presentation of the 1000 FAZER FZS 2005
the concept is not new, but the realization is tantalizing: the thundering boiler of the R1 hypersport in a Fazer. It's a way of rediscovering the joys of sportiness without the exclusivity. The inspirational 600 Fazer is ultra-famous for its ideal versatility. It's a superb combination of bike-work-sleep, weekend ride, and even a little romp with friends. So imagine this potential with a 1,000...
bold claims rhyme with teasing plumage. The fork head is much prettier and more aggressive than that of the 600, giving the Fazer 1,000 its stylistic identity. The same is true of the rear end, with its two small round lights, very similar to the R1.
the frame is a double cradle made of sturdy 48.5 mm-diameter steel tubes, which house the R1's reworked mill. To adapt it to road use, we changed the intake pipes and carburetors, swapped some magnesium components for aluminum, made the crankshaft heavier, modified the clutch and part of the transmission, etc., etc.... The result: 143 hp, but above all a more usable, more accessible machine.
the Fazer is for the road, not the track; and without control, power is nothing! To the chagrin of those with a passion for sensations, the block has noticeably lost its pistardine explosiveness. The colossal, sensation-providing power has mellowed, but not disappeared. The low-end potato wakes up later, but the potential is there. The suppleness of the 4-leg transforms into a generous thrust at around 3,500 rpm, only to become nasty after 5,000. It's not as violent as the R1, but it's still pretty damn expressive. How will the chassis cope? Perfectly! Comfortably seated in a pleasant, slightly forward-leaning position, you guide the bike with serenity, efficiency and ease. The Fazer's well-designed suspension can be adjusted from all sides, so it's easy to avoid the pitfalls. Spinning and twirling? The imposing, available torque takes care of getting you out of corners with glee. Tightening up? No problem. Braking is just like on the R1, only with different pads. The handling and chassis are as sound as they are thoughtful.
comfort has not been forgotten. The XJR 1,300 may not boast the same dynamic qualities as the R1, but the suspension is a perfect match for the rider's roadholding and complacency. Where we do grumble is on the seat and the bubble, which is cute but more symbolic than protective. For the posterior, the seat is firm, and this could be restrictive if you decide to trim the bollard. The fuel tank is a little hard on the thighs, as well as spreading them apart - that's the fault of the FZS. What's also worrying is the machine's average finish. After fitting the engine, it looks like the engineers didn't quite know where to fit everything else. As for the rest, it's all in the Fazer spirit: easy to handle, full dashboard, Yam gearbox (so "not worse but not better"), versatility and playfulness.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 62 reviews
I bought this bike after selling my africa twin 1000, so it's not the same bike at all. I had a 600 fazer from 2003. The fazer 1000 is something else, you have to hold on to the handlebars, but I like it, it's blue, great condition, I'm starting to get the measure of my bike. The negative is the protection of the bubble, but I'm going to put a higher one on, the heat of the engine in traffic and no abs. The positive is the engine, a bullet, top braking and ease of handling, but I'm 63 so I'm not a novice. Not a bike for beginners bon V A TOUS . Rating : 4/5 Respond to nevers
So mine is
- Full throttle at 143 hp
- AVIA hoses, because even if the original braking system is that of the R1, its power remains good but its feel fades with age
- A Fournalès combination that greatly improves comfort, responsiveness and weight! Flying carpet" effect and hyper-fast or strong rebound depending on inflation. It's great to be able to choose between comfort and grip simply by inflating. I don't think any hydraulic shock absorber can boast such responsiveness. I have the impression that the rear wheel is always well stuck to the ground despite bumps
- When I changed the chain kit, which lasted a good 40,000 km, I decided to go for 6% shorter: 1 tooth less on the PSB and 2 teeth more on the sprocket. It's capable of lifting by itself in a second as long as I turn it dry at over 5,000 rpm
It's a Roadster, and I simply wanted to highlight its Dragster side, because frankly... You can't drive fast anymore, given the repression everywhere..
It's simple: when it comes to 0 to 100, not even recent sports cars or the latest Triumph 1200 RS can match its original 3.1 seconds, which I've dropped by 6% (i.e. just under 3 s ).
It's only on the 100 to 200 that the Triumph really comes into its own... But as we're limited to 130 km/h, there really aren't many wheels that can get past it on the 0 to 130 which is reached... At the end of 1st gear!
No ABS, no electronics, no Launch Control, and yet..
Lithium battery, Fournales and carbon rims could well make this a bike unrivalled in versatility and sportiness, while losing weight.
Only those lucky enough to own one can understand what I'm saying
20 years on, no other machine can compare. This really is a bike that should be considered a collector's item. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Keanus
PSB -1 and small roads are a treat! Don't be afraid of FZs with high mileage: these aren't young riders' bikes, and they're often well-maintained. This is a solid block! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Urbanaud
And no problem unloading the front end at traffic circles or rubbing the footbraces. Mémé is still going strong despite her years
In terms of maintenance, not much to say apart from the overhauls recommended by Yam. The distri was done at 160000, as there was no abnormal wear.
On the other hand, you'll need a carburetor manifold (normal wear). But at this mileage, I can't say I blame him Rating : 5/5 Respond to Bouba
Same impressions, it's a do-it-all machine! With great ease Rating : 5/5 Respond to Sebnantes
I have just bought a 2005 with 45000km in almost new condition. 68 years old and after many motorcycles, I am impressed by the flexibility and at the same time the reactivity of the machine, it sends very strong, super with a seat comfort and despite my 1.87 m good position of legs and arms, consumption + or - 6.5 l on various roads. Only downside, it will have to put a higher bubble because from 120 km / h it is not tenable especially in winter

