presentation of the 500 LEONCINO 2016
Brands like to cultivate their history and highlight their glorious past. Recently, machines with a whiff of the past have been taking us on a neo-retro ride. Benelli is practicing a fine style with this endearing roadster with hints of a scrambler. This is the Leoncino, a beautiful prototype that prefigures a production machine due to arrive at the end of 2016.
the "Lionceau" makes a welcome change from the overly Chinese productions that have recently invaded the Benelli clan. While this Leoncino forgets to adopt a high position for its exhaust in order to fully claim scrambler status, the machine as a whole has a lot to commend it. A compact, curvaceous frame, studded tires on spoked rims, a sleek, gourmet design: the Benelli knows how to charm. And there's no shortage of arguments to make it a machine that's as modern as it is vintage. The classic round headlight and turn signals are LED, the brakes use radial 4-piston calipers, the petal brake discs are 320 mm in diameter, and a large 50 mm inverted fork holds the front end firmly in place. Strong, even excessive for a 48-hp machine. As far as looks are concerned, it works and it rocks.
48 horsepower? That's enough. Enough to fend off the Mash 400 Scrambler and Ducati 400 Scrambler Sixty2, to whom it will naturally be pitted. And yet, in the face of such cachet, a larger engine would have been much more appreciated. Taken from the TRK 502, this two-cylinder block also produces 4.6 mkg and is ideal for A2 license holders. While the tubular steel frame is extremely discreet, it's harder to accept the radiator's prominence and the engine's overly modern appearance in relation to the Leoncino's silhouette. There's still time and public feedback to fine-tune this Leoncino. But the little statuette on the front fender, featuring the brand's emblem, suggests that this machine already has great ambitions.

Let's be honest, in terms of finish, compared to my faithful and loyal Bandit 650 S, the little Italian-Chinese bike is much better finished
The original equipment is excellent: everything is LED, radial brakes, upside-down forks. Not bad for a basic bike
OK, it's not a spindly dancer like a KTM, but the balance is very good, and compared to my friendly Japanese anvil, I can finally zigzag between cars without breaking a sweat
I was hesitating with a CB500X, which was still more expensive, and above all had huge delivery delays due to the Black Death... The little 500 cc is also very nice. Is it the 360° timing? More fun than the 500 Honda
I know I'm taking a risk. But let's stop with this cliché: it's Chinese, so it's ####... For example, iphones are made in China. And that doesn't seem to shock Apple fans
In any case, by 2030, I won't be able to drive one anymore, thanks to the ZFE parigotte... Rating : 4/5 Respond to BigBadPete
Under current regulations, the power-to-weight ratio must not be less than 3.5, so there's plenty of room
With 47.5 hp, you're entitled to a minimum of 167 kg, which is more than enough to ride a bike of this type safely.
It's all the more of a pity because the lines are quite nice and the price is right
It even looks a little like the Triumph Trident, which is 20 kg lighter. Rating : 2/5 Respond to Jeff2A
Top speed 165 straight and 178 recumbent... :)
i'm at 2000Km and no worries

I said to myself ok why not
I rode it for about twenty kilometers, which was great, I thought it was great
And then nothing happened, it turned itself off without warning, so I restarted it
And then 5 kilometers further up the hill, same thing, nothing
I'm going to take it back to the garage but I'm disappointed Rating : 1/5 Respond to Mimichoupi
Longer gears 5 and 6 would be welcome. But it's not a tourer either. Rating : 5/5 Respond to signal
