presentation of the Seiemmezzo 650 STR 2023

founded in 1937 in Bologna, Italy, the Moto Morini brand has been owned since 2019 by the Chinese Zhongneng Group, better known in Europe as Znen Motor. At the last Milan Motor Show, in November 2021, Moto Morini unveiled a long-awaited motorcycle: the new Seiemmezzo. An Italian name meaning six and a half, a nod to the famous Moto Morini 3 1/2, released in 1971 and one of the brand's most famous models.

this roadster, with its elegant but not excessive neo-retro look, is available in two versions: STR for the on-road model (Strada) and SCR for the more off-road version (Scrambler).

all Seiemmezzo models are powered by a 649 cm3 liquid-cooled in-line twin-cylinder engine. This classic mechanical architecture develops 60 hp at 8,250 rpm and 54 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. With overhead camshaft and four valves per cylinder, as well as Bosch electronic fuel injection, the 6 ½ Morini is claimed to have a top speed of 175 km/h. Naturally, this new Sino-Italian meets the new Euro 5 anti-pollution standards.

with a dry weight of 200 kg and a seat height of 810 mm, it should be easy to handle. Even with its 15-liter fuel tank. The chassis consists of a tubular steel frame anchored by an aluminum swingarm. Well-equipped, the front features a 43 mm Kayaba inverted fork with 120 mm travel. At the rear, the same equipment manufacturer supplies the monoshock with the same travel as the front. Moto Morini also announces that these suspensions are adjustable

in terms of braking, the Seiemmezzo calls on Italian manufacturer Brembo to supply a pair of 298 mm-diameter discs, pinched by classic two-piston floating calipers. As for ABS, the Bosch 9.1 Mb system has been entrusted with the task. The Seiemmezzo STR is fitted with spoked wheels, while the SCR is equipped with a pair of spoke rims. Tire dimensions remain reasonable, with 120/70 x 18 at the front and 160/60x17 at the rear. From the outset, this 6 ½ " model comes with Pirelli MT60RS tires

refined , this Morini features an LED headlamp and a 5-inch TFT display. The Seiemmezzo's refinements include backlit controls and Bluetooth connectivity.

with its sleek, sexy looks, this beautiful little 6 ½ should find takers, especially as its price is closer to that of a 500 than a 650.

Well, but...
French sixetdemie Model 2022
The bike is very attractive, short and compact, with a high-quality finish (nice instrument panel, aviation-style hoses, etc.), and it strikes a balance between stability and precision; the frame and suspension setup (Marzochi, I believe) is excellent.
The Brembo brakes are particularly pleasant to use—powerful and easy to modulate—especially at the front, though the rear pedal travel is a bit too short.
The bike is agile, easy to handle, and a real pleasure to ride. The tires (Pirelli Angel GT) are top-notch, and you can take winding roads dynamically with real enjoyment.
The seat height (810 mm) is absolutely no problem; when stopped, I can put both feet flat on the ground at 5’8” tall and stocky.
The approx. 220 kg (kerb weight) isn’t felt at all; the bike remains light.
The turning radius poses no problem when making U-turns.
The clutch is smooth, and gear changes are remarkably fluid.
Low-end torque is adequate but nothing special; in the city, let’s just say that below 3,000 RPM, it’s not up to the task.
On the other hand, the engine makes a “mechanical noise” that is anything but glamorous. I’m still breaking it in (limited to 5,500 RPM) and it’s frankly awful; I hope it’ll sing a bit more at higher RPMs... But for now, it’s boring as hell, and I doubt it’ll change much as it ages. That’s really its biggest flaw, and it’s very frustrating given the bike’s other qualities, which could handle a livelier engine.
The first three gears are too close together, which forces you to shift unnecessarily.
One last downside, in my opinion: comfort.
The suspension is firm (though adjustable) and becomes uncomfortable on bumpy roads, and the seat lacks cushioning.
After 150 km, my back and buttocks are begging for a quick rest stop!
One last thing about my STR: the wind protection is amazing (much better than on my Guzzis with their stock windshields).
At 130 km/h, there’s no wind resistance on the arms, and the pressure on the helmet is very manageable.
These are just first impressions, and some things can surely be improved in terms of suspension settings (or my old behind)... others cannot.