Exceptional engine !
She's getting a bit tired, it's true, with dips and rpm swings, and has required a lot... a lot of oil !!!!
But 16 years of loyal service and not too expensive maintenance (mainly changing seals and hoses, which are getting old, and that's normal).
On the other hand, I don't agree with what some people say: I'm almost at 9 l/100 km fuel consumption. range barely between 210 and 230 km depending on driving (I almost only drive on freeways (100km/day) and at legal speeds).
the speedo has been partly out of order for quite some time (it's a disease with this model).
As for braking, let's be frank: it's BIG crap! even with bleeding and hose changes, no bite and no feel, soft grip. Not good enough for a 143 hp bike! Rating : 4/5 Respond to greg78440
I was afraid to change my Zs, and didn't like the change, but now I don't regret my choice, even if the Z stands up well.
Mechanically, it's easily accessible, even if you still need to know the ropes.
For those who want an all-round bike, the Fzs 1000 is for them.
And a big plus: this bike is a camel. In mixed conditions, my record is 255 kms on reserve. On the road, 280 kms, reserve not yet lit, and 6l left...... Rating : 5/5 Respond to FazMat27
In terms of maintenance, it's quite affordable if you're a do-it-yourselfer. For the big 40,000 km service, my mechanic charged me less than 400 â'¬, whereas I read that Gilbert paid 870 â'¬ - a real rip-off.
I recommend this bike for those on a budget, and it ages very well if it's well looked after.
Bonne route à tous

