presentation of the BN 302 2018
Far removed from the characteristic 1130 TnT and Tre-K, the BN 302 is Benelli's way of conquering new markets. No explosive power, no sporty chassis, no fury behind the throttle. Here, we're playing with an easy, gentle roadster; the machine to tame young bikers. Not the verve of Pesaro... Much more the marketing logic of Qianjiang, the Chinese brand presiding over Benelli's destiny.
the design is disconcertingly mimetic. The BN 302 has no identity of its own. And with good reason: it's a near-perfect copy-paste of the Kawasaki ER-6n. Silhouette, frame, exhaust system, stern, swingarm, shock absorber positioning, etc... Only the headlight (and still), the dashboard, the brand sticker and the displacement make the difference. At just over 300 cm3, this roadster titillates the MT-03 and KTM 390 Duke. Above all, it's designed to satisfy the mechanical thirst of emerging countries.
Let's not grumble too much, though, as this Benelli enriches the offering in a segment that's not very well-stocked. Its twin-cylinder engine produces 38 horsepower, enough for urban riding and leisurely strolls through small valleys. We grumble about its resemblance to the Kawa, but that doesn't mean it's ugly. Its upside-down forks give it plenty of stamina, and the ride promises to be playful. On the weight front, a bit of dieting wouldn't hurt. 180 kilos is the weight of a 600... and it cubes half as much. On the other hand, if this Benelli BN 302 can make its mark on the market with an attractive price tag, the tone of the young licence market could prove lenient. Fun fact: for Asian markets, this machine is called TnT 300.

You don't feel like you're riding a cheap motorcycle at all.
I've been riding motorcycles for 30 years, sportbikes, trail bikes and roadsters. My previous bike was a 600 Hornet bought new in '98.
I use it regularly on a 35kms trip, only on country roads.
The little Benelli lets you enjoy motorcycling without playing Russian roulette with your driving license... On a winding road, it's a toy... At legal speeds, it's very enjoyable. Much less frustrating than an overpowered motorcycle.
Of course, the pleasure of this little bike disappears on the fast lane, even if it's willing to do so. Rating : 4/5 Respond to domdom44
What is it worth for long trips, like 3000 km at a rate of 400 km per day? Rating : 3/5 Respond to kyd
The price is very attractive, but the aesthetics are reminiscent of more or less successful copies of existing Japanese models. As for advertised performance, the engine power remains in the middle of the range compared with other brands in the respective categories, but the weight is still too high compared with the competition.
That said, the Chinese are well on the way to surprising us quickly and, above all, pleasantly in terms of motorcycle production over the next 5 years.
What's more, there's a niche for medium-displacement motorcycles (250 cc to 600 cc) that are accessible and versatile, and don't necessarily need all the technology reserved for more powerful machines, which adds to the purchase price.
There's no point in having ABS to brake 160 or even 180 kg, or traction control on an engine that makes less than 48 hp.
Today, it seems possible to produce 400 cc 48 hp models for 160 kg maximum and at a maximum price of 5,000 euros, which is more than enough to get you started with pleasure.
In a way, this would recapture the spirit of the lightweight, very likeable motorcycles of the early 1980s, albeit without the 2t. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Jeff2A
