News Triumph is upgrading its 3-cylinder engine for the 2027 Moto2 Championship.

Triumph has been powering the Moto2 World Championship since 2019; this announcement marks a key milestone in the partnership between the British brand and MotoGP. Representing a significant step forward for the class, this new, more powerful race engine will make its debut on the starting grid in 2027.

Over the years, Triumph and MotoGP have taken this intermediate class to the next level with the introduction of engines derived from the Street Triple 765 RS. Analysis of data collected over a total of 1,926,132 km and direct feedback from riders have helped optimize the Triumph package.

More Power

The focus has been on increasing the airflow into the cylinders. A new cylinder head—featuring a completely redesigned low-inertia valve train, higher-flow intake ports, and a redesigned combustion chamber—enables a higher compression ratio as well as increased torque across the entire rpm range.

Triumph has also redesigned the crankcases and all internal components to handle this extra power and torque, ensuring maximum reliability once the engine is on the track. All of these modifications have also reduced the total weight by 2 kg. Everything has been reoptimized with a single goal in mind: enhanced performance to usher in a new era in the intermediate class of motorcycle racing.

This more powerful three-cylinder engine delivers an increase of approximately 6% in maximum power and features an increase in displacement; additional technical details will be announced shortly.

The introduction of this new engine will also have implications for chassis manufacturers, who will need to design entirely new frames for 2027, particularly regarding the positioning of the air intake and the engine mounting points.

Collaboration with chassis manufacturers has been underway for a year, with Triumph providing them with all the necessary information. The new engine will soon be made available to Moto2 teams, and private testing is currently underway ahead of its track debut later this year.

For the general public and production motorcycles, this development suggests that the Street Triple will soon be updated, featuring a next-generation engine that will deliver even greater performance to this already formidable roadster.
