presentation of the 1000 ds MULTISTRADA 2003

ducat' has severely blown a fuse... or there's genius in the air. With its very "personal" style, the Multistrada is shocking in both its design and its pretensions, light years away from the legend of the Italian brand's pure sports bikes.

it could be loosely compared to a V-strom or a 900 TDM, but the Multistrada is hard to classify. Previously, on a Ducati, the torture began with a sporty riding position, with the pronounced pressure on the half handlebars a curse... On the Multistrada, the scenery changes radically: you're riding a supermotard.

with the choice of an air-cooled, 2-valve per cylinder engine, the Bologna factory has come up with a charming new engine, the best road-going twin in its history. There's no need to rev it up. Between 4,000 and 6,500 rpm, it's efficient and lively. The geometry of the chassis has been particularly well thought out, and although the Ducat' easily allows you to indulge in wheeling fantasies, the precision and stability of the front axle are astonishing. The rest of the machine follows the sequences with ease and serenity. And when the brakes are applied, they're powerful and proportional (a little less so for the rear), without in any way disturbing the bike's balance.

turns follow one another without a moment's pause, with ease and a playfulness that a sportbike can't offer. If you were to keep up with a 999, you'd have less fun and, above all, you'd be beaten to a pulp after 20 km, whereas the Multistrada lets you go on and on. Taken out on the highway, it's less at ease, but can still cut a decent figure on the road, and then some... It's not an ST4 - in fact, it's far more comfortable.

and while we're on the subject of upsetting Ducatisti, once you're in town, you'll enjoy a NORMAL turning radius. If you want to have even more fun, you can take it out on the back roads, but there's no surprise here: it behaves like a big trail bike, not really at ease. The Multistrada catalog is enhanced by a list of options, to make the beast either more roadworthy or more racing-like.

I bought the first one to arrive at the dealership in my department in the spring of 2003, and it's been nothing but happiness ever since. I still get the same pleasure out of riding it, even after 22 years. In my opinion, the Price/Pleasure/Character ratio is unbeatable, and considering its longevity, it's really not expensive. Rating : 5/5

I have ridden 56 000 kms with this machine, previously I had an 800 Monster, the difference? in the first place it is to drive a Ducati with the back straight and not lengthened towards the handlebars. the engine is quite sufficient in power and torque, but little flexible below 3000tr/mn unless being very well adjusted. Very maneuverable, light and easy to balance, with a lively engine. The saddle is hard after 1 hour! low fuel consumption 5 l or sometimes less. The gauge is unreliable, so it's better to count in your head; starting is surprising: press the button once and let the machine start; so it's better to have a good battery! reliable engine, on condition that the machine is only serviced by a connoisseur, otherwise problems arise over time and also the fragile dry clutch, which was changed after 36,000 kms. A very pleasant bike, but it needs to be properly maintained. Rating : 4/5

While we wait for the hypermotard to be completed?
Thanks to Ducati for producing bikes like this.

2 years and 14000kms that I own it and I still have the pleasure of the first day when I demare But it is decided I sell it to buy the version OHLINS. This bike can do everything I've never had any mechanical problems. Rating : 5/5

What more can I say than what you've all said. I've also been riding a Multi for 1 year and it's nothing but happiness. Indeed, noise ... a little too Japanese and not enough Ducati, mirrors ... pretty but not effective, fuel gauge wacky (actually I ride with the trip meter and experience ... )
But when you like it ..
I put on the comfort saddles, the high bubble, the center stand, the rear mudguard and the panniers
What feet on the handlebars. Pleasant in town, on a leisurely ride, playful as soon as you go to get it, and top braking when you've gone too far to get it ;o))
Truly a great bike.

I've been riding a Multistrada for two years now, and it's true that it's a machine with many charms. Agile in town, easy to ride, low maintenance, but it's also true that you shouldn't hesitate to make a few extra investments. The original saddle is a horror. For my part, I opted for the comfort saddle, which is great. Over time, I've added the center stand and rear mudguard, which is really better for maintenance. It's an excellent bike, even for two people. The only negative points I'd highlight are the fuel gauge warning light, which comes on very early when there's still 7 or 8 liters of fuel left out of the 18 in the tank. But over time, you get used to this and keep a closer eye on the trip meter. On the other hand, the mirrors are useless except for looking at your forearms. What's more, they vibrate too much. Apart from that, it's not bad Rating : 5/5
the ideal motorcycle. it does everything very well (except maybe traffic jams). all qualities with only one small drawback: the original noise. Rating : 5/5

I've been riding a multistrada for 1 month now, and I have to admit, this bike is a real winner! Very pleasant machine for long and short distances, for rough roads. Great riding position (a pain in the ass..but hey!!), large fuel tank capacity, pannier and top case options. Limits extravagance on the highway (protection even for little ones). Possibility of lowering the seat height...so notice to the girls!
Ducatly your multipass!

Why more horsepower...? sure, it's got less power than the S4R, but the handling of my 900 monstro 96.... on small mountain roads...it's still all behind me...great bike...too bad now I've got horn in the back... Rating : 5/5

I've been riding the multistrada for almost a year now. Only 4,000km (I don't ride much), but it's a real head-turner! Totally versatile machine: city, road, mountain, and not at all ridiculous on the freeway. After the Monstro S4 and then the 999S, I've found "THE" machine I needed... The only slight drawback is the side stand, which is a little light. Rating : 5/5

7000 km in 7 weeks: incredible bike in town and on small roads, especially in the mountains, fabulous looks, pleasant engine, a little lmite below 2500 rpm (in town), bluffing braking, fully adjustable suspension, negative side: bubble too small even with the high bubble, seat not very comfortable even with the comfort seat option, but hey, you probably still have to suffer a bit to be able to ride a Ducati. The on-board computer and lap counter are perfect. In conclusion, two bikes for the price of one: pleasant and civilized in the city, an almost cushy bike, but when you decide to try and push it, it's a sports bike (I ride with friends on Triumphs, BMWs and Yamahas) that doesn't concede anything to the other sports bikes, with a special riding position that quickly becomes very pleasant Rating : 5/5
a short test drive of about 20 km with a pleasant engine that is both supple and furious.a pleasant riding position.the only drawback is that there is little protection for taller riders Rating : 5/5
