You've probably never heard of Murtas. In a field where electric two-wheelers are mainly of interest to commuters, and where the major manufacturers are struggling to come up with a satisfactory solution, it's only natural that this small company isn't in the news.
For now, Car Murtas has just achieved a Bob Morane feat. Its TX trail bike has just broken a world record, ushering in a new era for electric motorcycles:
17,000 km across Africa, without gasoline or assistance!
Riding this Murtas TX, specially designed to take up this extraordinary challenge, the great reporter Claudio von Planta covered 17,000 km from Morocco to South Africa, without any assistance and in total energy autonomy.
A motorcycle designed for the impossible
The result of several years' research, the TX is a concentrate of innovation: robust, autonomous and 100% electric, it is recharged by foldable solar panels carried by the rider, ensuring total energy autonomy. Designed for extreme environments, it crossed 16 African countries, tackling scorching deserts, mountain roads, tropical forests and dusty tracks, without ever using a single drop of fuel.
A pioneering expedition to rethink global mobility
This record was set as part of the Croisière Verte, organized with the support of Citroën, which also took four small electric Ami cars to Cape Town. But never before had a motorcycle accomplished this feat in such conditions.
With this life-size demonstration, Murtas proves that electric mobility is ready for the greatest challenges. The TX aims to become a symbol of what the future of transport could be: clean, autonomous and reliable.
The French brand does not specify how much time each day the driver has to devote to solar recharging.
The model presented in the catalog requires 2.5 hours on a domestic socket or adapted charging point, giving it up to 110 km of autonomy. In cool conditions, the range drops to 50 km for sporty use. With just 118 kilos and a top speed of 110 km/h, its dimensions are fairly close to those of an urban trail bike or even a 125 or 250. But with 350 nm of Nm, it has as much torque as a very large displacement.
An inspiration for reinventing mobility
Beyond its technical prowess, this expedition demonstrates that it is now possible to rethink mobility on a large scale, with total autonomy and zero carbon impact. The TX has attracted a great deal of interest for its potential use in remote or hard-to-reach areas, offering a concrete vision of a more sober, intelligent and accessible energy future.
