Motorcycle specifications Triumph1700 Thunderbird LT 2015 England invites itself onto the highways
presentation of the 1700 Thunderbird LT 2015
the Rocket III Touring looked a bit big for custom travel. Admittedly, the machine was noble as well as statuesque, with a huge engine. But something more accessible was missing from the Triumph range. The English manufacturer fills this gap with the 1700 Thunderbird LT. For Light Touring. By this we mean that the big British custom bike is properly equipped with accessories for touring, without becoming a road-going vessel like the Electra Glide or Victory Vision. It's all about nostalgia and the perfect cruiser kit.
style runs through the bike from one end to the other of its 254 cm length. Chrome galore, a large windscreen and removable leather saddlebags, a sissy-bar to finish off a dual-density seat that's more welcoming than the standard Thunderbird's, an American-style headlight ramp, wide aluminum footrests and beautiful spoked wheels surrounded by whitewall tires. Anecdote: Triumph wanted gumshoes that performed better than those normally fitted to this type of motorcycle. So he asked Avon to create specific tires; the Thunderbird LT is the only machine whose whitewall tires have a radial carcass. A world first.
the LT shares the same base as the Commander, with the big parallel twin in 1699 cm3 version producing 94 hp and 15.3 mkg to lift a mass of 380 kilos. Beyond the 47 mm fork, the front tire puts the machine on the road: a 150, or 25% wider than the majority of motorcycles on the road. At 180 mm, the rear tire is more conventional. Braking is assured by 3 x 310 mm discs and ABS as standard. The transmission is American-style, with a large belt for smooth, virtually maintenance-free operation. And just as well, since this bike is built for wide-open spaces, its 22-liter fuel tank means you'll already be able to cover a lot of ground.
the two-tone paintwork is a real eye-catcher, and the bike exudes an elegant road mania. With its parallel-twin engine, the Thunderbird 1700 LT stands out from the already focused competition. Kawasaki VN 1700 Classic Tourer, Harley Softail Heritage or Road king, and ex-VictoryCross Roads Classic rely on an unshakeable and customary V-twin.

For me, this bike is superb, but the rear braking is ineffective, and the AVON tires are like soap on wet roads!
I've just done 2600 Kms in 10 days of vacation, and the rear tire is at the end of its tether!
Are there any other tires (with white sidewalls or not) of the same dimensions that are more reliable?
Thanks for your advice Rating : 4/5 Respond to lauraffin68
Motomove, Limoges made a big deal of selling me a blue and white one..... As I held out, they said they'd found one in Germany that they were repatriating..... and I'd be the only one according to them to have a black and white one in France.
So, according to you, they're liars???

I've had a Thunderbird 1700 for 3 years, perfect bike except for the annoying noise of the fuel pump, I've already had it changed 1 time and it's identical (is it the same on the 2014 models?? ) Rating : 4/5 Respond to DEDE
exemplary handling in the wet! one more star compared to my first comment.
my sds is an angel compared to the xt1200z.

lockable panniers?...it's useless...a cutter stroke on the straps and hop...owner of this machine for 3 weeks (3500 kms on the odometer)1m90 for 110 kg, after ten hours of riding in a row without any problem (not even a sore ass or back)I realize that its major flaw is the lack of accessibility to adjust the amortos easily (duo). i haven't ridden it in the rain yet, so I don't know how well the nx avon holds up in the wet, and I'm especially apprehensive about the torque, which I'll have to measure out carefully... footpegs touch easily in hairpins. then brittany in the sun too. 3700 km in 15 days, not counting the 1600km round trip to start the vacation. in short: comfortable upholstery for 2. handlebar controls. suspension a bit soft for 2, but after removing the saddlebags. move up 2 notches in the direction of the arrow and everything's back in order.

What about the capacity of the saddlebags and their aesthetics when viewed from 3/4 front, the ease with which the speedometer can be read, and the shape of the handlebars?
Thank you for answering my question, although you may think that this machine will probably be my next one. Rating : 4/5 Respond to bernica
the saddlebags are about forty liters and come with a soft carrying bag. plastic closure ( bof ) on the other hand, super leather.
the speedo is very easy to read, a little shiny in bright sunlight at the back, normal with chrome, handlebar controls for km covered, km remaining depending on consumption, clock. the handlebars are well positioned for my height (1.78cm), not tiring on the grips and arms.
very comfortable, padded seat and effective backrest. great torque for overtaking.
i hope I've answered all your questions.
best regards. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
I'm looking for a new bike and have selected three: Harley Road King, Triumph Commander and Kawasaki VN1700 Tourer.
I've tried the first two, and now have to try the Kawasaki to make up my mind. For the moment, the Triumph is in the lead.
After a month's use, do you have any comments on the LT (good or bad)?
