The advantage of having few choices is that you don't have to waste a lot of time hesitating. As for trikes, there are only two available if you want a production model: the Freewheeler or Harley's Tri Glide Ultra. If you want to treat yourself, the latter is the better choice. And to add a little dose of exception, the 120th anniversary version is there to ride with a piece of American history.
harley is planning to produce 1,100 examples of this model. The special feature of this model is its "Heirloom Red Fade" paintwork, specific to the commemorative models. The Bordeaux red extends to the borders, which are filled with a darker "Midnight Crimson" hue. The seat is two-tone, as are the passenger armrests. The 120th Anniversary models also feature special badges on the engine and air filter. The fuel tank features a special gold badge, crystallizing an eagle taking flight.
Cruising on this remarkable machine takes on a whole new meaning. The equipment is rich, the look singular, the sensations different, but the passion remains with the big Milwaukee Eight 1870 cm3 engine; installed here in its Twin Cooled version, which means it's partially water-cooled. Impressive cubage, 4 valves per cylinder, various upgrades, and the engine produces some 16.3 mkg. The Tri Glide's heavy mass, 561 kgs of metal, wheels, handlebars and comfort, will numb it somewhat. But once the Tour Pak and trunk have been filled, the passenger installed and the rider ready for use, the convoy will approach the weight of a car. Never mind, trike fans don't care about such considerations.
The Tri Glide is equipped with electric reverse, a 124-liter trunk, parking brake, BOOM BOX GTS multimedia center with 6.5-inch TFT screen and 4 speakers, Daymaker LED headlights and stability that's impossible on a two-wheeler. It is also equipped with specific RDRS: a cornering-enhanced electronic braking system (C-ELB), a cornering-enhanced ABS braking system (C-ABS), a cornering-enhanced traction control system (C-TCS), and a cornering residual torque control system (C-DSCS).
Needless to say, the price is just about bearable.... for the various colors. Let's take a look at the price list, though, and note that the "120TH Anniversary W/Chrome Finish" option alone costs the equivalent of a 975 Nightster.
