presentation of the XJR 1300 Yard Built -Big Bad Wolf- 2015
Yamaha's Yard Built program has gone from strength to strength, showcasing an impressive range of custom creations built in collaboration with the world's top tuners. This summer, Yamaha teamed up with Spanish tunersEl Solitario to create the latest XJR model of 2015, celebrating 25 years of this iconic machine. The result is an exceptional creation, a racing beast inspired by competition models that lives up to its name: "Big Bad Wolf". Unveiled for the first time at September's Glemseck 101 in Germany, the bike won the 1/8-mile track, ending the reign of reigning champions Lucky Cat Garage.
el Solitario 's "Big Bad Wolf" concludes a year of incredible creations based on the XJR, to mark its anniversary. These include the"Skullmonkee" from Danish tuners Wrenchmonkees, the"CS-06 Dissident" from Portuguese itroCkS!bikes and the"Botafogo N" from Dutch Numbnut Motorcycles, inspired by retro enduro models.
Despite a complete transformation of this urban bike into a race-hungry predator, El Solitario stayed true to the Yard Built spirit and created the "Big Bad Wolf" without cutting or welding the frame of the standard bike. This model shows just how much can be achieved with a little imagination and an XJR 1300.
The end result? The "Big Bad Wolf", or BBW to its friends, was almost entirely customized, with the exception of the frame, tank, handlebars and taillight, for an all-up weight of just 183 kg - 57 kilos less than the standard XJR.
The engine has been redesigned and cylinder head capacities improved. Intake port flow has been optimized by 50%. Compression was increased from 9.7-1 (original) to 10.7-1. Combustion chambers were redesigned and compression zones optimized. Connecting rods were reinforced with titanium bolts and the crankshaft was rebalanced. All electronic systems were removed. State-of-the-art Lectron 42 carburetors were installed, developed especially for the BBW by Lectron Fuel Systems on its aerodynamic test bench, for quick and easy operation on delivery. A programmable Dynatek ignition module was also installed. The unit achieves a maximum output of 148 BHP on the rear wheel.

classic Co. then designed a carbon-fiber rear section, the engine's pneumatic pistons and lower armor, as well as all aluminum brackets for the necessary modifications. British company Dymag developed the carbon-fiber wheels, suitable not only for the BBW but also for the original XJR 1300. ISR's Swedish Acke Rising performed extensive machining onEl Solitario designs to produce custom triple shafts, helical rotors and the incredible rear brake caliper bracket. ISR hand controls were added, as were 6-piston front calipers and a 4-piston ISR rear caliper.
K-Tech Suspension collaborated with Novatech to develop the impressive forks and rear shock absorbers, while Japan's Asahina Racing designed the roaring custom titanium exhaust, suitable for both the BBW and the original XJR 1300. Taleo Racing, a Madrid-based supplier of oil coolers for Moto GP, created the custom semi-circular oil cooler, while France's EMD machined prototypes of the aluminum engine cover, sold by El Solitario for the raw version of the original XJR 1300.
A custom TWM fuel cap locks the tank, and a custom aluminum swingarm by Japan's Over Racing completes the rear section with a set of pedals. The BBW has been wired using Motogadget's M-Unit and uses the M-Lock for starting and stopping. Corona supplied the excellent quick-shift system, and PIAA the ultra-bright headlights.
The BBW sticks to the pavement thanks to Michelin's road, smooth and rain tires, for added pleasure in all conditions. Last but not least, the superb custom paintwork and graphics are the work of London artist Death Spray Custom.
