presentation of the 790 Duke 2024
The 790 Duke has a two-stage career. Born at the end of 2017, it was weighed down by the 890 in 2021..... then waited a while..... and returned to the market in mid-2022.
KTM has put it back on the market with new arguments, but... what are they? How do you make a place for yourself when you've got the same face, the same physique, the same technology and the same audience........... with less displacement and power?
That's the problem, and the solution in the same pot. The 790 Duke as we've rediscovered it is a continuation of the old L version, designed for A2 license holders. Apart from an extra 8 kilos and adaptation to Euro5, it differs little from the first model, except that it is now produced in China. This is one of the fruits of the partnership with CF Moto.
From here, it's easy to see why it's back in the Katoche Naked range. Powerful, the machine offers 105 hp in most parts of the world, except in Europe, where its hara is reduced to 95 hp. With this level of power, it forms a sort of bridge between the 390and the 890.
Not quite the middle ground. There's a 51-horsepower gap between the little Dukeand the 790, while the latter gives back only 10 hp to its "big" sister. So it's hardly a beginner's bike, except when limited to 35 kW.
Which raises another question. The 890 was also available in an L version, suitable for any castration required. So is the spectre back? Why?
Because the 890 L has disappeared from the catalog. A sort of game of musical chairs, punctuated by a shock argument: the price! Between the two roadsters, the match will be played on watts, but also on the big difference in price. A difference of almost 2,000 euros - in exchange for a fuller engine and less rigorous suspension. These aren't foam legs, either. It's just that the first 790 Duke didn't offer as much rigor as we'd hoped. The bike incited attack, virulent and motivated, fun and angry; but the suspension could barely keep up.

A Race riding mode, engine braking control, cruise control, KTM My Ride smartphone app and tire pressure monitoring are also waiting in the wings, while the Powerparts section offers a whole host of parts.
So, the 790 Duke wants to make a name for itself in the big poker game played by mid-size streetfighters. It's no easy task, given all the hotshots already on the scene and the snarling atmosphere of the sector. But with its price tag, it's a sobering one - almost identical to that of a 750 Hornet, a 660 Trident or an F 900 R.
Be that as it may, the 790 and 890 won't be buddies for long at the KTM table. Two sisters, two hearts, on the verge of resentment.

i'm having trouble understanding KTM's sales policy
i was going for an 890 duke, and I learn that for less money
i've got a 790. Rating : 5/5 Respond to x974
The return of the 790 (Duke and Adventure) at a knock-down price is simple, the 790 is made in China since 2021 in the new factory built in partnership with CF Moto, while the 890s are made in Austria, a big delta on the cost price....I'm going to replace my 30,000km 790 Adventure (no shit) with the new 890
It also allows KTM to do away with the 890 L (A2 adjustable)

On the MT 07 side ?? CLEAR!
So ok the MT 07 isn't popular in terms of image, but Yamaha is RELIABLE ;)
It breaks my heart because I love the look and ride of the 790 duke, but my reason makes me choose the one I like least in twin-cylinder form... Rating : 1/5 Respond to vilto

I've owned this bike since it came out (April 2018) and I've only had one problem since it came out. I solved this problem by changing the front cartridge and the rear element, which I have done on every bike I have owned. There have also been a few leaks which have all been taken under warranty by ktm. This bike's strong points: agility and roadholding, racy engine character, ridiculously low fuel consumption and high-performance electronics. Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
790 duke for 2-up riding and 1290r for solo riding.
the 790 on july 15 was about 9700â'¬, i changed the original tires for M7RR.
this bike is brilliant, amazingly easy to handle, and the shifter is just crazy.
in 2006, i was riding a zx9r, which is zero compared to the 790, and we're not talking about the superduke 1290r .... Rating : 4/5 Respond to kiki03
What a pleasure! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Eric
The engine... I don't know if it's the design or the gearbox ratios, but there's not much at the bottom and it suddenly starts to rev in the middle of the rev count... cool, you might say... except that the rev limiter suddenly arrives and cuts off your smile at barely 2000 revs higher! Ahhh frustration!!! Barely enough time to put the handle in the corner to shift up! It's a good thing the shifter works wonders...
As for agility, there's nothing to say, it's easier to handle than my street bike, probably thanks to the more natural, supermot-like riding position.
In the end, I didn't sign up for it. Despite my desire for a bike that's more fun and more livable than the street, which pulls long and pushes you to ride too hard to have fun, this one pulls really (too?) short. I'm waiting to see the R version of the big sister and its price tag, if it arrives soon. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Bapts
just for that, I'm more interested! Rating : 2/5 Respond to jey12
