The CVO Road Glide Limited 120th Anniversary represents the ultimate in Harley-Davidson prestige. Grandiosity, exacting standards, wallet-busting luxury and refinement for this heavyweight vessel of the road.
120 years since William Harley and the Davidson brothers (Arthur, William and Walter) embarked on their mechanical adventure. This jubilee deserves special attention. Six other Harley models bear the commemorative colors of the event, but with this Road Glide, we're in another dimension. That of the opulence of barons, business jets and 50-year-old cognac lovers.
From the outset, this Tourer is enormous. A veritable road devouring machine, it crushes milestones under its Tomahawk wheels. By mixing the CVO luxury treatment with the 120th anniversary coat of arms, Harley has given it an even more solemn dress. A blend of peaty amber, reflecting an eagle in full flight, is set against a black nappage; the two separated by hand-drawn red and gold edging. Deeply sublime.
The fuel tank also features eagle-shaped medallions, with gold plating (yikes!). Custom Vehicle Operation has really taken pleasure in this bike, not forgetting to take care of its engine. The Milwaukee Eight twin is adorned with red elements on its rocker covers and rocker rods, as well as a gold finish for the badges adorning the air filter housing, the gearbox casings, the alternator casing and the top of the horn.
Entertainment is provided by the Boom Box GTS multimedia console and Rockford Fosgate sound system with 100 watts per channel. The on-board system can read SD, USB and MP3 cards, keeps you informed with a 6.5-inch color TFT screen, manages the driver/passenger intercom, plots the route with GPS, can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth, has a choice of some fifteen languages... and even allows you to listen to the radio.
But that's not what caught the crew's attention. They chose a CVO because of its jubilant charisma and its engine. A true bovine heart, with ventricles totalling 1923 cm3. Perhaps its 4 valves per cylinder, semi-liquid cooling, high-performance camshaft and Heavy Breather air filter will appeal to you.... Then only its unconditional breath will grace your senses. In the midst of Harley's character will come 16.9 mkg at 3,500 rpm. A huge hand pushing at your back, disgorging its momentum at a speed where most overexcited motorcycles have barely begun their effort.
Come on, it's already rumbling enough to sully body, heart and hair. But..
But it's time to hit the highways. This Harley's got big steps for your boots, and crash-bar footrests to relax your legs. All you have to do is engage the cruise control and let it happen.
Isn't cruise control a bit much for a Harley? No more and no less than all the on-board assistance systems: cornering ABS, residual torque regulator, traction control, hill-start assist, tire pressure monitoring, front/rear braking, keyless ignition, and so on.
Now , let's forget the classical considerations and take a metaphysical moment. Buying the 120th Anniversary CVO Road Glide Limited gets you into a club of 1,500 people. Or rather, to ride one of the 1,500 examples of this exceptional liner. That's if you've got the stomach for it. At over 60,000 euros, this is the most expensive Harley-Davidson ever mass-produced. The laser-engraved serial number on the center console will remind you of your allegiance to history.
