presentation of the 350 FREERIDE 2012
as a specialist in cross-country and enduro machines, KTM can boast a range... or rather, a veritable fleet of off-road machines. From the 50 SX to the 500 EXC six days, there are over 20 models for connoisseurs.
But by developing ever more efficient, ever more expensive bikes, Katoche has unwittingly reserved its models for discerning, well-trained riders - in short, ready to race.
and the amateur? The Mattighöffen-based brand is now offering the 350 Freeride for just such a rider. A more open-minded enduro model, aimed at a wider audience than the specialists targeted by EXCs. Weighing in at a featherweight 99.5 kg, equipped with a new steel frame, the Freeride is powered by the 350 EXC-F mono, deflated to 24 hp. A rather lousy performance, and very surprising for a Katoche. Kawasaki puts out just as many grunts with its 250 KLX, as does Honda with its CRF 250 L. With its long-travel suspension, and advertised as being much less physical than the EXC, this 350 Freeride is sure to appeal to enthusiasts of cross-country riding. But the price remains high for a machine that's supposed to be more accessible.
