presentation of the 500 EXC 6 days 2016
The KTM 500 EXC is a demanding bike, designed for warriors and serious enduro riders. A lumberjack's motorcycle for hard competition, as KTM knows how to make them. No other brand in off-road motorsports can match KTM's track record. The special edition Six Days models pay tribute to this success with special performance enhancements and top-of-the-range components. In 2015, the International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) will be held in Slovakia, and the KTM model range has been equipped to cope with all the pitfalls that these muddy, rocky terrains can present.
engine
developed for committed enduro riding, the 510.4 cc SOHC engine features extreme compactness, easy maintenance and exemplary longevity at minimal weight. Combined with Keihin's EFI system, it offers performance and comfort particularly suited to enduro riding.
cylinder head
the cylinder head features a single overhead camshaft. This drives two titanium intake valves and two steel exhaust valves. The weight-optimized valve train reduces friction and improves performance, while reducing the effect of engine braking.
piston
the lightweight forged bridged box piston features the same rings as those on the 450 SX-F.
crankshaft
the crankshaft, with its 72.0mm stroke and ultra-light connecting rods, is made by Pankl from special high-strength steel. The crankshaft features a smooth connecting-rod bearing. Two bearing shells are force-fitted directly onto the crankpin. The bearing is supplied with oil from the engine's pressure lubrication system. This design extends engine life and crankshaft service intervals, saving the customer time, effort and money.
balancing shaft
to compensate for inertia forces, the motor is fitted with a balancer shaft that also drives the water pump.
engine Management System
the Engine Management System supplied by Keihin, combined with electronic fuel injection and a 42 mm throttle body, ensures immediate response and optimum engine performance. The 196 W oil-cooled AC alternator is sufficient to power fuel injection, lighting and all other electrical consumers. Combined with the engine map selection control offered as an option in the Power Parts range, the EMS allows the driver to select different engine characteristics. What's more, the optional User Tuning Tool allows engine data to be read using a laptop computer, and ignition and injector mappings to be modified with just a few clicks.
starter
the 500 EXC is equipped with a kick starter as standard, as well as an electric starter. The electric starter is well protected at the rear of the cylinder.
gearbox
the 6-speed gearbox offers smooth, precise shifting.
dDS clutch
the one-piece DDS (damped diaphragm steel) clutch housing is machined from a single piece of high-strength steel, together with the primary transmission pinion. This process guarantees unrivalled reliability, and contributes to the engine's compactness thanks to its rivet-free design and ultra-thin steel linings. The elastic diaphragm allows the use of an additional rubber damping system inside the clutch hub, ensuring transmission reliability and excellent driveability. Last but not least, the Brembo hydraulic clutch mechanism associated with this elastic membrane plays an essential role in clutch progressiveness and operation.
high-quality wheels
all KTM Six Days models are equipped as standard with GIANT alloy wheels.all KTM Six Days models are equipped as standard with GIANT wheels made of high-quality, extremely stable 7050 aluminum alloy, featuring the Six Days logo and CNC-machined hubs. Developed in collaboration with KTM, Metzeler tires ensure excellent traction, steering precision and long life. Another standard feature on Six Days is the Supersprox bi-metal rear sprocket with steel outer ring and aluminum star.
fork crown
top-of-the-range CNC-machined fork crowns are designed specifically for enduro riding, ensuring precise handling by influencing fork flex. Feedback to the front wheel is exceptional, even on the roughest terrain, increasing safety and passing speeds.
telescopic fork
kTM Six Days models are equipped with a 48 mm closed-cartridge 4CS fork from WP Suspension. Not only is WP's patented 4-chamber technology (4CS) an advantage in terms of responsiveness and consistent damping performance, it's also lighter and the oil change procedure is much simpler than on traditional closed-cartridge versions. And, of course, settings can be easily adapted to suit the track and the rider with a few clicks of the knob at the top of the fork: compression adjustment on the left and rebound on the right: another advantage of 4CS technology.
swingarm
the design of the cast aluminum swingarm was the result of careful calculations and computer simulation. Its design and wall thickness guarantee optimum rigidity while reducing weight, as well as precisely defined flexibility.
handlebars
all EXC models are equipped with ultra-high-strength, profiled Neken handlebars made from high-tensile aluminum alloy. Bridges of proven design standards allow the handlebars to be fixed in four different positions. Leonelli's new lighting control is adapted to the demands of enduro riding. Standard perforated handguards provide optimum protection for the rider's hands.
individual suspension adjustment
each EXC model has its own suspension settings, perfectly matched to weight and engine. at the rear, a PDS shock absorber from WP Suspension is connected directly to the upper part of the swingarm. KTM machines come standard with a wide range of high-speed and low-speed rebound and compression adjustment options.
frame
the modern frame design of the 500 EXC Six Days, with tubular sections made of lightweight, high-strength chrome-moly steel, offers a high degree of stability.ne steel, offers maximum longitudinal rigidity combined with optimum torsional rigidity. It ensures excellent handling and steering precision, as well as excellent ride stability. So the new frame doesn't just come in a new color; it also sets the benchmark in terms of weight and stability. The frame is the same orange color as that of the KTM factory team, making it even more attractive. Thanks to the combination of frame design and the PDS rear damping system, shocks to the rear wheel are optimally absorbed and dissipated. The 2016 model is also equipped with a solid frame protector.
brakes
kTM's off-road models have always been equipped with high-tech Brembo brakes and Wave discs, the ultimate braking solution. True benchmarks in the enduro category, they remain unchanged on 2016 models.
