In the off-road trail sector, Continental's TKC 80 tire has earned itself an excellent reputation. So much so that updating it is as tricky as when a motorcycle manufacturer has to modernize an icon (remember the uproar when Ducati updated its Monster or when the VFR switched to V-Tec). Yet this is precisely the challenge facing the new TKC 80².
Continental TKC 80²: The trail icon reinvents itself after 40 years of reign
The German manufacturer has unveiled the TKC 80², the direct successor to its most iconic tire. Designed to meet the demands of modern trail bikes, which are increasingly heavy and powerful, this newcomer promises to redefine the standards of the 50% road/50% off-road segment from spring 2026.

A design optimized for modern adventurers
Continental has completely redesigned its tire to withstand the torque and weight constraints of today's machines. Today's trail bikes start at 15 horsepower and can go up to 173 hp on a Katoche 1390 Super Adventure R. The TKC 80² stands out with a 17% increase in ground contact area, ensuring greater stability in both straight lines and corners, which is crucial for long road trips.
The tread pattern has been thoroughly redesigned:
- Wider blocks and sharp edges for superior grip on loose surfaces.
- Optimized self-cleaning capacity to tackle mud, sand, and gravel.
- Unique asymmetrical profile: on the front tire, the blocks are tilted forward to maximize off-road braking; on the rear, they are oriented to optimize traction during acceleration.

Rubber technology: the balance between flexibility and rigidity
The major innovation lies in the interaction between a new carcass and a new-generation rubber compound. The TKC 80² has adaptive behavior:
Our new compound adapts to the micro-roughness of the asphalt to ensure optimum grip, while maintaining high block stiffness for off-road stability, explains Raphael Michels, product manager at Continental.
This versatility translates into a significant improvement in performance on wet and cold surfaces, historically a weak point for studded tires, without sacrificing durability or puncture protection.
Versatility and availability
The TKC 80² aims for maximum compatibility with the current fleet (BMW, KTM, Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, etc.). At launch, ten sizes will be available:
- Front: 4 sizes (19 to 21 inches).
- Rear: 6 sizes (17 and 18 inches).
For Christoph Ettenhuber, head of the motorcycle department, this tire offers maximum safety, control, and enjoyment on all terrains. Easily identifiable by its new sidewall marking, the TKC 80² will arrive in specialist networks in spring 2026.

Key features of the TKC 80²:
- New 50% road/50% off-road casing, reinforced for improved puncture resistance.
- New rubber compound for improved grip in dry conditions and even more so in wet conditions.
- Wider, offset blocks for better stability at high speeds.
- Better control of wear and noise levels.
- Improved off-road grip and handling
