presentation of the 1890 Chief Bobber Dark Horse 2022
We 're faced with a moment of ambiguity. How can this Chief be called a Bobber when the Chief itself has become a bobber? Is the name just one facet? Is Springfield's custom revival swimming against the tide? Wanting to be reduced to the essentials while retaining an idea of imposing presence helps to provoke a hell of a lot of brain-juice. Okay, this Dark Horse Chief Bobber won't sit still.
Let's continue with the nonsense. This kind of machine is supposed to be as uncluttered as possible. Yet the Dark Horse Bobber is fitted with trim pieces that the Chief couldn't care less about. Styling takes control, with streamlined forks and shocks, a headlight pod, spoked rims and a big front tire that seems to square the road.
But where the bike clearly makes its presence felt is in the riding position it offers the rider.
The Ape-Hanger handlebars put your arms over the horizon, while the advanced footpegs allow you to bring your boots right up to the edge of the frame. So, now we're into custom-culture. We're going to roll out some bad-tempered street cowboy, with metallic, gargled belches. Now it's time for the big twin-cylinder Thunderstroke.

With these attributes in mind, the Dark Horse Chief Bobber boasts no more or less equipment than the standard Chief. Both feature a double-cradle tubular steel frame - a break with the aluminum profile structure of the previous generation - 300 mm brake discs (1 per wheel), a 46 mm fork mated to a pair of shock absorbers, a 15-liter fuel tank, triple injection mapping, keyless start, color TFT circular speedometer with phone control, GPS function and multiple functionalities, USB charger, 12V socket, cruise control, ABS and LED headlamp.
Does it get any more bobber than this? We've become accustomed to this kind of eugenics, lyrical naming and flavored presentation.
There's only one way to really grasp it: take it out alone between the night of the streetlamps and the character of the asphalt. That's if you're willing to pay a hefty premium over the Chief.
