presentation of the F 800 GS 2017
has it waited for this Euro4 pretext to offer 'Driving Modes'? Or has it taken advantage? In any case, the F 800 GS was barely overhauled yesterday, and today the manufacturer is at it again. A few tweaks to the engine, exhaust and reflectors, and 3 kilos more of weight, make it Euro4-compliant. In use, the rider can now benefit from the standard 'Road' riding mode, for a standard, playful ride, and the 'Rain' mode, for a more flowing response, adapted to soaking wet roads.
As an option, this half-road/half-road trail can be enhanced with 'Pro Steering Modes'. An 'Enduro' program calibrates the ABS - ASC traction control duo for gentle TT outings with road tires, and the throttle response is set to cool. The 'Enduro Pro' mode deactivates ABS on the rear wheel, doses engine response optimally and sets ABS and ASC for knobby tires.
The instrument panel dials have been slightly revised, while the digital window now includes an engine trouble indicator.
The interesting 'Trophy' trim level includes a number of features that will be appreciated by both everyday and long-distance adventurers. We'll pass quickly over the scent of red and the GS Trophy stickers. Instead, let's take a look at the large-format hand guards, aluminum engine cowling, roll bar and center stand.
yesterday. When you think of a BMW trail bike, the R 1200 GS is the obvious choice. However, there's another bike in the range that also thinks of trails and mopeds, without the 1200's enormous size: the F 800 GS. Perhaps it was a desire to get out of the shadows that led it to spruce up its face in 2016. Or rather, the shoulders. A galvanic deposit adds a metallic sheen to the radiator caps. Reminiscent of the 2008 R 1200 GS.
The top of the fuel tank is restyled, while the seat becomes two-tone. Above all, with four variants on offer and the optional lowering kit, buyers are presented with a choice of five seat heights. The height starts at 820 mm and peaks at 920 mm. Equipment may vary according to the colors chosen.
the engine remains unchanged, as does the chassis. The 798 cm3 parallel-twin still delivers 85 horsepower with gusto. As an option, it can be limited to 48 hp for European license holders. Like the 700, the 800 comes with ABS as standard. A dual-channel model, it can be disconnected when driving off-road.
For as long as the German brand has been testing a host of innovations, these are no longer reserved for the top of the range. This F 800 GS can be fitted (as an option) with ASC traction control and ESA pilot-controlled suspension. This gives you two co-pilots of choice: the first regulates rear-wheel drive; the second adjusts your suspension according to the chosen mode (Comfort - Normal - Sport).

To share my experience
I bought this bike after renting one during a trip
I like to ride on small roads and tracks (rather dry forest roads ;-))sometimes mountain passes on national roads... on long outings
Sometimes in town, it gives the impression of riding a motocross bike in town
It's pretty good everywhere
Fairly precise cornering on rolling sections (not a sports bike, obviously, but very pleasant, reassuring, easy to handle...)
Comfortable on rougher, less rolling sections; having had roadsters before, the suspension of a trail bike is much appreciated on damaged roads (even slightly), and especially on speed bumps and other uneven surfaces.
I'm perfectly capable of rally-style riding on roads, even with stones and potholes... the suspensions take a beating (surprisingly enough, a pro should be able to go anywhere with this machine)
Or to ride quietly and admire the scenery, enjoy nature without too much impact, as the original pot is quite quiet (important for me ..and the people around me) and the engine quiet at low revs
Comfortable riding position, except for the original seat, which should be replaced by a comfort seat (mandatory for long trips)
The pluses
Maneuverable motorcycle, balanced in all areas, fairly powerful engine (for me), linear, torquey
The minuses
Seat height (I'm 1.73 m): a low seat is more reassuring
You can't deactivate the ABS on the rear only Rating : 4/5 Respond to AgentMad
i own one in Kalamata green, nothing to say, it's my bike that I've always dreamed of owning. I often use it in town for my errands and I've even done a 3000 km loop in the Algerian Sahara and the machine never asked to be ridden again, it's a war machine. Rating : 5/5 Respond to cruser09
85 hp , expensive option quality of the screws and bolts like all bmw they make savings on it so I put myself in search of a good compromise and I found triumph tiger 800 , 95 hp equal price but quality of screws and bolts then very strong the English really very strong so to see also the resale the quotation what to go to see at bmw as I often did to return a machine and to leave with another and you will be well disappointed with the price that one offers you Rating : 1/5 Respond to corsica
That's why, just last Saturday, I went out to try out an 800 GS. I was really blown away by the ride, and with the "comfort" seat, it's a real pulman. I brought along my favorite passenger, who was delighted.
It has to be said that after a Ducati, you find everything comfortable :)))
On the other hand, with the comfort saddle, you have to be over 1m70 tall, otherwise you'll be pedaling in a vacuum.
Then there's the price, which rises steeply when you take all the options. That's what keeps me from ordering it, otherwise it's a great machine! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
However, don't ask for a 34hp clamping because it takes more than 1 month.
1 week for another manufacturer.
after super moto ..... Rating : 5/5 Respond to guil31
Can you tell me how much lower the saddle can be and what the minimum height is in this case? Is there another factory solution for lowering the saddle even further? It seems that a solution is going to be created for October or early January. Are you aware of this project? In fact, I'm interested in the 800GS but I'm 1.65cm tall. Thank you very much for keeping me informed

as specified in the motorcycle data sheet :

The seat height is adjustable from 880 to 850mm.
The other solution is to adjust the suspension to lower the bike, which unfortunately has the effect of hardening it. Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
very good idea to be able to lower it.
