presentation of the 1100 CALIFORNIA EV 2002
affectionately nicknamed "Calif", the California is an essential piece of Moto-Guzzi history. The equivalent of theElectra Glide with that typically Italian charm. Designed to cruise to the thumping beat of its 2 huge bowls, the bike makes itself desirable by its own rules. First, there's the engine: a V2 bursting at the seams, alive and kicking. The effort of its innards betrays its age, but its behavior leaves no one unmoved. Riding is an art, and the big piston strokes sprinkle it with joviality. Comfort is present and the bike brakes well. The finish is good, although it's worth keeping an eye on certain components. The only major complaint is the gearbox, which is hopelessly slow. The Calif can go fast, but it doesn't like to. Its trick is to take you to the ends of the earth at a leisurely pace that will thrill you as much as it does. If you're curious, don't bother - the California, like many Guzzi models, is aimed at connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Its bewitching engine will quickly turn you into one of them.

At the time, I was 63 years old and the old carcass wasn't even exhausted by the long-distance journey!

Bonne route à tous. Une belle italienne avec une poitrine haute la Guguzze (alors qu'une allemande Bèmwé à les seins qui tombent).

no comments but rather need an opinion. I've just bought the beauty, but it's my first motorcycle, so I'm wondering if I've made the right choice to get started. The beast is pretty impressive, but how do you tame it? Thanks for your answer

as promised some news
first 70 km outing to get the hang of it
confirming the gravel in front of the house is tense but all's well. No problem with the gearbox, which I find much smoother than the yam xj6 from the auto school (and yes, for the moment it's my only reference). My big difficulty is maneuvering at slow speed, despite the comfort saddle, I can't get both feet flat (1.70m) and have to shift on the saddle to put at least one foot down. So that's a bit of extra stress. I'm wondering if I've got the right tire size, because I've read that depending on the size, the handling and height of the machine can be quite different
i'm equipped with pirelli demon sport 110/90 x 18 front and 140/80 x17 rear, these are the dimensions recommended by the manufacturer but if I could gain in both height and handling....

continuation of the peregrinations of a motorcycle beginner with a calif as his first mount
Soon the first thousand km, the grip is getting better and I've had to mourn the loss of a good footing, even without the saddle it's not wonderful, when you're in a bad way you're in a bad way. I'm thinking about a good pair of heel lifts and I'm avoiding approaching cars in town.
As for braking, for those who would like to get started with this bike, apart from the high rear brake pedal (like many customs) which takes a bit of getting used to, it proves to be very safe with the front-rear split. The front brake is very, very supple and allows you to "lick the disc" at low speed without locking up.
In terms of roadholding, despite my lack of experience, I'm pleased with the Dunlops, and the bike handles like a bike, with one corner following another without a hitch. My wife is delighted with the passenger comfort.
On the mechanical side, I'm experiencing a slight acceleration at the cardan shaft in third gear when re-accelerating after downshifting, if that inspires anyone. Otherwise, at 51,000km, there's nothing to report.
bonne route à tous

You can use the Stefaz sheet to change the oil in any motorcycle:

I followed his advice myself and managed to do it, even though I'm far from being a mechanic.

it was with drool on my lips that I looked for the same frame all over France, except for one color: gray
i found it in Paris, it had 15,000km (Pfff, even a bit rusty!!!), now it's at 40,000 and I really hope that this time, it's the engine that's going to let me down...from wear and tear and ecstasy
one note spoke of 300,000km possible, with moving parts (pistons, balls, rings, bushes...) changed around 150,000km...we'll see!!!
only complaint: despite a Stone saddle (1 piece) and Bitubo shoes, my passenger still can't stand long rides, snif... Rating : 5/5 Respond to jackal74
