Dakar 2025: the outcome draws closer in Saudi Arabia

The Dakar 2025, about to enter its final phase, is proving to be more uncertain than ever. Drivers of both motorcycles and cars are facing key stages that could redefine the hierarchy of this edition. This was the case today in one of the two categories.

Dakar Motos 2025: Benavides in fine form on Saudi sand

This Tuesday, January 14, over unforgiving terrain, Argentina's Luciano Benavides repeated his brilliant victory of the previous day, winning in stunning fashion on the 9ᵉ stage of the Dakar 2025. With a time of 3 hours, 57 minutes and 30 seconds, the KTM rider beat Adrien Van Beveren (Honda) by 1 minute 54 seconds, a reminder of his current form. This marks his second consecutive stage victory, a performance which completes his list of honours after his triumph on this same stage in January 2023.

Van Beveren, despite the complex navigation and several necessary half-turns, remains solid and confident. "It wasn't a transition stage; I had to make three or four half-turns. We set a great pace, but the navigation was really technical", he commented. The Frenchman's consistency speaks for itself, but will it be enough to win the Grail? We'll probably have to count on a counter-performance from the current leader...

In third place on the stage at 3 minutes 4 seconds, Australian Daniel Sanders (KTM) is more than ever on the royal road to overall victory. The 30-year-old has extended his lead in the overall standings. His pursuer, Spain's Tosha Schareina (Honda), after a heavy crash at the start of the stage, could finish no better than 7ᵉ.

Dakar Autos 2025: the day everything changed?

One day follows another, and not always the same. South Africa's Henk Lategan (Toyota), victorious the day before, suffered a major blow when he relinquished the overall lead. Victim of a major loss of bearings, and not spared by the ups and downs of the race, he conceded over 16 minutes and relinquished his position as leader. Determined to secure the first victory for a local driver in the history of the rally, Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota) is starting to think about the final victory... So much so, in fact, that he uttered the words:"I'm going to win this Dakar" (the Saudi recalled what he had to do to get there, to the microphone of L'Equipe).

Indeed, Al-Rajhi took advantage of Lategan's setbacks to take the overall lead. Lategan looked dejected as he arrived at the finish line: "It's a real mess, a disaster", he declared after missing an important way point, puncturing several times and losing precious time.
