presentation of the ONE Naked 2017
Holland was home to a handful of motorcycle manufacturers in the twentieth century, all of whom were wiped out like hundreds of others in history. Today, there are none left... but passion has given birth to others. This is where the NXT Motors brand was recently born.
After raising funds on the SYMBID participative platform, the small company is preparing the arrival of an electric motorcycle: the NXT One.
Halfway between a sleek roadster and a Silicon Valley gearbox, this machine is astonishing. The style has the merit of having its own identity. It is presented here in Naked version - a Racer version will be available for those who prefer a sporty riding position. With a view to maintaining a certain level of mystery prior to its grand unveiling at EICMA, NXT has revealed very little about the One.
What will its electric performance be worth? A range of around 200 kms, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, and that's it. Not much to go on. But in the field of electrons and batteries, nothing very original has come out recently on the motorization side.
We know more about the chassis. And the surprises continue. The front, with its 43mm KYB inverted fork and large 310mm discs clamped by Tokico 2-piston radial calipers, is strong. By comparison, the rear is distinctly flimsy, with a simplistic swingarm barely worthy of a 125. But the presence of an Öhlins shock absorber saves the day. The frame is a tubular steel structure to hold it all together, enhanced by wheels with sporty tires and a few carbon parts to cultivate the premium feel. Once in the driver's seat, there's no need to think you're Tron, but you'll be amused by the scattered instrumentation. A needle dial sits in front of the handlebars to monitor speed, while a bar graph on the fuel tank indicates battery charge level. The LED headlight is the latest trend. Round as a classic and packed with technology, it adapts to bends and the bike's inclination.
No gearbox, belt-driven transmission. The rear wheel is directly connected to the engine and throttle. It's impossible to predict how the bike will feel, but it's easy to imagine all kinds of things when you see it. It will be approved as a two-seater, with the option of adding a top-case and side cases.
No price either, but a ceiling of 18,000 euros. As for the sustainability of the project, we'll have to make do with a few market projections. NXT Motors plans to deliver a few units by the end of the year. This should be followed by 600 units over the next 3 years, before ramping up to 1000 machines a year.
