presentation of the KLE 500 2026
The doorbell rings (brop, broaapp)... You open the door... and you see a friend you haven't heard from in 20 years. What a shock. Then comes the joy of reunion. And suddenly you realize that she has changed a lot, that she is still the same age... but that it's her daughter. That's exactly what's happening with the Kawasaki 500 KLE. A model that disappeared from the (French) catalog in 2007, almost forgotten, and now a new generation is taking up the torch. With a much more distinctive profile.
The trend is toward long-distance riding.
With its high front end, straight back, distant gaze, and raised stance, this is a motorcycle inspired by rally-raid machines. It's trendy, and it clearly shows how the new KLE approaches the road. Precisely, not spending all its time like a crossover, but willingly venturing onto soft, dusty, or gravelly terrain. The front wheel makes no pretense of this, with its spoked rim, ideal 21-inch diameter, narrow 90/90 profile, and studded tire. The rear wheel is designed in the same way, with a 17-inch format and 140 profile. The original tires are IRC GP-410s, which will do the job without being the best in their segment.
Under the hood, you'll find the twin-cylinder engine used throughout the 500 family. Double ACT, 8 valves, super-square dimensions, 451 cm3... it's the same, except for the power, as on the other Akashi 500s. It produces 45.4 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. A2 license holders can head straight out on a ride without a second thought. The torque is also identical, at 4.3 mkg. Enough to give you a little boost when you need it. But don't ask too much of it either. It's not a purebred enduro engine. What's more, the bike isn't light.
It weighs almost 200 kg when fully loaded. This won't be a problem on the road. The twin will just be less responsive than the Z and Ninja. Off-road, this medium weight (between an enduro bike and a large trail bike) should be fun but generally more delicate than a true off-road machine. The 860 mm seat height will be a relative challenge for most riders. In any case, the bike is there to be enjoyed on trails and under hawks, not to tackle river climbs.

The strongest of the family
However, the frame is significantly reinforced compared to the other 500s. It can handle its share of stress and relies on Kayaba (KYB) components with adequate travel to manage shocks. The 43 mm inverted fork has 210 mm of travel, while the shock absorber, working with a new Uni-Trak suspension, has 197 mm. The ground clearance of 185 mm, slightly higher than that of a roadster, will allow for a few escapades, but a little caution is advised as it is still just enough for TT. Even though it comes as standard, the engine guard is not very big.
And there are no hand guards as standard. Kawa promotes them on the SE. There are also quite a few accessories of all kinds to customize the KLE according to your desires.
On the other hand, in terms of standard equipment, it has rear ABS that can be deactivated, an LCD speedometer with smartphone connection and the Rideology app, a windshield that can be adjusted to three positions, a slipper clutch with super-smooth lever action, a 16-liter fuel tank, Nissin 2-piston brakes and one disc per wheel—300 mm at the front and 230 mm at the rear.
It's a shame that the only color available is rather dull, especially compared to the cheerfulness that the bike promises. This is also a way for Kawa to "steer" you towards the SE version, which has bolder graphics, more advanced equipment, and a higher price tag.
Where things could get really tough is in the category. The KLE arrives at the same time as the BMW F 450 GS (slightly less off-road) and both will compete with the CFMOTO 450 MT, Royal-Enfield 450 Himalayan, and KTM 390 Adventure R. It's going to be a dogfight in the forest.

The clan of yesterday lives on today.
In medieval times (the era of the Yamaha Thunderace, 600 Bandit, 900 CBR, and the like), young bikers already hooked on Kawasaki could choose between an ER-5 roadster, a 500 GPZ sports bike, an EN 500 Classic custom bike, or a 500 KLE trail bike—all equipped with the same engine but adapted to each model. A generation later, Kawasaki's offering is not so different: a Z 500, a Ninja 500, an Eliminator 500, and now the 500 KLE. The technical level, design, and equipment are completely different, but the desires are the same. The KLE has stood the test of time and adapted to changing trends with an adventurous profile.
