presentation of the G 650 GS Sertão 2012
being the smallest BMW doesn't mean you can't have ideas of grandeur. Or rather, desires for great lands. Like many people, the G 650 GS watched the stages of the Dakar Rally in South America. It started dreaming, rummaged around in the BM garage for parts, and in the corner of the posters of great escapes, it saw a boundless landscape and a name: Sertão.
don't look on a map for some hick town. Sertão is a region of Brazil with a semi-arid climate. It's a million km2 of adventure. The G 650 GS doesn't have to go out in its street clothes. She took a look at the stock of parts and equipped herself with more appropriate gear. Suspension is increased by 40 and 45 mm respectively, to provide 210 mm of travel. The wheels, too, are prepared for more off-road use: they are no longer spoked, the front wheel becomes a 21-inch, and the tire profile evolves towards more finesse - 90 and 130 instead of 110 and 140. With increased ground clearance and the addition of an engine block, the GS Sertão develops much greater cross-country capability. A slightly longer wheelbase improves stability. Comfort is enhanced by a higher bubble and a set of handguards.
the G 650 GS Sertão relies on its 652 cm3 single-cylinder engine to support road riding, escapades and small trails. In the past, a trail bike could only be conceived with a single; today, they eat twin and cubage galore. As a result, the G 650 has become an original in the category. Only the Yamaha XT 660 makes use of the same architecture. The block produces 48 horsepower, limited to 34 for young riders. Power that's appreciable in town, sufficient on soft ground, but rather fair on the freeway. But the old-fashioned G 650 GS has other assets: natural ease of use, measured fuel consumption, a spirit of adventure, and a price tag... oh no, now we're thinking twice.
