presentation of the 1050 Tiger Sport 2019
a most interesting episode for the Triumph 1050 Tiger Sport. A sporty trail bike since the 1200 Explorer took over the reins of the GT adventure, this machine had a bit of an "ass between two chairs" until the recent advent of crossovers. Yesterday, it was too sporty for a trail, and too traily to be sporty... Today, it can trumpet and even boast between the segment's troublemakers, wedging itself squarely between the Yamaha Tracer and the BMW S 1000 XR. A benefactor upgrade in 2016 has given it response, marked added value, and full power.
when Euro4 hit, the first iteration of the Tiger Sport gave way to a version benefiting from a host of evolutions, straight from the Speed Triple. Including the enchanting 3-cylinder engine that is so much a part of Triumph's personality. Thoroughly revised for the roadster, this block has been toned down to suit the Tiger's philosophy, but far from becoming boring. With 126 horsepower and 11 mkg, there's no room for boredom in the Hinckley engine's behavior.
The? Sorry, THE engine behaviors. This redesign is accompanied by a generous injection of electronics. In addition to Ride-by-Wire, the English tiger now offers 3 injection maps. Are you a changeable, playful person? So is the Triumph trail bike. It evolves under the influence of the Rain, Road or Sport riding modes. Each has its own influence on engine response and traction control. This guard-rail is making its debut on the sporty trail bike, and is tending to spread to the whole range. And the motorcycle sector in general.
Still on the subject of thoughtfulness, a limited-slip clutch is fitted. Muscular riding enthusiasts will appreciate this, while tourers will be interested in other treats.
the 1050 Tiger thinks Sport, and for a ride that's both enjoyable and appreciated. It is equipped with cruise control, handguards, an adjustable bubble as standard and... Heated grips were announced as part of the package, but Triumph ultimately left them as an option. Let's come back to the bubble, with its clearly worked-out shapes, which sees its protection reinforced by two lateral and transparent appendices. The price is higher, thanks to this equipment and the reinforced electronics.
The chassis remains unchanged. The Tiger Sport does very well with its aluminum perimeter frame, inverted fork, Nissin 4-piston radial calipers, large 320 mm discs and superb single-sided arm. Last but not least, the seat has been modified for greater comfort, the mirrors have been revised, and the finish is more qualitative, with particular care given to various parts and day dresses. This roadster-trail hybrid is pleasing in many respects, but its price range is a little too high for its class.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 20 reviews
weak points: insufficient protection for all-weather road use, especially around the belly. high fuel consumption when using the full engine speed range. heavy vehicle and high weight. fragile matte black paint. the three driving modes are useless
strengths: engine flexibility. riding position (even if my legs are very bent for a trail bike. I'm only 1.72 m tall). full suspension adjustment. duo and load capacity (I've got a three-case shad pack) Rating : 5/5 Respond to BocTNT
KTM too rough, too high
Versus too heavy, too linear.
XR ... no torque
V store no engine
Multistrada empty at bottom
Stelvio not bad, but full of minor faults.
And then one day you try Triumph
A sporty engine in excellent comfort with good handling and fun from 2000 to 10000 rpm
For the past 4 years, I've been trying out friends' bikes, but I've never found this excellent compromise. I'm keeping my Tiger. Rating : 5/5 Respond to zbf
It's great for two-up travel (17500 km in 3 years), no problems at all, just happiness. Top quality/price. Rating : 5/5 Respond to DOM56
This machine is really pleasant both in terms
comfort and on the road. Very versatile
and with a more generous bubble (like Puig's), it's a total delight. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Tchafo
Unfortunately, I had 5 breakdowns in 3 years:
- 1 blinker out of order at 2,000 km
- 1 cracked hose at 3,500 km
- 1 cracked engine gasket at 8,000 km
- 1 rear wiring harness cut at 20,000 km
- 1 fuel gauge disconnected at 28,000 km.
While the first 4 breakdowns were covered by the warranty, the 5th, which occurred after 2 and a half years, was presented as "normal" because it wears out like the rest... After 30,000 km and 3 years of use, I said stop.
I refused to pay 250 euros for repairs and bought a Honda VFR 800 X in 2017.
The V-tec is fun, it's got a sporty feel that you like to engage when going for the revs, but I miss the maximum torque of the 3-leg at 4,300 rpm.
I'd still have this bike with the turning radius of an aircraft carrier if I hadn't had to take a beating. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Falken
I'm looking for a handy machine (1.70m for 75kg), comfortable to ride solo or with my other half, easy to handle, powerful but above all not a bomb. In short, I'm looking for a grandpa who wants to have fun without being a dodo
Can this beautiful bike meet my expectations?
Thank you in advance for your comments. Rating : 5/5 Respond to jean-luc
50 years old and owner of a Tiger Sport since 2016, I fell in love with it. With the low comfort seat that I recommend (I'm 173 cm tall and have 2 flat feet), it's really top notch. You just have to be careful when maneuvering at low speed, as the weight is quite high. As for the rest, it's an absolute joy to ride, allowing you to cover long distances (10-12 hours on the road). I'd also advise you to look for a different type of tire. In Belgium, they're the standard Pirelli STs, and not very good. I've fitted Roadsmart IIIs and the handling is better... Good luck! does it have cruise control?
what about the suspension?
i know the engine, I had a speed triple 1050 from 2012 and I'm still in love with it. But I think the tiger 1050 is a model that Triumph didn't take too much care of, preferring to invest in other models. It's a shame. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Ale
As far as I'm concerned, a great bike that will replace my 2006 Sprint ST 1050 in a few weeks :)

One thing puzzles me: why isn't such a good bike more common on our roads? Could it be because of the immoderate taste of the French for niponnes? In any case, for those who are looking for a sporty GT with character, but not too much. This English car will make you shiver with pleasure...

With 75000 km now, I'm hesitating to get a new 2018. I'm just a little afraid they'll come out with a new, even better model next year... It's a great bike and, like you, I'm looking forward to getting back on the road with my other half.
Best regards and happy riding. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
