presentation of the 800 FZ8 2010

introducing the latest addition to the Fazer family: the FZ8. Yamaha let us stew for a while before fully revealing its new mid-range toy. First a hint, then stolen photos, then a single shot with no information... What's there to whet our curiosity, or kill the surprise effect? The choice is yours. What's certain is that the newcomer will not stand out from the crowd.

in terms of design, we can't say that Yamaha has taken any risks with this new roadster. It smells like the FZ1 from a mile away. Same chassis, same styling, same inverted forks, same rear end. In other words, the same policy as Kawa with its Z, whose 750 is a reduced clone of the 1000. Well, it's not exactly a copy-paste either. Slight differences can be seen in the airbox cover, the side plastics on the fuel tank and the ridges under the passenger seat - the EXUP has been removed, as have the discreet radiator scoops. The real difference and stylistic identity of the FZ8 is its carefully hooded, aggressive headlight. Supported by the inverted gold fork, the FZ8's front end is no child's play.

the 4-cylinder engine, housed in a large aluminum frame, introduces a new displacement for Yam. At 779 cm3, the FZ8 is right on the 106 hp mark. But what interests us is the torque available with this increase in displacement. The FZ8 puts out 8.4 mkg, i.e. 2 mkg more than the FZ6 and a smidgen more than its main competitor, the Kawasaki Z 750. In the absence of EXUPs, Yam has placed intake cones of different dimensions above the injectors: 125 mm for cylinders 1 and 4, in the center, 150 mm for cylinders 2 and 3. Thanks to the physical properties of pressure waves, these ducts optimize filling and inflate the curves. As for the character of the boiler, it should be quite similar to that of the FZ1. This "little" 800 is a reduction of the 1000 cm3, itself derived from the R1 hypersport. The piston stroke is exactly the same (53.6 mm), while the bore has been reduced by 9 mm to 68 mm. A technical choice that favours torque and its availability. The almost 8-liter airbox is a similar choice.

Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 2Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 2Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 3Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 3Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 4Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 4Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 5Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 5Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 6Yamaha 800 FZ8 2010 - 6

the FZ8's technical platform differs from that of its 1000 sibling only in anecdotal respects. A narrower rear tire, a few kilos less, a smaller fuel tank (- 1 liter) and that's it. The policy of cost rationalization favors cloning, and this FZ8 is really an FZ1 in terms of the chassis. And there's nothing to complain about here. There's not much to complain about here: the diamond-shaped aluminum frame with the engine as stiffener, the 43 mm inverted fork, 4-piston calipers that aren't radial but are very efficient, a superb swingarm... hidden on its right side by a dreadful pan. Admittedly, this is a highly subjective opinion, but without a doubt, it's...

yamaha is taking the opportunity to clean up its roadster range, to make its hierarchy a little clearer. The FZ6s will disappear, the XJ6s will be the stronghold of the entry-level machines; the FZ8s will take care of the mid-range; and for lovers of big horsepower, the FZ1s will sound the charge. This roadster will be in the spotlight and eagerly awaited. On its shoulders weigh the legacy of 250,000 Fazer sales since the model's introduction in 1998. Let's hope it recaptures the fantastic compromise of the first generations of the 600 FZS; since 2004, a sportier trend has been taking hold. How will the FZ8 handle the new decade?

Modèle de transition
French Jeff2A Model 2013
Virtually rushed out in 2010 to compete with the dominance of the Z750, it was only a moderate success, and made us regret the premature demise of the much more assertive FZ6.
Fortunately, Yamaha came up with the MT09 in 2013, which had a far more successful career! That said, the FZ8 is still a very good second-hand bargain, and a very versatile machine, much better finished than the GSR750, which came out a year later but was, alas, a little too sloppy...

Une moto bonne a tout faire
I've owned a 2010 Fz8 S for over 4 years, and it's a good bike in terms of agility. Comfort is average, but the S version has a very good fork head and its bubble is really top-notch in terms of protection at high speeds and in wet weather. The engine is pleasant and smooth, you just have to rev it a little above 4000 rpm for it to show its sporty character. At 106hp, it seems a little short of the competition, but its strong point is its mid-range torque. For me, the two negative points of this Yam are the rear shock absorber, which is far too soft and dangerous at high speeds. I replaced them with ohlins and it's really night and day. Another negative point is the original exhaust pipe, unworthy of a manufacturer like Yamaha. Ugly, rough noise, no aesthetics, a real pot. I replaced it with a Leovince sbk carbon. Finally, it's a good bike for those looking for a compromise between comfort and sportiness. It's got a lot going for it, with its agility and comfortable front forks that do the job in any situation. Rating : 4/5
Quel modèle choisir, FZ8 ou MT07 ?
French Swellendam Model 2016
Hello,
i'm hesitating between 2 models, the MT-07 and the FZ8, both 2016 and new. Having been a fan of the R1, I'd like to switch to a more comfortable machine. What do you recommend if I want to continue riding for pleasure, without covering great distances?

thank you for your advice

French Nico34 Model 2013
I acquired this bike at the end of January 2016, a 2013 blu race ABS with only 1500 kms on the odometer, so practically new ARROW TECH exhaust.
I'd had the precaution of trying it out beforehand in MONTPELLIER (another new one with 1000 kms) and also the Z800, in a dealership in BEZIERS 860 kms or so, so new with IXIL exhaust, which is its main rival.
What I can say, since I've tested both, is that the Z800 has a more powerful engine, fuller, more generous at all revs, and looks great too.
The FZ8 is less flashy, with a less powerful engine, and just 100hp at full throttle (contrary to the 106 claimed, whereas the Z is basically 115). However, in terms of agility, the FZ8 is NETLY more agile, a fact that surprised me during testing and confirmed when I bought it. The FZ8 is less clumsy than the Z.
Why is that?
Well, take the weight of each, the height of each (center of gravity) and you'll have the answer.
In this review, I'm only talking about standard (unimproved) machines.
The choice is yours.........
I'm keeping an eye on the MT 10, which will have no equivalent in terms of full power, since it will be delivered legally in full. We're talking 160hp..........Houaaawwwwwwwwww

I've just acquired the FZ8 and frankly it's a great result, a very good chassis (deltabox) a good riding position, suspension a little stiff... The only hitch is the original muffler, which completely chokes, leaving an inaudible whistling sound.... Rating : 4/5

A good compromise sports roadster, even if the two terms don't necessarily go together, thanks to good stability and interesting comfort, due in particular to the conciliatory suspension, although the seat is not very well designed. The engine is very nice, with decent torque at normal rpm and explosive power at higher revs. The finish is pretty and the overall look rather attractive, encouraging dynamic riding but offering good versatility, especially when equipped. French Cool Dog Model 2011
in my opinion, this bike gives a lot of pleasure for its very low price...I replaced the muffler with the yashimoura model to make the appreciation better and it works.

It responds well in curves and acceleration is acceptable for the 106 HP, however a long use (8h00) becomes difficult to contain the pain of the posterior, the reliable engine and its electronics remains an attout not to be neglected.

really good bike. Pretty good range. Up to 220 km before reserve in normal driving.
