presentation of the 750 ZX-7 RR 1996
between the road version and the RR we're discovering here, only the single-seater seat will allow you to tell them apart. The ZX-7R already has a strong seductive power thanks to its very competitive look. With the RR, Kawasaki offers you a very tempting deal: 9 plates and you get a compé-client! Practically an invitation to the Superbike championship. Tempting, isn't it?
the RR makes a strong case for itself, and stands out from the standard in many respects. The hyper-square engine block is powered by 41 mm Keihin Racing carburetors instead of the standard 38 mm. The gearbox changes almost all its ratios: the first 2 have been lengthened and the last 3 shortened. The crown wheel gains a tooth to lengthen the final gear ratio. The crankshaft has been made heavier to increase inertia and improve re-acceleration. A few new, reinforced clutch discs have also been added to keep up; 135 hp are available in full, but the boiler can go much further. Another small cheque for 37,000 frs and you've got the Superbike engine kit to assemble, with the key to 150 grunts to race around the track.
On the ZX-7 RR "big watts", the joke's over: we're dealing with impressive potential. The boiler is rounder and friendlier in the mid-range, rises quickly in the revs and transforms the track session into "acceleration" mode. The needle takes off sharply up to 14,500 rpm, only to be halted either by the ignition switch or by a kick from the selector. The gearbox is excellent, but you won't have time to judge because the bike is already coming up to speed on the killer curve. It's high time to grab the brakes, which require a certain amount of grip in exchange for power and bite. The chassis copes perfectly and doesn't suffer from any unhealthy reactions. Normal, it was designed for it.
The frame is reinforced and lightened, allowing you to adjust the bike's geometry in all directions. Compared to the ZX-7R, a host of modifications : adjustable column angle and swingarm anchor points, shorter wheelbase, larger steering column diameter, improved fork with more adjustment options, different shock absorber with more adjustability.tokico calipers replaced by Nissin, lighter battery, and as it can't take a passenger, the rear frame has also been redesigned.
this Kawasaki ZX-7 RR is the stuff of many fantasies. If you're sure you want one, hurry up and order it, because the manufacturer has only planned 20 machines for France. Otherwise, watch it shine at the Bol or Laguna Seca.