Its only fault for me, I'm going to see about changing this dirty saddle! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
No replacement tires. No kit. Neither brakes nor brake pads nor suspension oil nor battery
I think this is the last Yamaha we'll ever buy. I've got a Harley and I've had it serviced for 470 euros. It's no wonder that motorcyclists buy Harleys, given the price of maintenance. Avis a tous fait faire des devis chez starter 84 Honda/yamaha. Because I think they take us for billionaires They can ride Cayenne ?? I'm going to advertise on the forums and social networks Rating : 1/5 Respond to Gilbert
As for the brakes, I think they're top-notch, very good felling, shod in Pilot Road 4 for long-distance road use, and the temperature soon rises, so I can ride it at high speed in the wet without any worries. I've put 8,000 km on them and they're still OK, and the comfort seat has turned it into a GT.
This bike is at ease in all areas compared to the 1200 bandit and zrx that I've had the opportunity to try, that's my opinion.
Its negative point may be that some say it's a bit linear compared with the other two. Rating : 5/5 Respond to serge85
It consumes around 5L/100, has a large fuel tank (400 km range!), is very reliable, has torque, comfort and enough ground clearance to ride hard.
Its only drawback is its weight when stationary. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Julien84
Today it has a special color, 81,000km, bracelets and a full polyester fairing.
NO mechanical problems! If you drive hard, avoid Michelin Pilot Road 2 or 3.
Oil change every 5000km for me, a Fournales behind. An ultra-high bubble.
This bike is very reliable (but check the white electrical plug on the left under the tank, it melts and you have to solder the red wire that comes from the alternator, otherwise you'll break down sooner or later), consumes very little fuel (6L on average), is comfortable alone or in a duo, and protects very well with a thick bubble.
It has a practical center stand, very good suspension for the road (the Fournales makes it even better), is easy to ride and performs well enough.
The same bike at 200kg would be its replacement. Today, I can only think of the Kawa ZX1000 as a replacement, but it doesn't have the practical stand. And it's still heavy. Rating : 5/5 Respond to gloplgop91
The faz 1000 is a two-in-1, whether you start off in pepere mode or in attack mode, you won't be noticed! whether alone or in pairs, it's a fighter jet! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Faz1
thank you... Rating : 5/5 Respond to lolopepone
It's my best bike, we're in 2013, I've had it since early 2005 and I can't think of any other compromise that satisfies me as much as this flawless machine! Fuel consumption between 5l and 6.5l depending on riding style. 21l fuel tank and range well over 300 km! Top speed easily reached over a few km: 250 km/h (for more, you need a lot of space). Not too heavy and comfortable for two. Impeccable duo, impeccable range, super docile under 4000 rpm and super crazy after 7000 rpm. Between 4,000 and 7,000 we're in pre-attack mode. I'm on pilot power front and rear. Very reasonable maintenance costs: a real pleasure.
I'm waiting for the cross plane, but I'm afraid it's going to be more exclusive, and that Yamaha will sacrifice real duo ability to the fashion of the moment, unless they have the intelligence to make an s (fazer) different from the n (naked), especially in terms of seat and tank capacity. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Ghysmo
The 1000 is racy and fluid, sporty and cushy, lively and supple, but above all economical and super reliable!
55.000 km and it purrs like a new cat!
Dedicated to those who want watts without breaking their back with a hyper sport!
It's easy to place, and even forgives a few mistakes - it's a real toy! And when it comes to cornering, I can't even begin to tell you how it handles on a pilot road 3! The more you lay it down, the more it goes; it's just incredible!
If I change it, it's for a 2013 Fazer! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Arcachax
Versatile Supple Pleasant It kicks ass Be careful with the license Correct braking Less power and felling than the ZRX 1100 but that's not the main purpose of this Tomo
A bit greedy on fuel consumption, but that's fine when you like it
The lady has no complaints about comfort

Now I'd like to upgrade it to full-size, but I know nothing about mechanics...

i've got 150,000km on my Fazer, yes a hundred and fifty thousand and all on my ass since 2003, it's a bike I love and no mechanical worries apart from general wear and tear. tires every 6,000km, chain kit every 50-20,000km, and the brakes well not often either lol! Rating : 5/5 Respond to YG

I bought this bike in July 2011, 45.000 Km, first hand, clamped.
Motorcyclist for over 20 years, but without a bike for 6 years, I bought for fun a Yamaha Super Ténéré XTZ 750, obviously, after a few months, I was missing at least 2 cylinders and a handful of nags ...
I was already in love with the Fazer spirit, and then I tried this machine...
A rail-mounted bike, fabulous handling, awesome engine torque, watts everywhere, perfect braking... In fact, an extraordinary bike!
Now I've got 53,000 km on it, unbridled, all-road 3 front and rear, and I don't need to tell you what a beast it is...
Economical, road-going, sporty, easy-going and a great duo, in short, an excellent compromise for those who want to have fun, whether wise or foolish... Rating : 5/5 Respond to arcachax

It's bad enough that we're the only country in Europe to restrict our bikes, but when on top of that, any local can afford a car with as many riders as there are idiots on the road...who are we kidding! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Dark666
