presentation of the XR 1200 Sportster 2008
Harley-Davidson Europe has chosen the Mondial du Deux Roues 2007 in Paris to reveal the long-awaited XR 1200 in its ultimate version: a streamlined Harley-Davidson with unrivalled handling and performance, directly inspired by the Harley-Davidson® XR 750 Flat Track, the legendary American Dirt-track competition bike.
As announced by Harley-Davidson last July, the XR 1200 will go into production in early 2008. The bike will arrive in dealerships this spring, and will be sold in France at a price of €11,395.
" The incredible enthusiasm of the public for the XR 1200 prototype, and the impatience of our customers and the media throughout Europe following its presentation at the Intermot international motorcycle show in October 2006, have confirmed our interest in developing a Harley-Davidson inspired by our competition machines," emphasizes Michael van der Sande, Managing Director Harley-Davidson Europe. " We're delighted to be able to launch production of this motorcycle and offer it to the eagerly awaited European enthusiasts. We've already received several orders from dealerships!"
specially developed for European customers
The XR 1200 is the fruit of close collaboration between The Motor Company's Milwaukee-based development team and the Harley-Davidson Europe planning team. Reflecting the importance of the European market to Harley-Davidson, the European team played a role in defining the specifications and ergonomics of the XR 1200, and worked with American engineers on the machine's suspension, braking and handling.
The result is the launch of Harley-Davidson's most powerful air-cooled motorcycle to date, conforming to European specifications, with vertical intake/injection and a displacement of 1200cm3. For the first time in the Motor Company's history, the suspension and brakes have been tuned to suit European roads and riding styles. With a generous rake angle, sporty suspension including 43mm upside-down forks, high-performance brakes and special Dunlop® Qualifier tires, the XR 1200, which will go into regular production, could become the most European Harley-Davidson yet.
