presentation of the CVO 1980 Road Glide ST FLTRXSTSE 2025

Watch out! This CVO ST is brutal. The one that puts all Harleys on the same level when it comes to performance. It's the one that plays the "racing" game, but you still have to pay some €47,590 for it. Osculation..

In terms of silhouette, the Road Glide differs from the Street Glide in that its fairing is anchored to the frame, rather than to the forks. This facilitates manoeuvring, as the weight is no longer borne by the steering. For 2023, the Road Glide has undergone a huge change, as its famous shark nose, which used to enclose a double headlamp, has been transformed into a large LED bar, with a visual signature underneath forming a kind of W.

For this series, the Road Glide takes on three letters that signal its importance: CVO! CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operation, the very top of the Harley-Davidson range. Every year, Harley offers a small series of motorcycles with these luxury attributes. The basic Road Glide, with the Milwaukee Twin 117, is already worth the princely sum of €31,790. Add another €15,200 for an original Road Glide CVO with the 121 cubic inch twin, and another €500 for the CVO ST model with its seriously optimized twin.

In fact, the ST designation is a first in the CVO category. Custom Vehicle Operation offers two versions of this Road Glide: the basic CVO (!), the ultimate Road Glide, and the CVO ST, the most sophisticated bagger ever produced by Harley-Davidson. In the U.S., the craze for racing these big GTs with no top-case but with a pair of side cases and a huge fairing is going strong! Indian and Harley were at each other's throats. As a result, Harley is bringing out a Road Glide CVO ST to meet this growing demand by offering the fastest, most powerful bagger available.

The paintwork is worthy of the CVO's meticulous service. A choice of two shades: Golden White Pearl or Raven Metallic. Ultra-polished paintwork, varnished and re-varnished, often costing over €7,000 each... On the fairing, Screamin' Eagle graphics and the "Fast Johnny" sticker echo the brand's bikes officially entered in this championship, christened MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers.

Harley-Davidson CVO 1980 Road Glide ST FLTRXSTSEthe most violent part of this ST is the engine. A monster of metal, capable of delivering some serious power! The Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output (1977 cm3) is exclusive to this ST. It has undergone camshaft work (a Screamin' Eagle stage 2) and a high-performance intake inspired by Harley's racing department. The new airbox delivers 26% more air than the VVT 121 installed on other touring CVOs. Its shape and positioning have been optimized both for performance and to limit discomfort to the rider's legs.

The result is convincing. Better than the original CVO, which offers 183 Nm at 3,500 rpm and 115 bhp at 5,020 rpm, this one has been redesigned to give you a whopping 193 Nm at 4,000 rpm and some 127 bhp at 4,900 rpm! This Harley engine is the most powerful and has the highest maximum torque value ever produced by the Motor Compagny. What's more, the final drive ratio is shortened to further improve acceleration performance in every gear. And the red zone is set at 5,900 rpm. Now that's brutal!

As for the chassis, the front and rear suspensions have been entrusted to Showa. These are fully adjustable. The separate rear cylinders are positioned towards the top of the suitcases, making them easier to adjust. The inverted fork has a diameter of 47 mm. Travel is 117 mm at the front and 79 mm at the rear. Braking is handled by Brembo, with 4-piston floating calipers at the front. Wheels are 19" at the front and 18" at the rear.

Harley-Davidson CVO 1980 Road Glide ST FLTRXSTSEharley has also done its part to reduce weight, cutting 12 kg off the scale. The CVO ST weighs 363 kg unladen (approx. 380 kg in running order), compared with 375 kg for the CVO (approx. 393 kg ready to ride). The mudguard, tank console and rear seat cover are made of carbon fiber. The silencer features lightweight titanium shells and carbon-fiber end caps. Finally, the wheels and brake discs have been lightened to reduce unsprung weight.

In terms of electronics, this CVO ST comes with several driving modes: Road, Sport, Rain, 4 customizable, as well as two track-only modes, Track and Track Plus, very much in the "King of the baggers" style. Not to mention four other customizable driving modes. These driving modes allow you to intervene in various aspects such as power delivery, engine braking, cornering anti-lock braking system (C-ABS) and cornering traction control system (C-TCS).

Finally, the FLTRXSTSE also pleases the eye with its dashboard. Huge at 312 mm, it is fully customizable. In addition to navigation, it offers three display options and an impressive infotainment system. The sound system is equipped with a 500-watt amplifier and speakers in the 6.5-inch Rockford Fosgate Stage II fairing, so you can tax your friends to the limit while listening to Prodigy at full throttle.

the different riding modes of the Harley-Davidson CVO 121 Road GLide :

- Road mode : Designed for everyday use, the "road" mode offers balanced performance. This mode offers less aggressive throttle response and less engine power in the mid-range than "Sport" mode, with a higher level of C-ABS and C-TCS intervention.

- Sport mode: Sport mode can maximize the rider's connection to the bike. He can experience the bike's full performance potential directly and precisely, with full power and the fastest throttle response. C-TCS is set to its lowest intervention level and engine braking is increased.

- Rain mode: throttle response and power output are programmed to significantly limit the rate of acceleration, engine braking is limited and the highest levels of C-ABS and C-TCS intervention are selected.

- Custom modes: To create a customized mode, the rider uses the touchscreen to select his or her combined preferences for engine torque distribution characteristics, engine braking, throttle response and C-TCS and C-ABS intervention, within specific ranges.

- Track mode: maximum power is identical to that of Sport mode, but throttle response is adjusted to suit the track for more refined control. The ABS setting has a reduced intervention level (identical to that of King of the Bagger racing bikes) and deactivates electronic rear-front braking. The traction control system retains the same performance as in Sport mode. This mode is intended for use on a dry track or closed circuit.

- Track Plus mode: maximum power is the same as in Sport mode, and throttle response is the same as in Circuit mode. The ABS is set to an even lower intervention level, allowing a significantly higher level of rear-wheel slip when braking or downshifting aggressively, to further enhance rider control in a track environment. In addition, this mode deactivates electronic braking in both directions (front-to-rear and rear-to-front), allowing fully independent control of both brakes. The performance of the traction control system is also adapted to the circuit, allowing greater wheel slip when accelerating in a straight line and when cornering. This mode should only be used by experienced drivers on a dry track or closed circuit.
