presentation of the DR 650 SE 2003
the trail concept is evolving, being transformed and enriched, at the risk of losing its original spirit. Whether on-road, GT or enduro, the fact remains that fewer and fewer manufacturers are defending the principle of the big, simple, versatile trail bike. Like the 600 XT, Suzuki's DR 650 continues to keep the flame alive, and in a beautiful way. Flattering in its lightness and agility, this single-mode trail bike is as seductive as it is delightful. With its long-travel suspension (which can be lowered to reduce saddle height), the machine is perfectly capable of taking on rough roads. The brakes are powerful but not too aggressive. The engine is efficient and doesn't vibrate too much. There's nothing to stop you venturing out on the road, provided you're reasonable. Very limited protection, not very soft seat, limited range - you'd better live not far from the sea if you want to go there. If we smile at the presence of a luggage rack as standard, will we forgive the absence of a tachometer? Let's be fair. For a contained budget, the DR 650 offers us the dapper, jovial feel of a trail bike that's simple, playful and modern. Too bad the competition isn't paying more attention to this niche. So much the better for Suzuki, which is playing it cool with this bike, one of the best of its kind.

Bought new in Noumea NC!
I just got out of an XT 750 YAM ! it goes everywhere river ,excellent trail ! imported in France in 2011 it has 10000 km and is very reliable low maintenance ! I find it hard to part with it like my JEEP Wrangler ! it runs on SP90 E1O since yesterday at 50% … it will stay in the family for my 11 year old grandson… who also loves it
She often helps me out and weaves her way around town and through traffic jams
! let's just say it's got the love factor

-a modern sportster sold (too much electronics and injection)
- a resold KTM 690 smc r (very good bike, but reliability not Max and heats up very quickly, then not made for cool riding)
- Yamaha fz6 s2 resold (flexible, safe, reliable, powerful .....but terribly boring and characterless)
- another sportster this time in carbu ...but nothing to do
i'm back to my first love: THE DR

Everything has already been said about this super bike, I've got 65,000km on the clock: 0 boredom! I use it 50%TT, 50%road, 14-tooth sprocket.
It's the ultimate anti-radar bike, because where you really have fun with it, there's never a cop around! Rating : 5/5 Respond to 3pistons

However, like other bikers, I regret the low range, the somewhat hard seat and, above all, the absence of a rev counter. You have to learn to change gears when you hear the noise, it's a matter of getting used to it. I had a 600 XT and the weight saving with the suz is 20 KG, which is quite something, especially for stationary handling.
Have a nice trip. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Daniel
strong points: economy of use, inexpensive tires, handling and roadholding, maneuverability
weak points: clutch a little "light", especially when hot, difficult to start after 5 days of non-use, a certain lack of flexibility at low speeds (under 3000rpm), original exhaust (double) a little hardware
All in all, the balance is very positive. It's a strong machine!

- Open the fuel tap.
- Kick the throttle three times with the ignition off.
- Turn on the ignition and open the throttle to ~1/8 turn.
- Kick the throttle hard: "Pom! Pom! Pom!" ;o)
Starting a very hot engine:
- Open the throttle fully, without turning on the ignition.
- Kick the starter three times.
- Turn on the ignition, throttle at ~1/8 turn.
- Give a strong kick: "Pom! Pom! Pom!"

i made the airbox mods plus the modified ignition camshaft and big carburetor
on the dyno, it produces 57 hp and a top speed of 185 km/h (1000 gsxr speedo)
in addition, with the crd stainless steel line, it's a real pleasure to drive, and I recommend it to those who want to have fun at a lower cost
