presentation of the ST4 916 1998

ducati bikes have one wonderful thing in common: a natural instinct for sportiness. With the creation of the ST series, Ducati has embarked on a sporty tourer... that just needs a bit of drive from the rider to get into a very sporty rhythm. Compared to the 2-valve ST2, the ST4 has just one major difference: its boiler is the liquid-cooled desmoquattro of the 916. With the renowned muscle of a Superbike champion, the ST has even more character than its little sister. VFR enthusiasts, don't expect the same kind of docile machine. The twin's flexibility is very relative, and it's best not to spend too long at the bottom of the rev counter, especially as there's not much torque there. The powerplant delivers volcanic power at 8,000 rpm. For a sports car, this is particularly thrilling - for a tourer, moderately cool...

If we continue in this vein, we note inadequate protection and a driving position that is suited to sport, but less so to touring, and frankly tiring. The chassis, taken over from the ST2, doesn't really appreciate rough roads. On benevolent tarmac, the bike is synonymous with precision and efficiency. Exaggerating a little, one might conclude that this is a 916 with suitcases. The ST4 isn't quite so exclusive; it's aimed at fans of Italian sportbikes who demand a minimum of comfort, a little room for 2 small bags and mini versatility to carve up the road.

French Archi Model 2002
A formidable machine that holds its own. Once you've read the instructions, you're in for a treat. Mine holds the throttle without any hiccups (air box open, KN filter and
filter, and proper adjustment). And with the suitcases, it's a very practical machine, and the suitcases don't interfere with driving

Yes, I agree, you have to get to know her. I have an ST4 from 2000, and I love her a little more every day. Rating : 4/5
French SOUPAPE Model 2000
i've had a st4 since november 2011.
IT'S A SAFE MOTORCYCLE, because of its road handling, a well-damped rail and excellent braking.
An exceptional engine............
I'm swapping my saddle for a comfort saddle....
It's demanding for those who want to ride it fast, physical and fast, but what an efficient bike!

French Model 1998
Superb, a real engine, good road holding, fork a little light, good compromise, excellent position (I'm 57, it's the only one where my back doesn't hurt), it's an Italian, the only very negative point is no torque at low revs, not even a gear indicator, a real shame. That's really why I'd part with it. Rating : 4/5
French Model 1998
Exclusive machine, but what a character! At least you get your money's worth for years on end, unlike a VFR with which you get bored very quickly. In the sport-touring compromise, it's hard to beat it. It's a true sports bike, but it's still capable of going the distance without breaking a sweat. Slightly forward position, excellent protection, especially for the legs and feet, U under the seat and small storage spaces in the rear flanks (rain pants and small rain jacket)... Ridiculous fuel consumption, excellent reliability, top-of-the-range standard parts and accessories (suspension, brakes, etc.) and top-of-the-range sensations. What more can I say? Expect a slightly higher regular budget than a Japanese model... But it's a Ducati... Rating : 5/5
