presentation of the 125 Seventy 2015

It starts with a name that sounds like something out of a Beatles hit. Mash Seventy. This little 125 doesn't just have a cute little face. It's also got a serious track record of success in its sector. In the space of just a few years, it's managed to put the CBF, Duke and YBR stars of the market to shame. Basically, a Chinese motorcycle, built by Qingqi to French specifications. A guarantee? Not necessarily. But the iPhone is made in China, isn't it?
Let's forget this parenthesis and turn our attention to this little French motorcycle, with its Sino-manufactured blood and false hints of American nostalgia. A basic 125 is prized for its utility; with Mash, it wants to be desirable.

underneath, the machine's design is very simple. The sweets of technology seem to have stalled long ago. In the steel cradle frame sits a sweet little 124 cm3 single. Air-cooled, single ACT, 2-valve, single carburetor, and just over 11 horsepower to go around - 11.6 hp at 8750 rpm. Nothing to go crazy about in terms of performance; the machine is content to orbit at around 100 km/h.
But the real strength of this 125 Seventy lies in its striking looks. A seductive vintage look is fashionable, and will always retain its charm. With its orange coloring and checkerboard trim, the Mash has a cool tracker look. The fake single-seater seat, sausage pot and spoked rims complete the look. With all this, you'll immediately want to take to the hills. And if you want to play the English-boy, it's hard, if not impossible, to find a better bike for the price. At less than 2000 euros, the Mash Seventy is unbeatable for its style/price/vintage ratio.

it looks basic, yet hides many surprises. There's a single speedometer, with needle, speed, trips... and a gear indicator. The engine is based on Suzuki technology dating back to the Greek calendars, in this case that of the GN 125. But it consumes very little fuel and has the luxury of an electric starter and kick. The braking system, with its single 220 mm disc and rear drum, is decent, but not spectacular. As for the chassis and suspension components, they're basic enough for everyday riding. A small fork and 2 side shocks, a low-cost version. Don't look for a big rhythm, it's not made for that.
Small and mischievous, the bike weighs no more than 100 kilos dry. With its 780 mm seat height, slim tires (90 at the front, 120 at the rear) and wasp-like frame, the 125 Seventy has no fear of twirling through the streets.

since its introduction, the Mash 125 Seventy has gone from strength to strength. It does, however, have a few bugs to pick, such as reports of rust on early vintages, engine stalling and vibration, and a few loose parts. These could be described as teething problems. A new brand is never irreproachable from the outset. To be confirmed over time.
No fuel gauge, a choke on the carburetor, a fuel tap - what a change of scenery. The kind of little obligations that we can either complain about, or credit to the allèches of yesteryear. Modern motorcycles no longer allow us to savor the joy of passing the reserve with a frozen hand when you're on the highway. This is of no importance whatsoever for bucolic daily life or country jaunts. A little starlet in the making, and a breath of fresh air in the category.
