News Galfer incorporates Kashima coating into its Floatech discs.

A Galfer disc ring with Kashima finish.

Spanish braking specialist Galfer has reached a technical milestone by adapting the Japanese Kashima surface treatment to its competition discs. This evolution of Floatech technology, scheduled for 2026, aims to optimize thermal resistance and braking consistency under extreme conditions.

Traditionally reserved for high-end suspension components, Kashima anodization is now making its debut in the Galfer catalog. By applying it to the hubs of its Floatech Racing discs, the Spanish brand has become the first to introduce this process to a braking system. The objective is clear: to increase surface hardness, reduce internal friction, and limit premature wear of the disc's moving parts.

Optimization of patented Floatech technology

The arrival of this finish reinforces the Floatech system, whose architecture is based on rigorous heat transfer management. The design, optimized by digital simulation, retains its major attributes while benefiting from the properties of Kashima treatment:

  • Thermal stability: The system allows for controlled expansion of the braking surface beyond 200, preventing any risk of deformation or jamming.
  • Mechanical precision: The use of washers and preloaded springs ensures constant alignment between the disc and the pads. This technical solution eliminates excessive free play, parasitic noise, and pad recoil.
  • Rigidity/weight ratio: The hub structure has been refined to offer maximum strength while reducing unsprung masses.

From the Moto2 world title to the series

This innovation is the result of close collaboration between the R&D department and cutting-edge competition structures. The system has been validated by the MT Helmets MSI team, which was crowned Moto2 world champion in 2024 with Japanese rider Ai Ogura.

Data collected during Grand Prix races, both on the track and on the dynamometer, confirmed the reliability of the materials under repeated braking cycles. As is customary at Galfer, this technology, proven at the highest level worldwide, is now being transferred to models intended for production.

Availability and compatibility (2026 season)

The new Galfer Floatech Racing Kashima discs will be available from the beginning of 2026. They will cover most of the range of modern sports bikes used in competition or on the track.
