presentation of the Hunk 440 2026
In 2025, Harley-Davidson sold around 11,000 motorcycles per month. On the other side of the world, the much less well-known manufacturer Hero Motocorp was selling 17,000 machines... per day. Of course, the prices of the models are not at all comparable. But this illustrates the importance of the Indian brand in its own territory. In fact, Harley has entrusted Hero with the production of its X 440.
Hero no longer wants to be content with supplying its local market in abundance and has its sights set on Europe. This will happen with the arrival of the Hunk 440. A small, bold roadster, a young explorer of our lands and already particularly impertinent.
Let's get straight to the point: the price is incredible! This 400 is priced at 3,600 rupees—about 30% less than most 125s. It's as if only the materials are being charged for. Only Mash manages to do better, with its Five Hundred (which has been around for a dozen years and has outdated technology).
Simple and funky?
Well, yes, for its price, the Hero isn't going to offer you GP racing or adrenaline in the connecting rods. Sorry, the connecting rod. Its 440cc single-cylinder engine (with 2 valves, 1 ACT and air-cooled) can deliver up to 27 horsepower and 36 Nm. These figures are comparable to the Mash we mentioned and the old Royal Enfield 410 Himalayan. Nothing spectacular, but enough to get around on a daily basis in the city, with a few bucolic outings to enjoy the scents of the vineyards and undergrowth. In fact, this modest engine may seem weak, especially when compared to more powerful machines such as the Triumph Speed 400 or the Duke 390. But this motorcycle was born in India, in an environment where dozens of horsepower are useless.
But a great price and modest performance are not enough to define a motorcycle. The Hunk also knows how to attract attention with an inspired but not exciting design, a prominent inverted fork, and standard cash bars. It's a "unique" choice that makes you want to get out your angle grinder or 12 mm wrench. And although the Hunk and the Harley X440 are twin sisters, Hero has modified the styling (fairing, tank, wheels, seat, headlight, passenger grab rail, exhaust, side covers) enough to give them distinct personalities.

Basically, the Hunk 440 is a basic motorcycle, with a very conventional steel tube frame, Bybre brakes with one disc per wheel (320 mm front and 240 mm rear), a fairly hefty weight of 187 kg, and a fairly short service interval (6,000 km). But it also has a very decent finish, a color TFT speedometer, smartphone pairing, LED headlights, ABS, a USB port, 17-inch wheels (more tire choices) and a 5-year warranty.
It's here to observe and warn
Hunk at home or Maverick away, this Hero is sure to get people talking even before it hits the road. We see it more as a second bike or a machine to get some practice on, as our habits and our market have become quite demanding. Hero has ambitions and considerable clout, and this 440 Hunk could be just a taste of things to come.
