presentation of the 850 V7 Stone 2021

Moto-Guzzi celebrates its centenary in 2021. The V7 is the first model to receive a present. And a fine one at that: a bigger engine, more watts and a dose of extra high-tech.

This bike is now in its4thgeneration since its rebirth in 2007. We've come a long way since 1966 and the very first V7, which at the time produced around forty horsepower. Half a century has flown by, with the passion of time as referee, up to version III of the little Guzzi. Until yesterday, this version offered 52 horsepower. Now, the teenager is having a crisis, and it's going to show.

The pace heats up with a new twin derived from that of the V 85 TT. The cylinder heads are almost 100 cm3 larger, with spectacular results. 25% more power! This retro roadster now develops 65 bhp at 6,800 rpm, i.e. 13 bhp more; to be fetched just 600 revolutions later. It's even more torquey. From 60 Nm, the maximum is 73 Nm. This corresponds to 7.5 mkg, obtained at 5,000 rpm - again, just a little higher than on theex 750.
From 3,000 rpm, 80% of the torque is available.

A considerable advance for the V7, even if in absolute terms the values remain on a different scale from those of more powerful engines. 76 hp/liter and less than 9 Nm per 100 cm3 are Harley outputs. But that's not the point: with the Guzzi, the important thing is not the performance ratio, but how the power is distributed. With the character of its cylinder heads at the kneecaps, by its ventricles in love with air and fuel, when the crankshaft accompanies the connecting rods instead of yelling at them.

Moto-Guzzi 850 V7 IV 2021 - compteur dgital with such an increase in displacement, the V7 could have changed its name. But no, it retains its nostalgic name. All the more so as the V9 family should not be overshadowed. This engine makes it possible to have a big V7, and to pass Euro5 more smoothly. Revising the 7 and a half to make it compatible with the standards would have been more restrictive.
Young license holders will be pleased: this mill is also available in A2.

Based on engine appearance alone, it's hard to tell a V7 850 from a 750. The line, the patina, the bottle still smell as much of the Italian countryside and its aromatic herbs. Yet the details are all there: new rims, a wider rear tire (150 mm), a shorter rear mudguard adorned with a redesigned headlight, tapered turn signals, a new two-tier seat, revised airbox covers, a revised exhaust system, new footpegs and a thoroughly modern face.

The round headlamp has retained its right to remain, except for an exuberant DRL light signature. The eagle, the firm's emblem, generously takes over the headlamp, extending its wings beyond the circumference. The V7 is proud and assertive, and claims its Stone version as the most high-tech. The Special gets a more classic-looking headlamp, but both are illuminated by LEDs.
The same applies to the dashboard. Here, it's a full digital instrument panel right under the rider's nose. Liquid crystals have conquered the field, with the mission of displaying the essentials and a hair's breadth of superfluous information. RPM, speed, gear engaged, odometer trips, outside temperature, and a small icon for traction control. The V7 III already had it; it continues its career with a few more nags to manage. Still, not enough to overwhelm it..

Moto-Guzzi 850 V7 IV 2021 enough , however, for Guzzi to rework the chassis. The front part of the frame is reinforced, the cardan drive is lengthened and new, stronger Kayaba amortos are fitted. Braking is identical, with one disc and one caliper per wheel. As usual, the V7 is the only one in its segment to feature a universal joint.

riding a Guzzi V7 is the opposite of riding an excited roadster. It's all about the pleasure of riding. With a little more breath and heart once you're behind the handlebars of Episode IV.
Yes, it's more expensive and less powerful than an MT-07. Yes, it's far from ideal for stunt riding. Yes, it smells of the past right down to the rocker arms. No, it doesn't sell dreams; it's just charming.

Great gimbal. Afraid that the center of gravity is high given the engine design... Looking for HD-like stability... Rating : 3/5

My first Guzzi was in '83. A 1000 SP. I had all the misfortunes of the earth with this unreliable machine. Finally, after 40 years with just about everyone, I came back to the eagle of Mandello with this special 850 V7. It has lost the integral braking and the frame so reliable in fast corners. The engine is more refined and progressive, while retaining its character. Braking is a little light for a bike from 2023, and we'd expect a little more from it. The riding position is pleasant and allows you to ride for a long time without suffering. Fuel consumption is reasonable, less than 5 liters, and we appreciate its autonomy with its 20-liter tank. It's suitable for users measuring 1.68m and over. The original Michelin tyres are well adapted. In Duo mode, the shocks quickly reach their limits, and it tends to bounce on speed bumps. In conclusion, it's far from perfect, but when you like it... This Gouzi is a lot of fun. Rating : 3/5
Une belle moto véritablement classique bien homogène et agréable.
French Chrisfer Model 2023
I've owned a V7 850 stone for 20,000km, after 35,000km on a V7 III. This V7 850 is what it looks like, just like its predecessors. A really old bike by design, air-cooled-2-valve/cylinder, 1maneton, which has evolved to keep up with the times (the gearbox could even do with a bit more progress).
It's good in town, on the road, and also on long journeys (avoiding the motorway/wind protection). The engine retains a good character and very decent current performance, engine, brakes, shock absorbers, comfort, agility everything is homogeneous. I'm delighted with it and I'd certainly buy the same one or its replacement.

Maybe a good choice for me too (66 years old, looking for a motorcycle): a simple but sufficient steed, even if it would be better with the power, or at least the torque of the V85tt: but it seems that the V7's torque is a little lower, so this should compensate for that.... the plain paints are nice (the matte black one is top), which makes a change from the current general production... and from Guzzi's V100, whose decos are simply ridiculous, with incomprehensible rim color schemes (and suspensions that are too firm). I've been a motorcyclist since 66 and after several English bikes, then 3 HDs, 1 r69s then TDM (fabulous bike) and finally a 1000 vstrom, I have to accept that at 75 I'm moving on to a cooler motorcycle concept. I've always been seduced by Guzzi, so I'll soon be choosing the V7 stone, my first choice the 85tt, but the years are incompatible with the weight and seat height
The only criticism is that a 2nd disc would be nice, and that the exhaust system should be a 2-in-1 that doesn't rise too high, to make it easier to fit luggage, and perhaps the warning system, which seems to have been forgotten. My beginnings with my English period (7 bikes) are based on the fact that mechanical design interests me, so I'm surprised at how little oil (2L) is needed for this engine to work properly. I've seen an 85tt with an oil cooler, which is certainly a good choice
Well, we're never satisfied.

23,000 kms in 16 months
I use it every day. Economical, less than 4l per 100, quiet, reliable (it's my 3rd Guzzi)
It lacks hazard lights for inter-queues. This machine isn't well enough known.

Maybe my next bike. I've had 3 Guzzi bikes, including a 1993 Calif III with 180,000 km on the handlebars in all weathers, summer and winter, with journeys of over 830 km in a day over 7-8 years. A motorcyclist with an A licence for 57 years, I'm currently riding a HD Softail Standard 1745 cm3 in stage 1, before which I was on a V7 Special. Rating : 5/5
French Model 2021
I've taken the plunge. I ride a V7 stone
It's so easy to drive! It angles itself, it responds and it obeys my every command. It's light, maneuverable and works really well as a duo. What's more, it's very affordable
1 hiccup: the sound level is a bit low for a Guzzi, probably due to the euro5 standard.
