspension setup similar to those on the FTR 750 racing bike. Striking! The fuel tank is tucked under the seat to lower the center of gravity. Upstream, a 43 mm inverted fork and 4-piston Brembo radial calipers are fitted.
The FTR is sporty, but not radical. A still-wise wheelbase of 1,525 mm (a 1200 Monster is 1,485 mm) and a dry weight of 233 kilos prevent it from being seen as a sultry machine... but already pretty wild for an American. Play, gas and provocation are clearly part of the brief.

Indian FTR 1200let's return for a moment to the basics, to the look, to the first glance. This Indian's style is striking. It has no desire to remain calm, and its only regret is the imposition of a huge exhaust system. A certain style saves face. The left side of the machine is much more airy.
The FTR 1200's cockpit is uncluttered. ProTaper aluminum handlebars, a circular tachometer and a digital window - that's it, and that's enough.
It's much more enticing on the lighting side. The taillight displays a strong identity in its illumination. The front headlamp unit, on the other hand, is totally unconventional. Round in shape, it houses a whole array of LEDs with an assertive visual signature.
And let's not forget a little additional driving pleasure. A USB port lets you plug in your GPS or recharge your smartphone. A cruise control system lets you switch to cruising if you prefer the open road to dynamic cornering.

Fallen in love with Flat-Track, the FTR 1200 copies some of its codes for a very special road experience, all new for an Uncle Sam production. The machine is singular, intriguing (in the good sense of the word), and opens the door to a new clientele.
The FTR 1200 is also available in a 70 Kw version that can be limited for A2 license holders. A more premium S version is also available, with more vibrant colors, adapted Ride Command instrumentation, three engine maps, stability control, traction control and anti-wheeling.

DAMAGE DAMAGE
French Juju74 Model 2025
The bike is simply magnificent ... in my eyes it's the most beautiful. Unfortunately ... being a biker who rides ... this one doesn't suit me with its electric city car autonomy ... this bike is perfect for the bobo who wants to show off by crutching his bike while fetching croissants in the morning ... unforgivable mistake Rating : 2/5

Superb bike...but a sorry range (200kms) and that's a shame. A little less weight on the exhaust and a bigger fuel tank would have been great. P Rating : 2/5
Very nice engine, interesting weight and chassis, but a 13-liter fuel tank and the range that goes with it (200km), that's nonsense! At least not for me, and that's a shame. V Rating : 4/5

a fabulous bike, a hybrid, a UFO of its kind, a blend of big off-road trail, roadster and cheeky sportiness.

My test ride ended with an order form, a test ride that was itself initiated by an encounter that just blew my mind!
at wheels and wave in biarritz in 2019, exhibited as a prototype, I'm now the proud owner of an ftr that wasn't at all the kind of brand I'd been considering before, so I've divorced myself from bmw in 12 years of riding ...
My hat's off to you, because that was unthinkable before

no copy with ducat. it's taken from flat racing. i've owned a 1200 xr which was actually ahead of its time when it came out. but still has lousy braking for riding a hd for 20 years. the xr is heavy and doesn't handle well. i also own a 1200 ftr. there's no comparison to be made. it's a totally different universe.nothing to do with an hd. on the other hand, the curves and corners are amazing. ultra kiff. it sticks to the road except with the original mount. i've got 35 years of bottles and 1 million km on the odometer. don't compare bikes but ride them.

Try it out at the dealership, and you'll find it's a very nice bike. They've done a great job of modernizing it, and it's dynamic and quite playful when you play with it and the handlebars. If you're looking for a bike to ride like a scout, don't bother looking at this one, it's another world

at first glance it reminds me of the DUCATI scrambler,,,,,,,the mill must be nice in 120 hp ,,, well seen the touch screen to see with winter gloves,,,,,the pots are ugly,,,
what can I say about the pricing policy, which is very similar to Triumph , Norton ,,,,,
in short,,, I'm keeping my money and my old 955 triumph
